I made a baby cardigan for a newborn boy using Plymouth Wildflower DK and now I am looking for a pattern for booties and a hat for a boy using dk weight yarn. I would like the booties to be the kind where you do the sole in an oval shape and then do the sides in the round. I looked on CPC, but couldn't find anything for dk yarn....:no

Isn't Dk yarn the same as lightweight worsted? Maybe you weould be able to find something in light worsted??

I don't know - is DK the same as light worsted, or the same as 4 ply, or the same as baby?

DK is the same as light worsted, here's a site that spells it out:
http://www.yarnstandards.com/weight.html
Regular worsted varies so much; bargain yarns like Red Heart Super Saver or Caron 1 pounder are a lot thicker/stiffer than, say, Caron Simply soft or Peaches 'n Cream, but it's all size 4. You might be able to use a pattern written for regular worsted weight (if the designer didn't use RHSS), but the DK fabric might be 'looser' than it should be. Might be OK for the hat, dunno about the slippers. Try making a gauge swatch.

I made the sweater using a Sirdar pattern book, but the booties in it are all for girls (mary janes, etc.). I guess I try to adapt one of those patterns.....I've never crocheted baby items before so I am not sure of the sizing.

In the good old days ~ not too long ago ~ we basically had baby, sport weight, worsted weight, and bulky. It was a lot easier to keep track of what was what. We were told to consider DK (double knit) to be worsted weight.
Now we have in-between sizes like baby sport and light worsted weight. So, today DK is supposed to be closer to a light worsted weight. Caron Simply Soft is supposed to be light worsted weight.
I hope this helps.

Thank you all for your help! I've picked up several layette crochet booklets using sport weight and baby weight yarn and I'm going to try to adapt the Sirdar bootie pattern.

Actually, I'm working on a project with Caron Simply Soft and it's labeled as #4, worsted weight. But, I know what you mean about the good old days - I consider Caron SS to be like the WW from the good old days, and RHSS to be thicker and stiffer, halfway between good old WW and rug yarn. Maybe it should be marked size 4 1/2 ;)
