View Full Version : Where to find an S hook?

I just looked at the hooks & needles standards page that was linked to from one of the topics in this section, and I saw an S listed.
Anyone know where I can find an S? The biggest hook I've ever found in any store is a Q, but I crochet pretty tight and almost always have to go up a size or two from what a pattern calls for, so it's hard for me to do anything that calls for a Q hook without adjusting the pattern a lot. I would *so* totally love to have an S hook!

The only place I've seen them is online. There are some really pretty ones at TOTC - click here (http://www.turn-of-the-century.com/bighook.htm).

Okay I know I'm tired when I was trying to picture an "s" shaped hook and not a size S hook. :lol
I hope to get a TOTC hook someday. :)h

Thanks everyone!
I'm seriously coveting those Turn of the Century hooks. Maybe I'll tell hubby what a great birthday present that would make :wowdrool
I'll keep an eye out for the plastic ones, too. My Joann's doesn't sell them, but this one's really small. Next time I get to the city I'll have to take a look around at Michael's and the big Joann's.
This is so cool--I pretty much always blow off any pattern that calls for a Q hook because I know how much work it'd take for me to adapt it. Now I can do them! :bounce

i will say this.. i love my wooden one better than the plastic for a few reasons.. the wood one is shorter.. more managable.. it is also designed to fit your hand better more ergonomic.. and its just ****ed pretty!

Elizabeth - does your yarn slide easier with a wood hook or the plastic one??

I'm curious about that, too. I've never owned a wood hook, and I've wondered how they are to use...

i like the way the yarn works on the wood hook better.. its a more controlled slide.. if you get what i am saying.. the plastic ones let it slide too fast and too much sometimes and on the wood hook you just dont get that.. its really nice

Thanks Elizabeth - I have already decided to get a P hook and probably the 13mm one from Bill but he is out of stock and wont be re-stocking for 2-3 weeks

Thanks, that's good to know.
I was dropping some very unsubtle hints about how one of those would be a great birthday present, and I was instructed to order one and then forget I ordered it :p :woohoo

Wow, TOTC is quick! Bill emailed me yesterday to say he was shipping my hook, and it got here today. Turns out they're in the same state as me, but that's still pretty amazing considering I just ordered it on Sunday!
Now it's killing me to wait until my birthday :wowdrool (Hubby confiscated the package as soon as it came and hid it.)
