View Full Version : Created my own crochet journal!

I decided to create my own journal pages for crochet and knit projects that I can print out whenever I want. I created the original document in Word, then converted it to pdf format. The design and format are my original creations, although I used the graphics included with my Word program's online access. It prints out on half-size paper (5.5 wide by 8.5 tall).
I made a cover sheet that can be personalized by writing in your name. The left side of each two-page spread has a place for including a photo (up to 4x6) and a yarn swatch. The right side has information for recording the project name, pattern, yarn, needles, gauge, notes, and other information.
If you'd like to check out what the pages look like, just click on my blog button in my signature to see them. The blog also has a link to where you can download the pdf file, or you can download it here:
Crochet and Knit Journal (http://www.knology.net/amyshelton/crochetknitjournal.pdf).
Enjoy! Oh, you're also welcome to email the document to any friends who might be interested.

Your journal looks great, but I couldn't get the link to the download to work. You did a fantastic job on designing the journal. :cheer2

Looks so pretty though!!! Purple, my favorite :)

Sorry, everyone, I had a typo in the name of the file in my original post. I corrected it, and it should work now.

Looks nice!
I'm still holding out for one. I don't want to use my ink on printing. LOL :rollin

Hmm. I see the awesome picture on the front page. and 22 pages that follow. Unfortunately there is no text, only warbled boxes and lines in place of where I think there may be text. :shrug Maybe it's just my computer.
I'd like to print a copy out though.

I've got a stash of cardstock that I'm condering printing this out on. What a great idea! :)

Bec, I'm not sure what's going on. When I open my pdf file, all the text is there, and everything appears just fine. Do you have the most current version of Acrobat Reader? Maybe that would help. Maybe something got corrupted when you downloaded it from my server.
I just pulled up the file on my server with my browser, and it uses Acrobat Reader 6.0, and it shows up without any problems.
If anybody else has problems, let me know, and I'll try to get it fixed for you.

Yeah, that's the bad thing about it! INK!
If anybody's interested in a version without the purple background that they could print on colored cardstock, let me know. I should be able to create that version without too much trouble. Then you wouldn't have to use as much ink.

I love it, but I know myself--it would go the way of the baby books--sitting there empty, despite my best intentions. If only I could get someone to fill it out for me, lol! Great job though!

This is a great idea. Thanks so much for sharing with us. Since the mid 80's I've tried to keep a li'l diary of my projects, but it's all written on some blank pages in the back of an old knitting instruction book. This is so much more organized and easy to use.
Thanks again!!!

Is there a way you can make it so we can type right on it? Like keeping it a word doc or something?

Amy,
Great Job :cheer:clap
The journal is awesome. It's lovely. I've printed a copy and can't wait to fill out what I've been keeping in a notebook, on scrap paper pieces, etc.
Thanks for sharing. :hug

Did I miss it, or did you redo it without the colored background?

Has anyone done this as a word doc so we can type right on form? Let's make this a challenge and see what people come up with!

Sorry, ladies, I've been meaning to get around to this, and just hadn't yet.
Here is a link to the version (without as many duplicate pages) without the white background in pdf format:
http://www.knology.net/amyshelton/knitcrochetjournalwhite.pdf
Here is a link to that document in a Word format:
http://www.knology.net/amyshelton/knitcrochetjournalwhite.doc
Hope that helps!!

If you are able to open and view the pdf in the webpage than there should be a button just above the page display with a disk symbol, click on this and it should ask you where you would like to save your file. No need to go anywhere to download it. There is also a printer icon that should send the file directly to your printer.
Sorry if I'm butting in where I don't belong and no one wants to know this, but I just read some posts of people that were having some problems and thought I would share some of my knowledge from a printer's perspective.
By the way, I love the journal. I'll have to think about keeping one, though I haven't really done all that many projects yet. But I'll probably be kicking myself 1-2 yrs down the road that I never wrote down what I did for such and such.

Tandy, the problem I was having is I wanted to be able to add my info instead of handwriting it on the printed form. That's why I wanted a word.doc. If I were you, I would think about doing one too. I only have two items in so far, but it will help me remember who I made what for. I have a bad memory!

I know this is a very old thread. I deliberately searched for it. I had printed off this journal when Amy first posted it, and I can't find any of my blank pages to use. I was wondering if Amy is still here, and if you are, would you be able to post the files again? I would really be very grateful if you could.
Thanks in advance!

I just discovered this thread. I'd love to have this, too. Maybe I could keep track of what I'm doing with a journal. I bought a notebook the other day that would be perfect for keeping this in. It's one of those organization notebooks that have daily and monthly calendars to fill in. It even has handles on it.

Amy is very much still here, she's now admin. Give her time. I'm sure as soon as she sees this, she'll let you know if it's still available and/or repost it.

Wow surprised Amy isn't following up on this. I mean she follows up real fast on when people want to use or copy patterns w/o the others permission.
So why can't she re-post this original post for people to view that keep getting
the error.
Come on Amy S. try to re-post it, so us others can get ideas.

I'm in the midst of major computer problems right now, and I'm not sure I can access this old document until they're fixed.
I'll poke around and see if I can find an old backup CD or something where I might be able to get to the file. I'll let you know what I'm able to find out. :)
