Free Yarn for Charity

I've been making baby ghans and lapghans since last summer. Don't know if I'll continue on with that or switch to slippers and hats and mittens. It depends on whether I'm in the mood for a big project or some quickie ones! :D

AMber suffice it to say its a boat load of yarn..you seriously need to get your picture issue on your comp fixed..

I'm sorry to say I heard on another board that Coats and Clark isn't giving any more out this year. So many people making things for charity asked that they reached their "quota" already.

Thanks for telling me. I saw somewhere that Lion Brand gives out yarn for charity purposes I'll try them and Caron.

I have also heard that they are not giving out any more this year and that you may need a letter of acknowledgment from the organization that you donated your items to to show that it was used for that purpose. I have a feeling, and please remember, this is my little humble opinion only, that there may have been some people who have used the yarn for their own personal use as not to pay for it instead of the intended charity. I hope not. It is very charitable for companies to donate their merchandise so that others can be helped.

Sometimes people baffle me:ohdear , why would anyone request yarn for charity and then use it for your own benefit :irked

I wouldn't request any because I'm such a bad procrastinater and I would want to make sure the yarn went to good use.
Allthough I just started making some burial gowns , I haven't delivered any yet.

You know what I need a charity crochet trainer someone who'll ask me if I'm doing it and finishing and so on , someone to crack the whip on me:wink .

why don't some of yall pair up and make a "buddy system" and check in with each other in email/ezboard mail?? Make yourself accountable to someone for your work, even if its just friendly reminders. You could even schedule reminders through a calendar service (such as calendar.yahoo.com) to send you email reminders ect. (sort of like flylady's methods)

(besides me) But i'm not sure what to do, there is a national guard company from here over in iraq, so hats would be great, along with the other needs they have (baby wipes, hand cleansing gel ect)

Great idea Sherry:clap I posted a charity crochet along on the crochet along thread so anyone who has an interest in something like this check it out . Nothing started yet and don't know wether to all donate our items to the same charity or not?

We need some ideas:thinking2 also I thought maybe pick a diff charity every couple of months. I love the ideas about emailing each other to see how we're doing and such.

I sent out a request to Coats and Clark as well. This is what I got today in return:

COATS AND CLARK YARN DONATION POLICY

Each month, we receive hundreds of requests for donations of product from charitable organizations. We respond to each of these requests.

We are very pleased that you enjoy working with our products. We receive many requests from worthwhile organizations and if we have products available we try to make donations. When we have excess inventory of discontinued colors or mill production runs we are able to donate them to charity. Howeever, we are not always able to eet specific requests for colors or types of products. Our normal policy is to send out one donation per year, however due to the v olume of requests we have received this year, we will be unable to provide any further donations until next year.

We do apologize for this inconvenience and ask that you resubmit your request next year.

We ask that all donation requests be sent in writing on the stationary fo the organization for which you are volunteering or the written request should be accompanied by an acknowledgment from the organization of your contribution (thank you letter, pamphlet, newsletter, etc.).
