View Full Version : My First Thread Project!

Hi! I have finally finished my first thread project, a Doily! :clap I really liked the difference working with the thread, although I did notice that my fingers in my left hand tend to cramp up faster when I am using the thread than regular yarn! I will definently start trying some more difficult patterns now - perhaps some snowflakes or more intricate doilies...and there is always the butterflies that are on my list of to-dos, the bookmarks, barefoot sandles.......... :laughroll

I've posted a picture of the doily on my blog along with the reason why I am not crocheting tonight: http://cityofcrochet.blogspot.com/2005/04/its-not-my-night-to-crochet.html (http://cityofcrochet.blogspot.com/2005/04/its-not-my-night-to-crochet.html)

Thanks again to Vera for her help with understanding the last round of the pattern! :hug

:yay :yay :yay

Congratulations!

It looks great. The thread you used is very pretty. Glad I was able to help.

You can get rid of the curl by blocking it. There are lots of ways to block a doily, but here's what I do most of the time.

Wash it in cold water, Be careful not to twist it much.
Roll the doily in a clean towel to get rid of the excess water.
Smooth it to shape on top of a couple of clean towels and pin it pace using rust proof pins. I like T-pins
Let it dry COMPLETELY. Unpin it, and you're good to go:D !

Very nice doily! I just started working with thread, but it takes me forever! I only seem to work on it for short periods of time. Maybe because it feels like working in miniature!:eek

Kimberly it's beautiful!! :yes I love the color you used, it's great in that pattern.

I really liked the difference working with the thread, although I did notice that my fingers in my left hand tend to cramp up faster when I am using the thread than regular yarn!

See if you can find some hook cushions (http://www.createforless.com/products/productDetail.asp?ProductID=51424&GCID=C10601x061) for your steel hooks. For me and a couple other people I've talked to the cushions help a great deal with that left hand discomfort. I'm not sure how that works, since if you're a righty, you hold the hook in your right hand (with the cushion on it) and somehow it makes your left hand not ache so much, but it does seem to work. It made an almost instant, incredible difference for me the first time I started using them, and now I have them on almost all of my steel hooks.

Thank you everyone for the kind words & the suggestions Julie & Vera! I can not say what the thread I used is since the ball I bought was unmarked at the store!

The doily pattern can be found here Doily 1 (http://www.jimsyldesign.com/~crochet/doily1.html) - it is fairly easy and for those of you who wish to try your hand out at the thread crochet, this pattern would be good to start with!

Thanks again!
