It's time to take a stand!
I know we all have them lurking in our closets, causing us guilt and taking up valuable stash space.

Yes...the dreaded Un-Finished Objects :eek

Now, I'm not talking about when we jump between a few different projects at the same time, or temporarily set one aside to do something else that has a deadline. No, I'm talking about the poor, forgotten projects languishing away at the bottom of a plastic tote, or worse, Walmart bag. The ones you can't even remember what size hook you were using.

Ladies (and gents!) we can win the war against these insidious tangles of yarn. You must be willing to take the first stitch though. Pick a UFO and make a commitment. There was a reason you started it, something about that pattern and yarn spoke to you. Love it enough to complete it. If it no longer calls to your heart, set the yarn free. Yup, that's right. Rip it out and find a better use for the yarn.

Our motto "Finish it or Frog it!!!!!!" :2frog

I have several shawls I started and then puttered out on. My first UFO pledge will be to finish the blue homespun shawl I was going to give my mom for Christmas :blush I should be able to finish it by Mother's Day

:rofl Now this is a great crochetalong (not that the others aren't)! I, of course, have several UFOs just stashed away somewhere. The worst one is a black boa I was making with LBs Fun Fur. That insideous black fur is tangled amongst so many yarns and the boa was almost done! I had to put it down because the black was killing my eyes. But to make it a FO, I first have to detangle it. :rofl It'll be a days worth of work just to untangle something that I should have finished within a half hour of starting. :eek

Count me in although for the next week or so I'll be busy with family coming in. But then I'll be free for a couple of months.

I was looking for some yarn to start some new projects this weekend and just staring at my UFOs wondering what to do with them. I think I have 6 afghans and a sweater that I started long long ago and never finished. The sad thing is, not only do I not remember the size hook I was using, but I can't even remember the pattern I was using for about half of them! I even sat down and went through ALL my patterns to try to figure it out with no luck! Guess it's time to sit myself down and frog them. A yarn winder would be really nice right now to help deal with the tangles I just know are coming when I finally find the right project to complete with that yarn! Count me in on this!

Great idea! I so need this CAL. It needs a button though! Oh the possiblities..... I don't have the capability to make cool buttons, but I am sure someone could. Yeah! I will be so happy to get rid of my half finished projects (so would my husband, haha).

I guess this means I better start digging in the bottom of my closet. And to think we only moved in 2 months ago :eek I :remember seeing some long forgotten projects as I packed up for the move. I'd lost the pattern, now I bought the pattern book but don't even think the yarn is still around, so may end up frogging that one anyway. But I'm sure there are a dozen or so, from baby stuff to rug for the racing fan in my house.

Oh, this is a fabulous idea. Just the kick in the pants that I needed. I started making a blanket for my Dad, and it's just so huge that I got overwhelmed! Blankets take me FOREVER. . . But now I'm inspired. I pledge to work on it every day, even if it's just one row a day, that's progress, right?? Great idea, thanks Holly! And the little UFO button is perfect!

Count me in! As soon as my shoulder is okayed for crocheting I've got a baby sweater and blanket that I have GOT to finish... and they're just kinda layin there. Fortunately I think I used the same size hook as the pattern called for... Even in my stack of WIPs, they somehow crawled to the bottom... probably in the infamous Walmart bag even... :lol

Okay, I'll be honest, the button did me in! lol

Love the button Rebecca!!!!!
I really need to start a blog so I can use it :lol

Raquel, yup, even one row a day is a row in the right direction! :hook

And as an addendum, for the hopelessly snarled project, we need to give ourselves permission to cut it off and THROW IT OUT!!! If it's less than $5 of yarn, it's not worth spending 8 hours to salvage it (unless you enjoy that type of thing!) If you really can't stand the thought of tossing it, the begining of scarves, afghan squares etc make fabulous dust cloths :cheer (hey, she *could* be dusting with those pom poms)

oh, I'm in.......I'm scared........:lurk ....and:sweat ...but yea, I need this. Count me. Gonna get the button up on my blog...and go hunting for them.....*shudder*..

Want to know the worst one? When I first started crocheting I was scared of "patterns" but I wanted an afghan. Know what I did? I started one of just rows and rows of DC's. Now, maybe that wouldn't have been to bad. However, I ended up with this huge, long thing that seemed never ending. It was huge, heavy, but too long and not wide enough to be an afghan.....I gave up. It is all bunched up, shoved in a kitchen garbage bag with the skein of yarn still attatched to it...and probably the hook too. I was so disgusted with it I just shoved it all in and tied it up.....Would be some nice stash enhancement to frog it.....oh my...I am scared. :eek

LOL.....What a great idea Holly.

I'm in.....The button made my mind up! :clap I don't have a lot of UFOs...but this should give me the :kickto get them finished) Especially since one was the first project I started (a black and red wool scarf)! I really should at some point either finish it :knit , or :frog it and start over since it probably is really bad.....just need to find it first! :think

Woven N Spun: You could still use the button, and pledge not to have any UFOs! ;)

Great button, and great crochetalong idea! I'll take this pledge. Hmmm... I have a lot of UFOs... I think I'll pledge to finish (or make decent progress on) two UFOs before starting any new project. That way I can still start new projects. ;) (I've got a couple of afghans that will take me a while.)

You mean that I should really finish that **** 63 square blanket???? I don't want too. Too many other projects to start. But maybe, just maybe I could get my dining room table cleaned off. Boy, would that ever make my husband happy. So, I guess I will start by cleaning my craft room and getting organized. How's that?? Will that work??

i almost used that ufo clip art! but how did you get it to flash ------ ooooooooooooooooo Secret! :devil Tee hee, just kidding! I used Adobe ImageReady, which came with Photoshop when I bought it. It lets you work with animated GIFs. It's the only software I have that can do that... I think. :think :lol BTW, I almost used the same clipart you used, too! :lol

I actually messed with the animation a bunch, because they had the UFO moving around. Also the flashing was way too fast :loco so I slowed it down.

i need to go back and outline the other 2.I do like borders! They give such nice definition! :tup

Okay, I take the pledge, but how do I decide which button to use? My main UFO at the moment is a shawl which seemed like a good idea at the time, but I gave up and buried it under a bunch of stuff. It has to be frogged, and it's a mix of yarns that aren't going to give up easily.

You know what sucks? It's worse than not remembering the hook size, worse than not remembering the pattern...when you don't remember what the **** you were making!!! I almost never use a pattern for things I make (I think it's the teen rebel in me) and sometimes I'll pull out a UFO from my crochet box and just think "What the **** was thing going to be??" My family is no help either. "Oh that's that abstract thing you were making." :think Gee thanks, mom.

I am so in. *grabs all the buttons and runs*

In my world, when I really stop working on it. As in, it sits around, started but unfinished, in a box/basket/whatever for weeks and weeks on end and I don't even THINK about it. Heh.

I have a baby ripple afghan I started for the ripple-along and it is just sitting in the bottom of one of my baskets, untouched, unfinished, unthought of since ... mid-January? It's a UFO, not a WIP (though I think I have WIPs that are older than it but get a few rows in here and there).

OMG, I am definitely in on this one ... I cleaned out our bedroom this weekend (hence, also my stash) and found a few, even tossed two, one that was too snarled to contemplate and another that was just a chain and a couple of rows and I haven't a clue what it was intended to be. Actually started working on one of my UFO's the end of last week, so this is good timing!

Now to decide which button to use. The froggin one just cracks me up, lol.

Donna, you don't have to confess to all your UFO's all at once :faint
Take it one neglected project at a time:hook

When does a WIP become a UFO???? It's hard to assign a specific amount of time, but I we all know one when we see one. When you accidentally come across it, sigh, and think "I should really do something with that....." but don't :D

I have 2 UFO's. One is a shawl that I can't even remeber what the stitch is and how to do it. The other is a blanket I made and never finished. I can't really finish it either because I can't buy the same yarn here in Australia but it's way to big to frog. It could cover a King size bed (over 80 hours of work on it so far)!! I think I'll have to commit to doing something about finishing it the best way I can so it doesn't sit in a bag for the rest of my/it's life.

What do you have left to do on the blanket? If you just need yarn for a border, maybe you could frog it a bit to make it slightly smaller, and use the yarn from that? Or get a complementary colour. ;)

I'm in... I only have one UFO, unless you count the 63 squares CAL with the missing squares... so I don't count it, since I can't find it. Besides, the yarn that was supposed to be the CAL, disappeared into kitty blankets for the shelter. I recently tossed a couple afghan UFO's.... I spent hours frogging the yarn & finally decided to toss it. I'd rather spend my time recycling wool sweaters than recyling acyrlic that I don't use other than for animal blankets anyway.

BecccaRoo, is that the lacy shawl like you made for Cosette? I can remind you how to do it. As for the monster blankie, I'm sure we can stock you up when you come home, or I can mail the yarn to you! You guys should see this monster blankie--it's enormous but done in I think sportweight yarn, so it takes forever to get anywhere on it! Poor girl gave herself carpal tunnel working on this thing! :worried
But it's beautiful. You should put up a pic, sis. Love you!:manyheart

OK...so ya know I HAD to do this. I HAD to cut skeins of yarn and throw the UFOs away. Don't ask me what they were 'supposed' to be because they were so tangled I have no idea. I know a couple of them were yarn w/fur. I think there were at least 4 UFOs I had to trash. There was just no detangling them. But on a positive note, they weren't UFOs that I've been posting on my Wed WIPs. So they don't count! :sofunny

I think I know what I'm going to commit to as soon as I finish my pillowghan and the baby ensemble.

I started a MAM in an arrowhead pattern and stopped after the first strip. I still have the strip and it's done in RH SS in black and light berry so I should be able to get the yarn to finish it. I really like that pattern too and that's the only UFO that I seem to want to finish.

My UFO update....I frogged it! :frog So my scarf UFO now consists of a rolled ball of wool waiting to be reworked back into a scarf - I am sticking with the original idea, just making it slightly skinnier and probably a bit longer than originally planned! I've spent part of today moving boxes and stuff from the living room and my bedroom into my son's old room, I had to cut some yarn that had got tangled and dropped out of some boxes just to be able to move the boxes. I still haven't moved them all out of the bedroom but as soon as I get them all moved I'll be going through them and separating them into Finishables and Froggers.

I'm probably going to have a bigger stash of frogged stuff than I will new yarn :blush

I have a few UFO's haunting my stash, so I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and join this CAL. Besides, if I frog more than I finish, I won't NEED to buy yarn next month, so I'll be helping myself with the Stash Busters! :D

I have a sweater I *almost* finished last fall while I was pregnant with my daughter, but it was HUGE on me and I was 7-8 months along! Before anyone says anything about gauge, I was dead on, but it seems that this pattern was written in VERY big sizes...:eek

Anyway, I got as far as edging the neck and sleeves and just couldn't bring myself to edge the bottom. Not only can I not wear it, but I don't know anyone big enough to fit this thing properly!! So, my wine-colored Light N Lofty sweater has now become my first UFO to frog.

Now, if I just had the time to figure out where those darn seams are.... :think

I think it's going to be the yellow & white little star afghan that is around here somewhere.

I so need to do this!! I have 3 totes and 2 huge walmart bags filled with UFO's...mostly knit projects...my niece's scarf, one slipper for my son, dishcloths, a sweater I started when my son was 2 sizes smaller, knitted afghan, pet blanket. The only 2 crochet UFO's are 2 blankets for my bf...one is a huge granny square that I'm just going to frog because I can use the yarn to work on his other blanket. Apparently I got bored with the big square, cut the yarn and started the other. What was I thinking??!! I'm going to frog all the knit projects except the slippers...I need to finish those...poor kid was so excited about them! They match my bf's and he wanted to be "twins".

We won't even count UFO's here.... things that need to be finished before I move and gotten rid of, used, or sent somewhere.

The neon afghan, a lap warmer for a child, a couple baby afghans, the ripple afghan, the rainbow child's afghan,..... a pair of socks that most likely will be frogged since Ilost the yarn to finish them!!!:eek ..... several other little ones....

These got abandoned a while ago. Sometimes I wonder if there's any that will end up being frogged for lack of interest, yarn, etc.

Think I'll put the finish or frog button down... when I get around to putting up blog buttons that is!!

I think it should be against the CAL rules to post pictures of projects. Now I want the pattern to that shawl and I want to make one. :blush How can I make progress on my UFO's if folks are tempting me with other things! LOL! :lol

About the only progress I've made is adding a page to my blog that shows all my UFO's and what I decided to do with them all. :devil

OK, I have made some progress (*of the two steps forward, one step back variety*):

Several rows done on my sunshine and lace afghan
Decided to frog my son's socks (heck they probably are the wrong size now anyways). His feet are too CHUBBY for crochet socks, the little bugger.

Steps backward:
I keep making those butterfly hair things and bookmarks....

Oh man is this me or what? :eek I have so many UFO in different stages of completion. A couple I do not know what hook I used, one I have lost the pattern and the yarn I was using has been discontinued years before! :(

Dh is constantly bugging me to finish the projects I told him would be for us. First on my list is that darn afghan I was making for us and second would be the baby blanket that was supposed to be for one of my nephew's first Christmas. Let's see.....he will be three in September....I guess now would be the time to finish it right? LOL!

Well, I feel more like this is backwards progress, but it needs to be done. Tonight I frogged half a sock so that I can adjust the ankle. That sock did *not* want to frog, I tell you. (And I still have three more to frog! Aack!) These are socks for someone else (thus I couldn't check them as I went) that need adjusting, and I had been avoiding ripping them out. I'm feeling better now that I've started. ;)

Okay people...I found something where I was using four yarns crocheted together as one. Yeah, four. I have NO idea what it was, what it was going to be or what hook I used. It got frogged. Also, I found a scarf I started in 2000. It's lumpy and a bit mishappen so I'll frog that tonight and use the yarn for something else.

I just got 35 skeins of yarn in the mail though. **** that eBay!! I made a new pledge to myself though. If I won't finish it, I won't start it.

I hope it sticks.

:blush :blush :eek ME!! ME!!! I fit that description- the one of people rummaging thru closets (actually a room in this case) saying why was I making that, or what was that.

I frogged a sock that'll never have a mate- yarn went into a magic ball. Finishing the Neon Afghan. Frogged the starting of an afghan that only had a tiny bit done. Yarn went into above said magic ball too for kitty snuggle. Good project for bits of yarn that are too small to do anything else with! Make a "magic ball" (that is, for newbies, a ball of many colors made of small balls of yarn all wound and tied together). The animals don't really care what color something is and sometimes it actually turns out to be really pretty.

I've got a couple of WIM's but fighting the urge to start them!!

Ok. I have this afghan I was working on and I decided to frog it and use bits of it for woolies and snuggles. I had finished a skein when I last put it down and I was thinking that instead of frogging, I'd just start working from that end so as one project came unraveled, another new one would grow.

Is that still frogging?

I frogged my impossible shawl, but I doubt I'll get back to it very soon. Too many other projects waiting, and I keep starting new ones. I think I'm going to drop out of this crochet along because having half a dozen or so WIPs is just my way of working. I'm going to concentrate on getting my stash down to a manageable level. The multiple WIP's is not the issue. It is things that haven't been worked on in a very long time. You can do it. Just keep up the good work. We would not fit in if we didn't have many things going at one time. This morning my hubby said "Everytime I see you, you are working on something different. Do you ever finish anything?" Of course, :blush I also have to confess that I have been ordering sale yarn (1.27) from Herschnerrs. And it's sock yarn (something I can't even find on my side of the world, especially not for 1.27) But after all, it's not May yet. :lol :lol

I have two squares for an exchange all done except for weaving in the ends. Same with one afghan. I have another afghan that I have maybe 6 more rows to do and it will be done (except for weaving in those stupid ends) Then there is my modified version of the 63 square afghan. all the squares are finished, I just have to put them together and weave in those obnoxious ends.

I do, however, want to buy some material. I'm do not sew, per sey. I do own a sewing machine but my in-laws borrowed it and who knows when I'll ever get it back. But my question is, I would like to buy a special material to line a crocheted project that I am thinking of making for someone. Just one item. Would this be considered buying stash? The project is current and to make & finish it, I would need the lining. So???? :think I will gladly abide by your decisions. :ghug

I think I was the first one to join without telling anybody, because last year almost everybody in my family got a UFO for christmas,Starting with my oldest niece, earlier in the year she had asked me for a poncho I started it, but I did another project. I left it in the bag that I had the other yarn, later I started a beanie and then I took a break and forgot them. At christmas I didn't have to much money to buy presents, then I remember I still had those projects so I decided to finished them. With the poncho I was half way done so I just added fringe to it and I made her a hat to go with the poncho and another one because I felt so guilty because I forgot about it.I also finished the beanie

I'm so bad. I know I said once I was allowed to crochet again I'd finish the baby sweater at least... but instead I've started a sweater for me, a secret project for my secret pal, a raok, and a baby romper. I started the halcyon shawl too, but I actually finished that one! :lol

I started the sweater for me though because I needed to do something to help cheer myself up. Plus it's FREEZING at work. The management has strange ideas concerning the AC and the break room.

The secret project takes priority, then the romper because it's a 0-3 months size, and the sweater is 6-9 I believe. Besides, even in Germany baby won't need the sweater in July! *knock on wood - no freak blizzards please* Mind you, all I have to do on the sweater is the rest of one side and the sleeves. Which will take much less time than the back of MY sweater which I have almost done. I know I'm little bitty, but even I require a lot more stitches to wrap me up than a 6 month old does... lol

After those two and the raok that I really need to get done and in the mail (it'll only take 2 or 3 days tops) and the couple of little secret pal things that I need to do I'll finish the sweater. Honest! Maybe I need more than just 10 lashes... oh dear... :blush

Everyone is doing great!!!!

I feel bad because I've been neglecting my own thread :blush

I have finished the Little Star UFO, no pictures because I finished it 5 min before I had to get in the car to give it to the intended recipient. You all know what it looks like anyway :D I did it in yellow and white stripes of Bernat Baby Sparkle.

I don't have an official UFO/WIP count, seems like every time I dig into my stash, I find something else lurking in there. I've been steadily working along on 2 existing WIPs (they weren't ignored long enough to call them UFO's) They are both baby blankets, one is using the friendship jewel squares and the other is a back & forth shell pattern I can't remember the name of. The motif one is my "need to concentrate" project, the back & forth is my "traveling" project. It's just *killing* me to not start something new :lol but I'm being good. I have been doing a lot of spinning lately, so that is giving me my new project "fix"

All UFOs disappeared for a few days after I frogged my winter scarf and returned the wool into the stash, but I have a little shawl UFO that is trying to fly into my UFO Free Air Space....I have become a bit bummed out with the pattern since I crochet too tightly and it does not look like I wanted it to - and this is with me going up 2 hook sizes! I've now hit the stage where I avoid all eye contact with it in hopes that it will either finish itself or frog itself back onto the cone....sigh

I've still got a couple floating around...got my sister's rug and my pattern proto-type finished, but haven't really done too much in the way of clearing out UFOs b/c I've been busy with school and comfortghan squares.

I've actually got a couple of patterns I'm working on that I've put on the back burner for now...and then there's the bookmark I started about a week ago that's just sitting in the drawer waiting....

PSSSSTTTTTTT.... Is it too late to jump in???? Surely not, I mean there will always be UFOs somewhere, right?

I have one baby blanket to complete, a childs poncho, a twin size afghan, squares....and I am sure there is more hidden in the depths of the nightmare before opening closet!

BTW thats just my crochets projects..not sewing and or refab/recon projects!:eek

Ack! I have a lot of UFOs to finish...a star afghan I started for my son, a pink baby blanket for a friend, a Homespun afghan for my sister, and there's some mysterious white mass of yarn that looks vaguely like the beginnings of a shawl, but I can't tell what pattern I was using, or even what size hook. Looks like THAT one is heading straight to the frogger!

This is such a great idea. Why start something new when I've got all of these fantastic things to finish? (If only I could remember that next time I want to start a new project...)

I've finally finished all my secret projects except for one, and I have the yarn to do it so it should go pretty fast! There's one more too, but it's still a WIM cause I can't get the yarn til Mom comes home.

Just a few more things that I need to finish, and then I can get to work on my UFOs... I guess this means I need to find the book that that darn sweater is in so I can finally finish it! :eek I think I need to find a different pattern to use all that mango/variegated yarn I got for the romper... something tells me that otherwise, Mitch will never get to wear it! lol

I just pulled a 35 gallon tote from my room that's filled with UFOs and tangled yarn. I'll be untangling, frogging and setting things aside that I'll want to finish and it'll probably take me awhile.

Good for you!! :yay

I detangled and frogged for about 3 hours last night and barely made a dent in the big tote.

I have a small tote full of wound center pull balls of yarn now, most of them tiny but I need quite a bit for my dummy and I guess I could always get into scrumbles with what's left :wink

At least I have plenty of toilet paper rolls just in case the one I'm using wears out before I'm done. That was the best tip I ever read was to use one of those to roll your yarn into center pull balls, my yarn looks so much neater now than when I just rolled into balls that would roll everywhere when I tried to use them.

I'm slowly but surely making my way through that tote, looks like most of the UFOs in there will get frogged, I can't even tell what most of the things I frogged were going to be. I did find a dishtowel I'd made a long time ago in there so now it can go to my kitchen.

I'll keep everyone updated and might take pictures when I'm done, no way am I taking before, that's too embarrassing :blush just imagine a 35 gallon tote filled with nothing but mostly tangled leftover yarn.

Plus, I've been trying *sooo* hard not to start anything new... I've got a bunch of big projects (like sweaters) that I'm dying to start, but won't let myself until I finish several of my large WIPs. Anyone know what I can make from coffee colored acrylic? That's the poncho that looks like a rug with wide cream stripes. :D All it needed was two panels joined but I was unhappy with it plus it was way too big. Too bad it doesn't match my decor or I would use it as 2 rugs! ;)

Sure, this pledge is ongoing, just like all the CALs.

I think I've got the tangle more than half untangled now, I've found stuff in there I didn't know I had, As soon as I get this shawl and tie done I'm going to finish my dummy then have some fun with scrumbles-while finishing the arrowhead MAM, of course, I've actually found some yarn that I can continue it with and I should be able to get some more since it's RHSS in black and lt country rose, I think is the other color.

I've made a huge dent in the tangled yarn and found nearly a pound of RH in country blue-I have a 7 oz, a 3 oz and a 4½ oz cake of the stuff. Now I need to figure out what to do with it after I finish the rose afghan and send it off.

I have been frogging things too, if I wasn't sure what it was supposed to be or I couldn't get enough yarn to finish what it was supposed to be or I just didn't want to finish it, it got frogged. The 3 oz cake of country blue is a frogged something, I think it was going to be a small throw, I had started something in reversible shells but I couldn't remember what size hook I had been using.

At least I'm trying to stick to the pledge and when I'm done I'll have lots of little cakes of yarn to practice scrumbling with after I get my dummy made.

I started listing my WIPs on my blog last night, and the list is so far out of control I'm not sure what to do with it.

:eek 5 bookmarks for the Bookmark Swap
:eek my "I don't wanna work on nothin" shrug
:eek Mitch's pink terry bath blankie
:eek final bits on Secret Pal stuff
:eek The blue/white blankie I started the other night mistakenly thinking it would get me to the point where I could fall asleep
:eek The other half of T is for Tim, which in all honesty I started 4 times, but had to frog out 4 times too because I couldn't get it right
:eek The first frog for Matty for his birthday present

And then we have the UFOs...

Let's suffice it to say the number has grown by one, since I've pretty much accepted the fact that I will NEVER finish Mitch's Mango/High Energy Variegated Romper. The whole 'pants' section is popcorn, and I... HATE... POPCORN! Oh yeah, brilliant pattern choice. So I need to find another pattern and frog it all out.

I already have my DPNs, I want to learn how to knit socks because my poor feet don't like the crocheted ones so much - the heavier yarn is great, but the sock yarn just doesn't cut it, and I have sock yarn I want to use!

I traded with my aunt, 4 balls of mohair for 2 balls of true, elasticy sock yarn. I made one sock, and decided I will save the rest for when I can knit them, because otherwise I know I'll never wear them.

Of course, I have bony feet too, so maybe that's part of it. :lol

And I'm a definite sufferer of SSS... Second Sock Syndrome. I told my friend I'd make her 2 pairs, and let her pick the yarn for one. That was in January or February. I just found the one pair a couple of days ago, and still need to put the heel in. The second pair has been sitting there mocking me for months, I need to do the cuff and the heel and that's it. I told her I found her socks and she laughed and said she'd been wondering if I was still doing them. Must... get them out in time for Winter (the one pair's wool-ease, and they're both warm)

I think I've got all my WIPs listed in my blog and was surprised at the list. I'm definitely going to be working on those before I get to the WIMs. After I finish a few then I'll pick from the WIMs so I guess this will definitely be an ongoing CAL for awhile :wink

I've found 2 UFOs in that tote that I think I'll finish, The arrowhead you know about, I just hope I'll be able to find the colors I need, I really like that pattern.

The other one is a small thing I started with scraps in the step pattern, only done a little different, it starts in the middle and works out. This one is a square and I'm going to try to do it in nothing but scraps (how's that for scrap busting?) and call it Around the World in 80 Scraps :lol 'cause I probably have 80 different scraps to put in it. Well I think I can join this as well! This weekend I finished piecing together a granny square blanket made from squares I received in a swap. I'm still working on weaving in the many ends and trying to decide whether I want to put a border on it or not. It is HUGE already (25 12'' squares and I croceted a dc crochet border on each square before joining).

Other things to finish: A lb waterfall throw that's been unfinished for probably a year!
granny square purse
little hearts doily (first filet project and have since forgotten how to do some of the stuff)
and eye glasses case.

I know that's not all that much, but I hate having things unfinished for too long!

I got a couple more rounds on the Around the World in 80 scraps throw, I'm going to do that on all in scraps so I can get rid of some of them. I would have done more but my arms were so sore from scrubbing yesterday I could barely hold a hook.

I didn't realize that other people put some of their WIPs in Wal Mart bags, too. :sofunny When I'm cleaning my house for company, I always grab a Wal Mart bag or two or three and put my WIPs in them. Then they go into my stash closet...which is such a mess, considering hubby built me some shelves in there shortly after Christmas. I tried to keep it neat...honest :faint but sometimes I just shove stuff in there and don't get around to organizing again. That could be a half-day project.

I think there is a Martha poncho in there that I started and stuffed in there, maybe an afghan, maybe a few doilies and some dishcloths. Most of all, there's lots of yarn in there that I had "intentions" for and forgot for what I intended them.

Great idea for a CAL. As soon as I'm finished with my current afghan, I will get into that closet and organize and find my WIPs that need to be finished.

I actually frogged out the romper that I had started and started over again on a dress for Mitch. Unfortunately, it's coming out way big, so I'm not sure what'll happen with it... It's probably a 5/6, but oh well. I just need the motivation to finish it now! I'm working on the skirt, and I think I'm about half a ball of yarn in. Then I have to do the back and seam them all together.

The skirt is a lot farther along than this, but it's the only picture I have since it's already dark out.

I know I for one am NOT counting other crafts. If I had to count the number of quilts that are in the UFO stage, I'd probably go into shock. I wish I could get down to 3... :lol

Yay... I'm down to 6 WIPs/UFOs... I can't believe I was once in the double digits! I've finished my sockapal2a socks now, and so won't let myself have two pair of socks going until I've finished all my grandma's toe socks I have planned. :) (They're a WIP I keep finishing and restarting, and thus don't change the WIP count.)

I am also joining you gals on the WIP/UFO attack. Crocheting is one area where I rarely had more than one project at a time, so UFOs were never really a problem (certainly not like quilting!). However, some things have started to get out of control!

1. One Stitch Afghan in Homespun - put it down 2 years ago...there it stayed about 85% done. It isn't really wide enough. :thair
2. Summer Sling (about 1/2 done). Now I have to find the bag with the rest of the cotton yarn!:blush
3. Tractor Christmas Stocking (1/2 done) for my BIL who actually drives one of those John Deere farm ones.:smiling

I think that's it!?

Oh no!!!!!!! The UFOs in my apartment are multiplying faster than rabbits!! I don't know how they started reproducing as there were ZERO of them a month ago, but somehow one snuck in, and its become an infestation!

First is my evening shawl - have not touched it in a month now!!

Next are several dishcloths languishing away in a bag on the floor (and they don't even take too long to finish - laziness, sheer laziness I tell you!!)

Wrapping it up is a doily I started for my Grandmother and a Scarf for my neice......the 63 squares afghan.....and several random projects - not even sure what they are supposed to be!

Argh! How did this happen????? *deep breath* Okay, I am going to show them who is boss around here! Off I go to eliminate a few of them...two to frog (what were they???) and at least 1 to finish each night this week....I can do it!!!

To be brief (a change for me, I know) a WIP is a Work In Process (so one you are actively working on) and a UFO is an UnFinished Object (formerly a WIP, now consigned to the forgotten depths of a closet, craft bag, pile under the bed etc :lol ) I remember :think for days all of the little acronyms that folks use!!

This board stuff is just too funny. :lol It's a weird shorthand. :think I spend a lot of time tring to understand the way things work. I am getting there. It sure is fun here.

Don't worry Priscilla - before long you'll be slinging the lingo with the rest of us as if you were born speaking it! :lol I remember my confusion when I first encountered "frogging" in someone's post! The hard part for me now is when I'm talking to friends and family and slip right into "Crochetville-speak", their puzzled looks are priceless! :rofl

I should probably join this CAL, I've certainly piled up quite a few WIPs and UFOs in the last several months, that's for sure... :eek I think the oldest UFO I found is the "Blanket of Roses" throw kit I recently found - that I started something like 15 or 16 YEARS ago! :eek:eek:eek I bet that's a record! :blush :devil

You do not suck and you are not alone. :-) I still have not finished a single UFO since starting this crochet along. I took a picture of it, posted it on my blog and added a link even. I have have not touched it since. LOL!

Stefani I think I am going to have to set a day aside just to finish them, like a UFO-a-thon....Honestly, it makes no sense, most would take less than 30 minutes to complete!!!!! Is there a name for this syndrome? :blush

True. If I just sat my butt down and did it, I would have them all completed. I don't know if there is a name for this syndrome (other than me being lazy :lol - LOL!) If you find a name - please let me know. :D

You know I am ashamed to admit.......I still have not mailed my nieces their Christmas presents. All I need to do is sew a snap on 2 purses and I think sew a strap on just one purse. Oh and pack it all up and head over to the post office! Maybe that is what is keeping me from finishing? :think

I'm a newb to crochetville, but I have 1 big UFO. It's the afghan that I was supposed to make my nephew and give to him LAST christmas. I made all like 82 granny sqaures for this great patriotic blanket for him. Had the pattern of the colors R,W,B and a Verig. of all 3 all worked out, so there were 6 different squares and they were gonna be in diaganols and look cool. Well, I UFO'd it once, and when I came back to it, I think I used the wrong size hook, so my squares weren't all the same size, and I couldn't get them to line up right when I was assembling it...GRRRRR .. NEWAY, I sent all those squares into Online Angels to go toward ghans for others, and started little Gavins blanket all over again, this time 1 giant Granny Square....I can even change hook sizes and it won't mess it up :). But I still haven't finished it, it sat for a few months already this year, and I keep saying it's too hot, or whatever else, and I've done a few other projects in the meantime, I have complete avoidance of this blanket happening...
So I'd like to join this corchet along, and pledge to finish Gavins blanket for Christmas....THIS YEAR!!!!! NO EXCUSES!!!!!!

Ok, I finished the granny square blanket and the LB throw. I think I may frog the glasses case. That leaves the purse and doily. I'll get to them soon, I hope! :)

Thought I would officially post in the UFO section--finished ONE! The One Line afghan is done and ready to be gifted.

Now, I have to find the directions for the other two. Imagine that. Losing the directions.:blush Like this doesn't happen to everybody, right? :lol Oh, yes, and I started TWO projects this weekend to use up scraps...Alas..I'm a victim of saving yarn.

I had a blanket that I started while on a road trip 2 years ago that has sat in my craft closet since returning from said road trip. I loved the yarn used in it... so soft and warm... but for some reason couldn't bring myself to finish it.

After reading what you girls are doing, I went right to my craft closet, brought out the WalMart bag it was in (wasn't that mentioned in the original post?) and frogged the whole thing! I then thought, "Oh my gosh. What the heck have I done!?!"

I'd just like to say that it is now a long, luxurious scarf and matching hat. What I shall do with the other skeins I purchased to use for that blanket, I don't know yet. But I look forward to seeing what they'll become. :D

The first time I saw the word "frog", I cracked up - The Frog Smilie is even better! :2frog

My only UFO is a messed-up red worsted yarn doily. It needs to get frogged and turned into something else!! Thanks for the inspiration!

I guess all my UFO's are techinically WIPS, but the problem is I just keep starting new projects with oiut finishing anything, I do have at least one FOR SURE UFO, but I'm joining this to get all my WIP's done, and that one UFO frogged, will be the first time I frog something and use the yarn for something else! Thanks for starting this, it was much needed, I had just posted pictures of my piles of WIP's on my blog a couple days ago!

OK, I'm in. I'll relent.

Fortunately, I only have two UFOs. One that I picked up and starting working on again. It's the Fresh as a Daisy pattern from the Leisure Arts: Our Best Afghans A to Z booklet. About this time two years ago I handed my mom my crochet pattern books and had her pick an afghan. She picked that one, and asked if I could make it big enough to fit her queen bed. Sure, no problem, just add more squares. Turns out, the squares are tiny (two or three inches as the most) and I had to add a gazillion of them. I still have 306 to go, plus the border, plus weaving. I'm hoping to have it done by this Christmas.

The second is a afghan for my boyfriend. It's crocheted from a chart. It is the Xcellend Choice pattern from the same book as the daisies. I started on it when I went riding in the semi with him in April. Haven't touched it since.

I'm wanting to start an afghan for my sister (undecided pattern), an afghan for her exchange student made like her home country's flag, and something for me! But I will get my mom's afghan finished before I start anything else...but maybe not before I buy more yarn.

I am SO guilty of this! I kid you not! I suppose the MOST pressing is getting Cindy's Kitchen set,and her afghan finished....and the baby ghan for Bella...( That little cutie was born June 15th...And, she IS cute,by the way...She's my cousin Cathy's newest grandbaby...)

Just a comment... having been an 'exchange student' (though in college) three times, getting something like that would be awesome, but I think it would have meant even more if it was the flag of the country that was my 'new' home instead of the home I was going back to. Just something for you to chew over. Good luck with the daisy squares!

I usually err on the side of caution when it comes to my "nieces" Two of the four previous girls loved the United States, the other two couldn't wait to leave. By the time I'm ready to start this one, hopefully we'll know how she feels.

LOL! I currently have one UFO in the blanket-box. A Granny Square Afghan that I started years ago, got all the granny-squares done and had been bordering it together.

Recently, I found a video-tape from Thanksgiving 1996 and what do you think I saw sitting on the back of the couch?? Yep, you guessed it, MY UFO!!! Worst of all, it was about 1/3 finished then, and is only about 1/2 finished now... 10 years later!
:coo

Is this some kind of record? or does it just validate my parking at Procrastinators Annonymous? :lol

Due to focusing on swaps and Christmas, my UFO list has increased to include the 63 Squares Afghan and an Evening Shawl I've been working on. :eek I'll get back to these sooner or later!

I do believe that I hold one of the longest UFO projects, although it relates to another one of my crafts. I also cross stitch and way back somewhere around 1986 maybe 1987 I started several different cross stitch ornaments. I had decided that they were all too easy for me, in the know it all way that only an 8 year old has! Instead of being the good little cross stitcher and finishing them up and not doing them again, I instead shoved them into a zip lock and condemned them to the bottom of my closet, and then the depths of a storage box! While back in the US in June, I actually came across them, all still half done! :blush And where are they now you ask? Why, put back into the same box that I found them in! :lol

UFO? I love it. I'm a newbie here so the TLA (three letter acronym) for unfinished object is new to me. Yes, I'm guilty of starting projects before finishing others. I don't have too many of those lying around, just one scarf where I ran out of yarn, a poncho that I definitely have to frog, and the worst project is a granny square blanket that I started for a home color scheme that we don't even have any more!

To ease the quilt, I've started using left over yarn to crochet small blankets for the local humane society. Check out "hugs for homeless animals", www.h4ha.org (ht
