Hi all. I want to get organized to donate items for preemies and needy families to my local hospitals but I'm not sure how to get started and I'm looking for advice from those of you who already donate things. If anyone is donating to my local hospitals already, it's not on the web. I have called and emailed people at the two hospitals near me but it seems no one knows what I am talking about or who I should talk to. Who are your contact people? Nurses? Social workers? Community relations people? I'm getting lost in the maze of voicemail and organizational diagrams! :headache
I just want to find out what the babies need and who to hand over the items to! Who do you think is the best person to talk to?
Thanks!

Try this website you can put in your zip and it gives you the hospitals in your area and the contact info.
http://www.hood.edu/carewear/ Well it used to work but if you click on hiospitals and then look through them they're in alphabetical order it has contact info.
I'm sure someone will pop in and give you more help.

Hi Raquel! (beautiful name!)
If you visit www.carewear.org (http://www.carewear.org) that is the new site for the group that Alisha mentioned...put your state into the search and that should generate for you a list of places in your area and what their needs are, and who to contact at each place.
If you're still looking for somewhere to donate after that, feel free to PM me and I will do what I can to get you in touch with a place that will appreciate your wonderful donations :) I have contacts for several different kinds of donations.

Raquel. Isn't there a childrens hospital in Oakland? I know it's a bit far to go but you could do a monthly drop off or something. I'd be happy to go with you when I get there. My friend down the street here works for a childrens hospital and says that they LOVE to get these kinds of things for the kiddos and that it's a big thing here to crochet or quilt blankies for kids that are going in for cancer treatments. It's something they all receive at the orientation and bring with them every treatment.
Hmmm :think trying to think if we know any nurses around there...

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Things are progressing at one hospital I contacted, so I'm encouraged... Marla, I will definitely email the NIN person... (so funny, I'm so used to NIN referring to the band Nine Inch Nails; the Newborns in Need people would be alarmed at such music I think...) Anyway, I digress! Thanks again!
