Grandpa's Scarf and Hat

My husband's family is spending Christmas with his grandpa this year, but we can't be there. So I thought it would at least be nice to send along a little something for Grandpa to open. He lives in Michigan, so I know he'll have plenty of cold days left after Christmas on which to wear this hat and scarf! I loosely followed the pattern for the "Thick Warm Crocheted Winter Hat" from Crochet Garden, but in place of cables I did fpdc because I wanted to add some stripes instead and make the scarf to match. I ran out of dark grey after the hat, and I couldn't find another grey that would match. I had to use heather grey RHSS on the scarf instead. But in person they match alot better than in the photo. For some reason my camera is making the hat look almost purple...but it's not...I promise! :think
