View Full Version : Difficult Stitches/Stitch of the Week Online Class

I've received several requests for a class that would consist of tips and techniques for doing difficult stitches or stitch patterns. The class could cover a different stitch or stitch pattern each week, and the students would just make small swatches to gain experience using the stitch.

If we offered a class like this, what are the stitches you would be interested in learning more about?

I like this idea, I could make a dishcloth a week in different stitch patterns, or a square and put them together. I can't think of any particular stitches I don't know, but I am sure someone will surprise me.

I am sure tha tno matter what stiches are taught we would still love it. I think the forum consists people who are just begining to crochet through those that have been doing it fo years so I am sure we would all love to have something tlike this. I am always up for learning something new or brushing up on a skill I havent used in awhile. Great idea Amy!!!!!

Front/back post stitches and cable definitely. I'm still pretty much a beginner, so I'm sure there are stitches I don't even know of yet.

Thanks, Amy! This is a great idea.

Bouillon (did I spell that correctly?); that rolled stitch Kathy/Katchkan uses in her doilies. I had it in a pattern recently and couldn't do it properly so I just gave up. Patty

Let us know if you have an idea of price and length of subscriptions, weeklly, monthly, yearly etc. I was just thinking that say $5 a week would be steep for one stitch.

Since I'm a real beginner to crochetting, then anything besides sc, dc and hdc would be "hard" for me. Doing a dishcloth of each stitch would be great!

Cables, entrelac, anything diagonal, solomon's knots, hairpin and broomstick (although those may need their own classes).

Cables - without a doubt...I love the look of them, but can't seem to get them right...all of the patterns I have are so hard to follow! Solomon's Knot also...that one's a mystery to me.

Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions! It will take me awhile to come up with some class ideas for all these stitches, but I'm working on it.

In the meantime, there will be a class in November that will focus on cables and front post double crochet. It will be a project class, so you'll also end up with a pattern for a purse, with detailed instructions on how to line the purse (optional).

Please be on the lookout, as we're developing the schedule of November classes. We hope to be able to post the schedule by Wednesday, October 24. We'll give everybody a few days to look at all the class information and decide which class(es) they want to take with no pressure to hurry and sign up. Then registration will actually open on Monday, October 29, with classes starting on Monday, November 5.

I thought I was aware of all the stitches in crochet. What is entralac which has been mentioned in difficult stitches class.
Thanks,

Amy - great idea - I will sign up for the stitch class as there are many that I dont know and would love to learn. For me, I prefer seeing a video of how the stitch is being done, so if that is possible for the teacher to include, that would be more than wonderful.

Thank you for coordinating this for us

A great idea, I would love to learn new stitches instead of trying them in a pattern and having another WIP until I practice it on my own.

Video's or video links would be wonderful if it's possible.

Yes, we have to charge fees for classes just like classes that are offered in stores or at conventions. There are costs associated with providing them. :)

I'd be interested, bullion any pattern especially new ones not in the stitch books.Tulip stitch. I'd be interested in Tunisian Crochet,Crochet on the double. I am presently trying to teach myself tunisian crochet I love how thick and warm it is and how you can cross-stitch on it (another favourite hobby). I bought a book online (partly because it was the only one I could get) only to find the instructions next to impossible to follow and the diagrams are with dark blue wool and you can't see what is being illustrated. I've made some progress with Nexstitch, but instructions are few and often unclear.

Kim Guzman is currently teaching some Tunisian classes here, but registration for this month has closed.

She will most likely be teaching them again in January, so check back in December for all the registration details. Kim is an EXCELLENT teacher, and the students from her "test" class in October thought she did a wonderful job explaining everything.

All stitches which create INTERESTING TEXTURES!!!
Any new stitches created in the past 2 years!!
Great Idea - this class but yeah, $5 a week is way too much for me.
I think I'd be willing to do $2 a stitch as long as I had the CHOICE
of which stitches I'd be signing up for. THANKS :)

I totally agree with the above statement that Kim Guzman is an EXCELLENT teacher!! I took her first Tunisian class here and although I didn't complete a project, I did learn the stitches and enjoyed being able to learn at my own pace!

I LOVED the tunisian class I took with Kim! She was great and the other students were great too. It was a LOT of fun.

I would really love another Tunisian class with some new stitches. Kim offered another class but I felt it was too advanced for me, so I'd like something just above the TSS & TKS.

I saw something recently about illusion Tunisian that sounded interesting. I'd like to learn that too.

There are other stitches in crochet that I struggle with like reverse stitch, seed and crab stitches. Sometimes I just don't get it. :think

I just wanted to put my two cents in about videos. Some of us are on dial up. I can't view videos. It takes FOREVER to download and then sometimes they don't even work. So if videos were offered, step-by-step pictures should be too. Otherwise it will not be usable by those of us who don't have DSL/cable. It isn't even available where I live. Satellite is. But I don't want fast internet badly enough to pay that price tag!
Thanks

loveknot, rev. sc, cant think of the name of it but the spiderweb looking stitch, definatly the bullion. another I can't think of the name. Someone did a pattern for a washcloth with this stitch. It was really confusing. You have to crochet in the side of a stitch and you have a few regular stitches. And it goes in the round I think. Okay bad description. But thats all I remember.

I agree! As a beginner I only know ch, sl st, sc and the basic idea of dc. I'll be up to learn also. BUT, if I'm going to learn it must be working on a small project. Placemats, dishcloths or things of that nature. This will ensure I get a finished project and feel that I accomplished something rather than doing swatches and that I won't loose patience if it was going to be BIGGER project.

P.S. As the girls mentioned before I too would like to learn front post, back post stitches. I have a pattern that calls for those stitches. P.S. Will these classes help a left-handed person learn?
