I was wondering if anyone had an idea of where I can get a pattern for a halloween costume for my 2 year old little boy. I am most interested in animal costumes, but I am open to anything. Thanks.

I don't have patterns, but you can adapt existing patterns for a costume, for example, if you want to do, say, a dog or cat, you could make a hooded cardigan in brown or something, and crochet ears in the proper shape and sew them on the hood, and you could make pants (or take a pair of regular pants) in the same color and crochet a tail (just ch-2, 4 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook, 2 sc into each of the four, and then around and around on those 8 stiches until it's long enough.) and sew that on the pants
Or for something like a dragon, you could make a hooded sweater in green, and make triangles in yellow and sew them along the hood and the back, and make slippers in green, and put claws on them somehow.
I hope this helps...I actually haven't made anything like these ever, I get the ideas from the october issues of Family Fun.

Thanks, that gives me some ideas. I have also thought about making him an animal hat, but I like the idea of the hoodie.

Well after my hubby said I should make my son's Halloween costume, I made mention that I might just crochet him something and he kindof laughed at me. I think he is a little leary of it. I haven't decided what I am going to do yet, since I am really trying to focus on getting Christmas presents done, before the new baby comes. I am due in the middle of October and I would like to get most of my projects done before then if possible. Including a Halloween costume if I ever decide on something. Oh well, we will see what happens.

I made most of my kids costumes when they were young - but I mostly adapted clothing they could use later and sewed them. Like a black turtleneck long sleeve shirt with black pants, then added a cat hood with ears that I sewed from a pattern - or the same shirt and pants, but with 2 extra stuffed arms sewn on each side for a spider. You could take a sweatshirt hoodie and sew on a ridge, then tack felt spots on the hood and matching pants for a dinosaur. Googley eyeballs on stalks, a bright colored hoodie and pants for a monster. All kinds of quick and easy things you can do with clothing that they can wear later too..... Pretty flannel nightgowns for girls with lots of long netting streamers flowing from the top of a cone princess hat (don't forget the royal scepter!)

I crocheted my son a Thomas the tank costume. It was my own creation. I used blue to make the front and the back rectangles, and connected them at the shoulder. I used gray and red at the bottom edges. Then I crocheted a gray round face and sewed on the details. And added black to the top and bottom and sewed it onto the front. I made a hat out of felt attached to a cap he had. I couldn't find a conductor's hat at the time. My son loved this costume. It was easy on and off and soft.

If you go to the Lion Brand website, they have several really cute costumes to crochet for kids!

Unfortunately I couldn't see the pic, but that sounds really neat. Do you by chance have a pattern that you wrote down or any other way I could see the pic. I was thinking about buying him a brown or black sweat suit and crochet him a hat with dog ears and then crochet him a dog tail and attach it to the pants. I have some fluffy brown yarn that might work. I will have to work up a hat and see how it turns out. I have a feeling I will be making something up off the top of my head.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions so far. They are helping with my creative juices.:D

this one would work up into a cute doggy with floppy ears.. you'd just have to use different colors.

Thanks I actually have that pattern on paper, but I didn't think about making it into a dog hat. That actually might work. I also saw a bevs bear beanie that was interesting. I need to work something up with the yarn I have and see how it looks.
