:think I was wondering if anyone had any tips or knew of a website that could help me adjust sizes on a pattern. For example I want to take some patterns that fit my daughter (who is 6) so that her doll can have a matching outfit. (It is an 18' Our Generation doll from Target). I have tried using a smaller hook as well as different yarn but it doesn't work out exactly right for me. I really want to be able to design my own patterns and I think that learning this could help me later.

Do you sew? Back in the dark ages I used to sew outfits for my dolls. I would take measurements, make a paper pattern, then cut and sew. (too bad you can't frog fabric, but it was educational). I didn't know how to crochet back then, but now I do the same for sweaters I make for myself; I measure them every few inches against a garment that fits me.

I usually go to a D-E hook and sport yarn and do the same basic pattern

If you have a fabric pattern for the doll clothing, just use those measurements for your gauge in crocheting. Am I making sense?
