Dh's co-worker wants me to make a square or rectangular baby blanket with these colors- baby pink, purple, yellow, green and white. I am trying to find a square/rectangular pattern that would look good with so many colors.

I've done a shell like that with my scraps.
I've also done the box stitch corner to corner.
They both work up great.
You can use the generator or go with your flow:

I have one. It was on the web, but I can't find it. The pattern was 4 sqares, one of each color. You could probably use any stitch to make the squares. This pattern was using Moda Dea yarn called Baby Talk. I used Simply soft. The 2 squares are mde together. Like chain 60 and do the same amount of rows of 2 different colors. Then do a second piece the same with 2 other colors. Sew together and put on a white edging. I made mine in purple, blue, green and lt. blue. It turned out very nice. This is how it looked. http://www.crochetville.org/forum/http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/sprtsbear/th_BabyBlocks-1.jpg (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/sprtsbear/BabyBlocks-1.jpg)

Are you going to use baby weight or WW? A wave design (curvey ripple, no points) will work in baby weight. You can try Empress Busy Bee's color stripe generator too.

this one is my favorite. the pattern, followed exactly, makes a rectangle, But I always modify it by making the starting chain longer and making a square out of it. I have used both baby weight variegated, and Caron SS in stripes.
I work all rows in the pattern, then switch colors when it calls for a repeat of the rows.
Right now i'm actually working on one using variegated SS for a four row repeat, then pink(4 rows), then variegated again(4 rows), then cream, then variegated, etc.

I actually found this pattern yesterday and was going to ask if anyone had tried it. Thanks!

I made a blanket for my fiance's cousin when she had a baby and I made up the pattern.
I treated 3 rows: (1 row of sc, 1 row of [3 dc, sk 2 st, etc.], and 1 row of sc) as one ROW
I did a few ROWs of one color, and switch to another. I did a random pattern until it was half as wide that I wanted it and then I mirrored the colors.
It was a fun blanket to make but of course I did not take a picture of it...
I hope you find a pattern that you like.
