I'm a beginner at crocheting but i don't want to make her a afghan with just a plain color. i don't know what to do. All the things I would like to make her i can't because it is to hard. She is a big crocheting addict to. Like i said i am a beginner so i don't know what to do. I need some help bad! Can any of you smart crocheters help a 13 year old girl hahahaha thanks! :clap

Scarves are easy to crochet. I like to use Homespun yarn for them and it has a nice texture and different shades of color so you can use just one skein and not have to change colors. I have an easy way that I do them. Just chain it as long as you want the scarf, and double crochet back in the back loops only and do this for 5 or 6 rows depending on how wide you want it. Tie off. Make some 5 tassles on the bottom one in the middle 2 on the ends and 1 in the midddle of each of the middle and ends ones so it will be evenly disbursed. If you live in a hotter climate and don't need a scarf, you can make her some dishcloths from cotton yarn like sugar and cream. These are just a square and you can make them one color if you like. There are patterns for these on the Lily website for sugar and cream. good luck! :hook

Krissy - there are lots of patterns on Crochet Pattern Central (http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com). Here's a link to the page with scarf patterns:

Hats and slippers are usually easy to make. What about potholders or a bookmark? When I first started crocheting, I gave my mom lots of potholders.

How about something like this:

You could add a bar of nice smelling soap and some body wash and lotion.

I for one would not use Homespun as a beginner though. The stitches can get a bit tricky trying to see them and all. That is just my opinion of course.

Baskets are easy, quick and extremely useful. I keep my excess balls of yarn in them when I finish a project.

and
http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory.php
has a ton of patterns. Look under "baskets".

Hi, one of the first things that I crocheted besides scarves, was a simple poncho. Pick a yarn that has an easy texture to work with-that it's easy to see the holes. Most ponchos are just 2 rectangles sewn together with very simple stitches. Lionbrand has several nice ones for free online. Goodluck!!! Carey

:hook Since you said your mother likes to crochet, why not make her a small hook holder or small tote for a take along project? Crochet Pattern Central is the BEST place for patterns

Krissy....you can still do a very easy pattern and have it look great by useing a variegated yarn..... some of the prettiest, I think, are the Monet color combinations by Berroco Yarns
http://www.berroco.com/shade_cards/monet_sh.html
I know that they can be a bit expensive, but she is the ONLY Mom you've got! Just doing a simple sc back and forth will make a beautiful afghan.......there are cheaper varieties of the monet color combinations as well........
