Hi! As part of Holidays in July/RAOK, I recieved one full skein and a partial skein of beautiful wool.:clap However, I can't seem to find the right pattern to use this wool:( . I was thinking about making a purse using granny squares, but I would like other ideas before I commit to this one. Can you help?:think

You can pretty much use any purse pattern you like, just do it with a much larger hook. My favorite hook for felting is a size L with WW wool. One other thing to note is in crochet, your work will shrink more width wise than length. I usually figure it will shrink about 1/3 in width (but this is definitely not carved in stone... different yarns react differently) Don't bother with any fancy stitches because they won't show anyway. That is, unless it involves changes in color. My fave stitch for felting is half double crochet... it goes fast and leaves enough room for the fabric to full and to shrink.

I'm working on a bag right now with no real pattern. I crocheted a rectangle for about 10 rows, then picked up stitches all around the rectangle and then just keep going round and round with the HDC. I may add other colors in... I may add a flap, or maybe not. I'll just see what the yarn tells me to do, and what the purse wants to be when it grows up. I'm actually using a size K 1/2... it's a lighted hook because a: the yarn is black, and b: I was crocheting outdoors and it was getting dark.

Have fun with it!

Thanks Joan for the tips! It's my first time using wool, so I will definitely use your tips! Thanks!

I just did a quick google search and came up with this (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=free+felted+crochet+purse+pattern&safe=active).

While I do agree that you don't need a specific pattern, there are plenty of felted purse patterns out there so you don't even have to think much! I'm sure you will find something you like!

Just be careful....once you start felting....you will never want to stop!
