I have two favorite stitches I like to crochet, either the shell stitch or the brick stitch.

I'd like some input for color patterning and size to make a "lapghan". I have a brown, and a lighter tan I'd like to make for my son. Any suggestions? I was thinking 7 rows of one color and maybe 3 of the other? but not sure how to "pattern" them.

I searched around and found a link to the stripe site, but since I didn't really see brown and beige it was hard to visualize and I didn't see a pattern that "struck my fancy".

What width would you make something for someone sitting in a recliner while they got dialysis treatments? (People tend to get cold why getting treatment, so I'm not sure if I should just make a normal type afghan or make something smaller (lighter and easier to fold up and take)... Suggestions? thanks.

about 3 feet wide. I make my lapghans 3 x 4 feet. That's great for sitting and covering the lap and legs. If someone is lying down maybe 3 x 5.

I love the look of shell stitch. My mother taught me to do it with 5 dc in the shell, so I've always done that.

Striped rows tend to look best in odd numbers rather than even, if that's any help. 3, 5 and 3, 7 are nice.
