I hope somebody can help me with the size of a baby poncho for a 12-18 mo old. I have the stitch that I'm going to use. I'm not sure how big it should be. I'm making 2 rectangles & joining them. I found ones that are sized for a 2-4 yr old but I'm not sure how much smaller I should make it. Can anybody help me? Thanks

Want to try this one. It is a granny square but with a hole in the center. I use to make these for all the children in our family. Make a chain long enough so that when you join in a circle it should easily go over the baby's head and rest easily on the shoulder. chaon could be longer as there is a string at the neck to keep it slipping off. Start by joining the first and last chain by ss to make a big ring.
Rnd. 1-- Ch 3( for first dc) 1 dc in each ch to end, join with ss to top of 3 ch at the begining of rnd.
Rnd. 2-- Ch 3, in the same place as ss make 2 more dc, *skip 2dc, 3 dc in next dc, ch1, rep from* to end, join to top of 3ch at the beg.
Rnd. 3-- ss to ch1 sp, ch3, 2 dc in same chsp, *ch1, 3 dc in next chsp, rep to end, join.
Rnd 4-- Count the 3 dc groups and divided in two to get the center front and center back of the work.
Now continue as before but make a double 3dc group thus by doing 3dc, ch1, 3dc in both the center chsps. This will give you the point of the poncho. Now keep on doing the rows till the length you want. fasten off. No shaping or joining inthis pattern.
Just be sure to have the foundation chain long enough so as to rest it easy on the shoulders.
Thread a ribbon through the holes on the second round to make a tie for the neck.
