My daughter's friend, who lives in Paris is coming for a visit to Maryland

I want to ask her to bring some French crochet magazines because they are done in charts not just text directions. I am interested in doilies and tablecloths not clothes. I can give her that much information but she is not a crocheter....

Can anyone give me the name (names) of some magazines she could find for me.

If anyone can give the name of a store or location that would be nice too. She has only lived in Paris for 2 years.

Thank you

I buy some of the same magazines in Polish versions. I don't know the French names, but all of them are published under similar labels. I buy "Sabrina" and "Diana" all the time--great thread patterns. You can usually find those labels in the upper left-hand corner, and the middle part is reserved for the individual language title (mine say "Robotki" or "handiwork"). I suggest checking the periodical section of any major bookstore chain--they should be located close to the "women's interest" magazines--cookings, motherhood, fashion, etc...

Sorry I can't be more help than that, but I hope she finds you some lovely magazines!

thank you

When yoou say check the "periodical section of any major bookstore" you did mean in Paris - right

The irony is that although I live in Baltimore I have yet to find a bookstore, major or not that has more than 2 crochet magazines! And no thread magazines although I see that Crochet is beginning to have chart patterns.

That's right. I can't say that I KNOW they will be there, but they are published and sold, and it's a good place to start the search. Even smaller branches of major chains carry crochet magazines here in Poland--along with knitting, cross-stitch, sewing, and embroidery. The magazines are inexpensively printed, and I'm just kind of assuming that the situation would be the same in other European countries. Italy also has some nice crochet (and tatting!) magazines--I've seen them in one store here--but they are much higher priced because they are imported, and printed on higher-quality paper.

"Crochet Monthly" is written in English but is published in France. It has charts and limited written directions!
