I was watching Gone With The Wind the other night (gotta love Netflix (http://www.netflix.com)) and when Mammy was in Atlanta walking down the street with Scarlett she was wearing a shawl made of granny squares. It really just looked like an afghan on her shoulders; no shaping to speak of. Also in the dvd commentary the gentleman said that the movie made crocheted hair snoods "all the rage" and that all the ladies were making them in a frenzy (cut to Martha's Poncho last month) to be "in style".
