A continuation of 2007's game (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42509). With the start of the new year, you get to start with zero's for your point score. Participants from the 2007, wipe the slate clean and start anew! If you want, keep your 2007 score in your siggy as a reminder to "DO BETTER". :cheer

If your new to our very addictive game, here are the rules!

Everyone who's going to join us, put a line in your signature for Stashbusting Score. Example: Week to date (WTD) +6 Year to date (YTD) -615

Post your scores by 8pm on Saturday. Shortly after, we'll tally the scores and see who is that week's winners. To help us find your final score among the other posts, make it obvious! Like this: My final score for this week is -56 but we hope that your scores will be positive! :eek:clap

Posting time is 8pm EASTERN TIME Saturday.

For every SKEIN of yarn you use up completely, you get 2 points.
For every SKEIN of yarn you turn into a small ball, you get 1 point.
For every ball of yarn you use, you get 1 point.

For every SKEIN you buy, get given or inherit, you LOSE 2 points!!!
For every BALL you buy, receive or inherit, you LOSE 1 point!

Clarification: for those of you confused by my terms. "A Skein" is a brand-new bundle of yarn, a whole unit you buy at the store (or its equivalent, if you wind into cakes) "A Ball" is when you use up half or more of the skein and have to wind it by hand to prevent it from getting knotted.

You will only get 2 points total for any one skein. 2 points if you use the whole thing all at once. Or, one point if you're using a partial skein started on another project and FINISH it off. Or, a point if you start a skein and use it on a project, then have to store it because your project is done.

It's just a fun game for some of us who have a bit more than we need to bring our stash down to manageable proportions.

Of course, when your stash is gone, the prize is that you GET TO BUY MORE!!!! :rofl

This is an on-going CAL - Feel free to join at any time!

This was brought up a few times in the old thread:
When you start playing with us for the first time, you DON'T count what's in your stash. For some of us, that's just impossible! You get points when you use up what's in your stash, or lose points when you add to your stash. Also, points are counted if you crochet OR knit.

This sounds like a load of fun. I have a good amount of stash that I inherited when my grandmother passes away in 1999. I am so thankful that I kept it even though I wasn't crocheting at the time. Can't wait to get started.

I'm in. I do have a question though. If you buy a skein because a comfortghan (or other charity project) calls for a color you don't have on hand, does that skein count in the totals?

Edited: I've got my spreadsheet already made up and I'm ready to go.

I zeroed out my stashbusting score when the rules for signatures changed, but I'm still tryng to bust some stash, so I may join back up for 2008. I don't have much money right now to buy yarn anyway, which I suppose is a good thing. That ought to help with the whole stashbusting effort.:lol

That's why I decided to join this one. I need to seriously save some money this year and get my finances back in order. I'm hoping by having to be accountable it will make me think twice before I buy any yarn just because it's pretty.

I'm in - I have lots of stashbusting projects going on!

Any chance we can get extra points for using our stash to make 7X9 Warm Up America squares for the Caron SS group contest (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67431) that Crochetville is entering?

I'm in! I really need to use up some of my stash according to my DH and DS. :lol

Now just so I make sure I understand....we add our stashbusting totals to our signature and update that whenever necessary AND once a week come to this thread and post our score??

December 30, 2007, 01:03 PM
To answer an earlier question: everything counts even if you buy it for a comfortghan. The good this is if you use it right away, it'll come right out of your score!

I'm back in for this year. My stash is a bit smaller this year, but I'm moving soon so I need to get it under control a bit more!

Most of us update in the thread when we use something up. Feel free to check the old thread and see how we have been doing it. But at least, post on saturday with your weekly total.

No extra points. A skein is worth 2 points no matter what it's used for. We have to keep the rules the same for everyone.

I have more thread than yarn, and would love to use this "game" as an incentive to use this up, too.

Yes, thread counts too! But in the same point rules as well. So a super big thing of thread, like the ones that are over a mile long, still only counts as 2 points when purchased and 2 points when the WHOLE thing is used up. If you use up one that is 1/2 gone, then you'll still get one point. So your point progress will be very slow when using up thread, but they still count!

I'll join in on this one. I lost count of what I was using and buying these past few months so dropped out of the 2007 game but I just bought a ton of yarn for a couple projects I'm planning for 2008 so this will help a lot.

I'm so glad you're doing this again for 2008! I didn't join last year but kept wanting to and decided if there was a new one for the new year I'd join in so COUNT ME IN! One of my goals for the new year is to really take control of my stash and to try and tame my spending on new yarn when I don't need it!

P.S. I'm making a scarf right now with a skein of yarn I've had for 2 years. Can you believe how much I procrastinate when I buy yarn? I love buying it but then I can never decide how to use it!

I'm confused about how you get a positive total for the year without a huge stash of yarn. In theory if you use exactly what you gain, your total will be zero. My stash isn't very big (I've seen what many of you have in yours - my 12 skeins and 8 balls is nothing :P). I feel like I would definitely end the year in a negative status and that doesn't seem very motivating to me.

My stash isn't large either. I found 42 skeins of yarn, but still looking around the house for more. And this doesn't include thread, which I'm going to try and inventory tomorrow. But my goal is to use as much of this as I can. I really don't have the storage space for much, so I want to use up what I have because my DH thinks I have too much stuff just laying around this tiny house! oooh if he only saw what some of you have for stashes he'd die!!!

Cesa.......to answer your question you dont count what you already have on hand, but what you purchase, get as a gift or such. If you go purchase 2 skeins then you would post a -4...2 points for each....

If you use 2 skiens from your stash that you already have you would post a +4. hope this helps.....

And please count me in again this year.....i am trying to use up those negatives!

Krystal16
December 30, 2007, 05:50 PM
Those people who have HIGH YTD scores basically chipped away at their stashes and used up a bunch more than they bough. If you've only got 20 skeins of yarn right now, then the most in the positives you could get is to be +40. However, this shouldn't deter you, because you could use it as a way to make sure your stash doesn't GET out of control!!!

I'm in! I've got about 6 large totes full to the brim. The dresser for my clothes is full of yarn and notions, and there is a XL tote in front of the closet packed because my closet is covered floor to ceiling with fiber. Lets not forget that I cant see my desk because it's under a mountain of yarn. It's amazing I'm even able to type this. I think my SO will be overjoyed to have at least a box destashed :clap.

If anyone is interested, I found a group on Ravelry too for stashbusting called stash for cash (http://www.ravelry.com/groups/cash-for-stash) similar to this game but you set your own goals and reward yourself by earning $$ instead of points. I'm gonna participate in this one too. I'm hoping it will be twice the motivation!

One quick question...

This applies only to stash we start and finish on or after Jan 1st right?

I am working on a Breast Cancer Shawl but I will be using new skeins to complete it ... would this count?

what about if I use another skein for my alligator scarf?

I'm just not quite clear on what counts. :think

December 31, 2007, 03:36 AM
I started the last one with hardly any stash and was trying to use this to keep mine under control but it didn't work :lol as you can see from my score. But there was times it kept me from buying when I really didn't need yarn just because of the price :)

I'm so in again this year. If nothing else I have fun keeping track of how many skeins I've bought over what I've used. :lol

rlanto
December 31, 2007, 03:43 AM
Darksi, I think it would be anything you gain or use once the new year starts. So, if you use a skein on the breast cancer shawl after the year turns, then it's -2, if you buy more fun stuff, it's +2. It's a completely fresh slate for all of us!!

Warrior Maiden
December 31, 2007, 06:50 AM
Thank god we're going to 0 tomorrow, I got rid of 5 skeins yesterday, bought 5 more, then got rid of another 2 1/2, but bought yet another 3...so, wow, even though it looks bad...it would have only put my score down -1.

If you finish 2 skeins on your shawl on friday, you get to count those points. Even if it's an ongoing project, once you use up those skeins you get the points. Does this help? Anything you use *or buy* after Tuesday starts counting for points.

Darksi, I think it would be anything you gain or use once the new year starts. So, if you use a skein on the breast cancer shawl after the year turns, then it's -2, if you buy more fun stuff, it's +2. It's a completely fresh slate for all of us!!

I just thought I'd clarify this for the newbies so they don't get confused. When you use, give away yarn from your stash you get to add points to your score. +2 for each full skein and +1 for each ball.
When you buy, are gifted with or otherwise receive new yarn, you lose points. -2 for each full skein and -1 for each ball.

If your friend Sally saw a huge bag of yarn at a garage sale and thought of you, then drops it off at your front door. Each skein and each ball would count against your score.

Likewise, if you are going thru your stash and decide to gift a local friend/neighbor or local charity, each skein and each ball adopted out counts towards your score.

Like several others, I don't have nearly the stash that some people have, but I still need some motivation to use what I do have. I will give this a whirl this year.....I just bought WAY too much yarn and I need to get it under control before I buy ANYTHING else. I even had to hide some of it at my Mom's house so DH wouldn't find it!! I think this is becoming a disease.....but if those darn stores would only stop having such good sales on my favorite yarns....

Whichever way you want to do it. I don't think there are any "stash police" who are going to come bust you for doing it one way versus the other. Personally, I think that if you paid for it, then you already "bought" it so it is "in" your stash; you just can make anything with it yet because it hasn't arrived. Sort of a stash-in-waiting....

i think the idea is more to motivate yourself to shrink your stash and less to compete points-wise...the points are kind of just for fun. and, in case it helps, even with a ridiculously large stash i am almost certain to end the year in a negative status due to my addiction to buying yarn (and a great discount store in town with a huge yarn section)

I finally decided on a sweater pattern for DD. I've started several, and either she has a growth spurt before I'm done with it or I end up not liking how it's turning out. So either way, it ends up in the :frog pile. The one I found is from the bernat site, Flower Cardigan. Except I'm using HL I love this yarn and no flower design on it.

Hopefully the darn :frog will stay away from this one. I think I'll make her a skirt to go with it, one of Christina's patterns. So I start the year with a -1 no thanks to the darn :frog.

I didn't work yesterday so I stayed home all day and enjoyed the quiet of my day alone. After work today I went to Michael's and bought 5 skeins of yarn. I couldn't help it...when I walked out of work I could hear the yarn calling my name...honest, it was calling my name. See what happens when you work in the same strip mall as a yarn store??

I do have a scarf to make today, and she wants it real wide and long, so I should be able to use up 4 skeins on it.

Am I the first one to go in the hole?

I'm looking at this challenge as an excuse to organize my stash, maybe purge a bit of it, and then take pics and post my inventory to Ravelry...all the while make as many things to use up as much as possible because this is the year we (or me first) move back to the states...there's a method to my madness in all this.

I don't think I have any big plans that requires me to buy any new yarn or crochet cotten, but I can relate to all of you that walk into a Michael's or Joann's or where ever and the stuff just calls out to you like a siren call...it's very hard to say, 'No, no a 1,000 times no," before giving in to the siren's call...

And when the yarn calls your name, you can't buy just one skein. It looks so lonely in the cart that it either: 1) tells you to buy more of it's friends...or 2) it tells it's friends to just jump right in the cart, that you won't mind taking them all home :rolleyes

There are more! My SO is the stash police too. Actually not only is he that, but he is the craft FBI as well. I'm surprised he hasn't taken a job with the IRS and audited my stash to make sure I don't buy any new yarn. Which he probably should because I spent $150 between Joann's and Michaels on Dec 31. Poor guy. I had to find some good hiding spots in my closet. Its getting difficult though, there is no more room.

This will be my first year for Stashbusting CAL!I'm already at +2!:clap

I have a Wordpad document on my desktop. Here's today:

January
01:22yds:Turtle shell & 1rnd GS
93yds:Turtle body,2 stripes on Boyfriend hat & 2nd rnd on GS
35yds:5rnd GS & 3rd rnd on GS
+3

Editing to ask a question.
Is there a yardage minimum to count as a "ball".I sort my yardages into different projects, all the way from 2 1/2yds for a grannies daughter to 105yds for a Durango hat.I have a bunch of little balls I'll be using up for granny squares.Would it be more fair to count,say,20yds for a ball?

I am so glad I joined this CAL. The other day I saw a message on my local freecycle about a lady wanting leftover yarn to make squares. I kept it but didn't reply as I wasn't sure I had anything worth her making a trip for. But tonight I sat down and went through my whole stash! I've been meaning to for the last year because I only found out in this past year that I'm allergic to wool and I knew I had quite a few skeins in my stash somewhere. lol I've just bagged up 16 full skeins PLUS 2 small bags of odd bits (small amounts of leftovers, half skeins etc..). All ready for her to come pick up tomorrow.:clap

Also, joining this CAL made me think differently today when I was working on a hat for my DS. I started his hat with 2 partially used skeins and when I finished the hat, I normally would have tossed what was left into a bag and forgot about it but not this time.....I made a small drawstring bag and even had enough left to start a second drawstring bag! So when I finish that bag, I'll be able to add 2 to my score! Yeah!! Thanks so much for this CAL. I figure if I make little bags with leftovers, I'll have enough to give out next Christmas to everyone I know. lol

:lol:lol I hear you!!!

Well I used up 2 balls today making squares for a comfort shawl. Resisted the urge to hit Michael's for the 30% off on all yarn. Packed up 3 balls and 7 skeins for one friend but won't count it until it is shipped out. (I have this tendency to take stuff back, when it is something I really like):D. Also have 3 skeins and a few balls of rug yarn to send out. Does rug yarn count too?

So I am at +2 until the other stuff is shipped out.:) Gotta go fix my siggy.

when I have just a little left over I make grannie daughters or just circles and put them in a bag... the squares I add extra rows to until they are about 5 rows then join them and make lapghans for charity... the circles I join together and make toys... a row of circles joined with a string up the middle make good arms and legs then I just make solid bodies... sometimes I just make a length of circles and hang them for my kitties to play with...

sometimes I just start crocheting a granny square and tie on a new scrap of yarn when I get to the end of one... these I use in the car... for my grandgirls baby dolls... to throw on the floor for the grandgirls to play on... I don't even bother to tuck in ends on these... the girls like the little tassels...

I bought one of those hanging sweater organizers (the ones with shelves) to store my yarn. It's full to busting and I've still got boxes and bags of yarn threatening to take over my closet. I figure if I use up a good bit of my stash this year I might be able to see more of my clothes and shoes! :yes I hope to get through 4 skeins of RHSS this week making winter gear for my kids that I didn't finish last year. Normally we count a ball as anything less than 1/2 a skein. So it's really up to your judgment what you want to consider a point worthy ball.

I DIDN'T BUY ANYTHING! Woo Hoo! Thats the good news. The bad news is I've given someone my addiction and her husband is gonna come after me in about 6 months when her stash is as bad as mine.

Well ...I've had a wake up call.....kind of......

Last night I was working on a project, adn needed a certain color...I knew I had purchased several months ago. So...I went stash diving. :help And I realized that I have waaaay to much yarn...some of which I have no intention of ever using on anything in particular. I did eventually find the skein I was looking for.....at the bottom of one of my totes. :P

So...I guess it's time for me to see if I can do a little stash busting in 2008. I have 2 scrap 'ghans going right now, so I should be able to get some stash out.....if only I could finish up the last 2 Chrsitmas gifts! :blush

So...I'm in!

My only problem with stashbusting (other than buying more yarn :)) is that I don't know what to do with under a skein of a bunch of different colors that totally don't match. I tried making a scrap project with them, but neons and earth tones really look terrible together (duh). I finally settled on making squares and just piling them back somewhere until there's enough to make a decent looking blanket, but that could take a long time.

Moving right along I did more on the comfort/prayer shawl. Used 1 ball and 2 half skeins (rolling remainder into balls). So how does that work? I know that the 1 ball used is +1, but how do I count the half skeins? Is it +2 for 2 ball sized used, or -2 for 2 balls gained although I already had them as skeins, or do they cancel each other out?
Wow, I have really confused myself. :confused. I think it should be +2 but just have this need to check, even though the stash police don't really care as long as it isn't a stranger coming into the house....:lol.

Needed to buy some more yarn today to complete a project, they didn't have the yarn I needed so bought an alternative instead and a contrasting yarn just cause it was in the bargain bin.

That seems to be your best bet right now. It doesn't matter how long, but some day you will need a quick blankie, and they'll be there waiting for you. You have to be very sneaky if you only want to buy 2 or 3 skeins.....you have to stand there, look at it all, find what you need, grab them, throw them in the cart, then run real fast away from the yarn section :yes:yes

The point is that any given skein is only worth 2 points either plus or minus.

You do not count balls that are formed from yarn you already had. You can claim 1 point for the yarn you did use from a skein and then when that skein is totally completed, you can get your other point.

I think it might help if you refer to the general rules about what is a skein and what is a ball.

A skein is an unused quantity of yarn as purchased.

A Ball is what remains from a skein when you have used some of it and possibly rewound it to a smaller shape. I think you are using the opposite words... :think

Oooh...can I join in? I have a fairly large stash...not complete rooms or anything, but it takes up a fair amount of space in the closet. Didn't have a terrible stash until a year or so ago when someone gifted my friend with two large orange trash bags full of yarn. Like any good friend, she gave me half. I told myself that I need to use some of it up before I buy more, but I keep forgetting. :-)

I used up two balls of Homespun yesterday on a scarf. That would give me +2, right? Oh, wait, I bought a skein of yarn as well. That brings me back to 0. Drat. Oh, well. I'll be working on the scarf again tonight, so maybe I'll get back into positive numbers soon.

My SIL was gifted 6 skeins of dk-weight merino gold yarn. She had no use for it,so she gifted it to me,last year. She said I could have whatever was leftover after I made a hat for the lady who gifted the yarn to her.

I used 2 1/2 50g skeins, using my Cheyenne hat pattern, holding 2 strands together.I also made a flower pin with one strand, for the hat.The leftover 1/2 skein,I used on a neckwarmer I designed specifically to use up the last 57yds.3 full skeins used!:clapI also used 3 old buttons(my second weakness behind yarn:blush)on the neckwarmer & 1 button on the flower pin.

I can see that I will be designing quite a few things for small bits of yarn to keep my numbers up.

:think

OK, got it. Then it is +2 for using the yarn from 2 seperate skeins, and what you are saying is that I cannot count the balls I already had, only new ones I make? Which will mean finding a new storage bin for new 2008 balls as I have a bunch from 2007 skeins I had gotten and used part of.
What confuses me is if this is a stash busting thing, how come I get to count my full unused 2007 skein, but can't use a ball left from a 2007 skein. They are both part of my stash.

Example: I bought 5 skeins in December for a shawl and used 3 and 1/2 skeins, leaving 1 and 1/2 skeins (I rolled the half into a ball). when I use them I will get +2 for the skein and nothing for the ball? Is that right?

You can count any ball you use , including any you had left from 2007. That is how you get your numbers.

ya know what...When School starts I won't have as much time open for crocheting, but I think I'm going to join in this year...I'm worried because I know I have a problem (I've come to find that buying yarn seems to be a common addiction) But maybe this will get me to kick it in gear and get some things done :) Anyway...I'm in!

One question....I'm not much for smaller or scrap projects, so I like to take my smaller "balls" (anywhere from 1/8 to 1/2 skein) and gift or RAOK them to others....do these count in my score?

I hope to also finish off another skein (and hopefully another WIP) tonight...so we'll just have to see! Ok I am explaining this all wrong.

You will get 2 (+) points for using your full skein and you will get 1 (+)point when you use the ball that you have. using up the stash is the whole idea and you get points for doing so.

You will never have the (currently owned) skeins and balls counted against you because you already have them. (- points) it is only yarn that you buy from now on that will get you into trouble.

I think I should shut up now because I can't seem to make it make sense... anyone else able to answer this?

I'm so excited! I've already started with a plus score! Temps are supposed to be down to 18 tonite (it doesn't usually get that cold down here in Florida) and I realized I didn't have a scarf since I always give them away when I make them so I whipped one up using a skein of yarn from my stash! WOO-HOO!

This really is a lot of fun! I hope this really helps me keep my stash under control! Of course, my best friend got me a JoAnns gift card for Christmas so I will probably be in the minus department once I go shopping! LOL

One question? Since I am in the middle of working on 2 major WIP's, one of them being an afghan with 3 colors how does that work? Do I not count anything until I use up an entire skein of something? I do a little each night but I'm using Caron One Pounders for the 2 main colors so won't have those run out for awhile... Just wondered....

THANKS everyone!!!

I will try to explain this all very simply, so as to avoid further confusion.

Any yarn already in your possession does not count against you. It is simply "there".

USING YARN:
- If it starts as a skein and you:
----> use it all up completely => SCORE +2
----> gift it, sell it, throw it out => SCORE +2
----> use enough of it that you roll it into a ball => SCORE +1
----> use some of it, but not enough to roll it into a ball => SCORE 0

- If it starts as a ball (ANY SIZE) and you:
----> use it all up completely => SCORE +1
----> gift it, sell it, throw it out => SCORE +1
----> use some of it, but not all of it => SCORE 0

GETTING YARN:
If you take yarn into your house in any way (gift, buy, grow)

If it is a "new" size, like you'd buy in the store => SCORE -2

If it is a "ball", some wound up size smaller than a new item => SCORE -1

I realized that I counted the skein I bought as 1 point instead of 2, so now that I've used up one ball, my score stays the same to even out. :( I really don't want to start the first week in the negatives.

Question for all of you - when do you decide when a ball or skein is used up? I had some that were so low that they couldn't even do round 2 on a granny square, but I was able to semi-roll them. How do those count?

Another question of your opinions - I have several balls from the same skein(s) that all came from ripping out projects last year. I had been counting them all together as one since they originally were, but since that was last year do I start the new year as if they were all separate? (Did that make sense?)

Thanks!

When I have that little left of a roll, I usually make this:

http://members.aol.com/crochetalong/yoyoghans.html

I have a bag full of them, they use up every last bit of yarn I have and one day I will make me a yo yo afghan. Sometimes, there are members here that actually ask for those to make their own yo yo afghans. They also make cute little toys.

When I finish with those, that is when I usually call it a day for a skein or a ball. I was a member of the LAST stashbusting game and that is what I did. HTH

Do we get to count points for yarn used, but not really completed? I'm working on a project that uses three strands held together and when it's done, I will have used 3 skeins and probably a ball or two of scrap yarn. I'm about 75% done with each of the 3 skeins. Do I have to wait until I finish the skeins and/or project, or can I count one point each now for using more than half the skein of each?

FelixLake

You know, you get to count EACH skein and ball that you are giving away. So count them up! Also points count from Monday. So if you used any of the yarn before then, they don't count for this year.

You're kidding!!!! :yayI can count everything I pullled out on Tuesday!!!! :clapWOW... Now I have to go count them all tonight because the lady is coming to pick them all up tomorrow. I'll take a pic tonight.. just to prove I really did have that much to give away.

My closet is still so full it is scarry, but I'm really going to try hard not to buy anymore yarn until I use up some of these.

Question for all of you - when do you decide when a ball or skein is used up? I had some that were so low that they couldn't even do round 2 on a granny square, but I was able to semi-roll them. How do those count?

A lady in our Project Linus did one using a bunch of small scraps tied together. She just trimmed the ends so they were about 2 inches long and left it raggedy. It looked really cool.

Hee Hee Hee!!!:rofl

I'm in too...score zero right now, I have neither crocheted nor bought this year. Last year I did way to much buying though. Once when I was out of town I went to a Hobby Lobby and spent $200 on yarn. Ouch. It wasn't even expensive yarn. Just cotton colors that we don't have here, bernat camo, and a ton of Moda Dea Dream yarn that i got for $1.19 each (wowzer!!).

Time to get working on making stuff out of all that yarn....

Is it bad that my first thoughts as I read through the posts were about how to beat the system? Should I buy cones or pounders, since they will only count as one skein, or should I buy small balls of cotton since they will get used up fast. I had to stop myself, because that would completely miss the point of stash busting. I need stash busting.

How do I count the ball I am making out of scraps that are to small to use on anything else? I plan to make an "ugly" bag or afghan out of it when it gets big enough. For now though it is just a small ball of scraps about 2 1/2 in diameter. All acrylic ww yarn, and belive me this color combination will be ugly.

I assume that I can count the skeins I finish with just enough scrap left to go on the ball, as finished, but that I will have to count the scrap ball as a gained point once I add something to it this year. Once it is big enough to use then I suppose it should count as a skein gained. Does this seem right and fair?

Returning it is like using it up or giving it away so it counts as +2 per skein.

I make the yo yo's or grannies daughters and then what's left I'm joining into a ball to make something with all the little scraps later.

Any ball no matter how tiny is a point. I usually weigh my skeins to see when I'm over the halfway mark but if I roll it into a ball before it's halfway I count the 1 point then wait till the other half of it gets used up to count the last point.

I used up 1 ball today on little squares so another +1 but I go to Micheals tomorrow with my gift card in hand and don't know what I'll come home with. :lol

I picked up 2 more skeins of Caron SS on my way to work so I had something to do before work.

Does anyone else feel a bit empty when all the holiday WiPs are done? I have other projects, but they're on hold until the yarn comes in. I really don't have anything else to work on that's on a deadline.

Used up 1/2 skein of cotton yarn today making yet another dishcloth. Here's a pic.

Renee, I know what you mean. I find myself sort of wandering around the house looking at my stash and wondering what to do. So I started on the kitchen exchange items I am doing for another online crochet group. But I do feel a bit lost.

I haven't finished reading the whole thread, so maybe this has already been addressed.. but does it count in your favor if you sold some of your stash?
Never mind. Found the answer in post # 148, so the ones I sold put me at a +28. When I get payment for the last bunch that will be 4 more points.

I will try to join, but If not for the sales, I know I'd be going in as a negative as I am heading to Michaels in a few hours. No way to make another baby blanket without purchasing more Baby Clouds (well, not in the time I need to get it done).

Here's to hoping that Amazon.com doesn't have another april fools sale like last year (anyone else remember the TLC Essentials selling for 69cents/skein?). If they do.. I'll be competing with Nght for the shoot the moon score.. lol

The hat & Turtle I made yesterday gave me no points, but I did use a 32yd ball on a 5rnd GS,so that puts me at +15.

What about returning yarn to the store because I bought too much? I know, that's bordering on sacrilege - too much yarn????
The only time I ever returned yarn was Patons Devine:eek Why because I couldnt stand that yarn!! I just hated the feel of it and how it looked done up, that was partly the color LOL. But I just dont like that yarn. Other than that I buy it I keep it:lol I have not used up a complete skien yet of anything. Slow going when you use the 1 pounders! And the knitting is going slow too. But I havent bought more so thats good. And my DH thinks this is the best crochet along I have joined LOL

Wow! I think what you're giving away is about the size of my whole stash! lol :lol It's also very generous of you to donate it all, I'm sure they'll be extrememly thankful! :hug

Ok, as promised, here is a pic of the yarn I'm giving to my Project Linus group. It's three full kitchen sized garbage bags. It totalled
63 partial balls at 1 point each = 63
10 full skeins at 2 points each = 20

I still have about that much in my yarn closet, but the lady came today and took my 3 bags. I did end up at Michaels and bought some of their 30% off yarn. I'll have to count the skeins and see what damage I did. At least these are for a specific purpose.

I started knitting myself a scarf and I'm going to make a hat to match it when i finish the scarf. and i think i'm gonna start my xmas pressies scarves for all. Only problem is once I picked the color for my scarf my sister wanted to make one but had no yarn and didn't like anything in my stash so of course "mel drive me to michaels please" lol and that was all she wrote. I found a grey to go with my blue so I will have a blue grey scarf/hat set. so I guess instead of no score I am -2 =o( lol hopefully soon I will be back at zero or possibly +2 that would be nice hehe

Are you joking? 69 cents a skein?? Oh why, oh why did I not hear about this?? :angry I could have had another garbage bag full of yarn to play with. :hook

Nope not joking. There were lots of us who ordered tons of it. They also had the peaches n cream for something like 19cents/ball.

We THINK what happened is that someone goofed and instead of taking 69cents and 19cents OFF the skeins.. they made them that price!! Whether it was a real mistake, or someone who was about to be fired anyway and was out for revenge.. who knows!! And it really did happen around April Fools last year. I think you can probably search and find the threads talking about it here on the ville. Nevermind.. found it for you (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48238&highlight=TLC+Essentials+cents).

Interestingly, even tho the yarn was ordered through amazon.com, it can from Joanns.

I was doing good today, used up 4 balls and 1/2 skein on more 12" squares. which would have given me +5, but needless to say that didn't stand for long. Mailman delivered some packages. I totally love all of the yarn....8 full skeins and 3 balls added to a -19 in one box I purchased and 6 skeins that was gifted to me +12 for the 2nd box, so putting all the pluses and minuses together that made a total of -26 for the day, :oops, :ohdear, :2eek.

I'm in the central zone but I think any of the american zones would be fine. I will probably have a general list and then post it shortly after 8 or so here, then if we have anyone else post, I'll add/edit them in.

Just a reminder, PLEASE have your scores noticeable when you post. Either bold them or change the color/font size. Something so that they stick out! I haven't even really touched mine.. it's weird, it's like I don't want to use it. I just like knowing it's there. LOL

I wish I ordered at least twice the amount that I did.. and also the BabyClouds that was on sale then too. Oh well, one can hope. :)

I didn't go to Michaels after all today.. too worn out with having to get up at 3am to get dd to airport...so I'm still at a positive.. for now. I know some negs are coming as I have a project in the works that I don't have the correct colors here.. even with all my 69 cent skeins!!

Well, I've been making squares like crazy for a gift I really wanted to have done for Christmas but just got too busy to work on. Fortunately, I bought all the supplies in 2007 so they're really helping me in this CAL! I've earned +10 points for those squares and also made a really quick/easy cardigan and hat for my 4 yo. which earned me another +4. I normally don't change my ytd till the week is over. That's just the way I do it, it's easier for me to remember. If my weekly score is -5 is just take 5 away from my yearly score when I reset my weekly to 0.
