ideas for border for fleece blanket for valentines day

I have some red fleece that I envision it bordered with a lacey border with hearts ( I also have green and could see a shamrock border)
My question is:
what would be the best way ( I have an edgerydoo, and experience with edging blankets)
go around the blanket like usual, but use a filet heart pattern on the base stitches are on
use a filet pattern that goes "sideways" or
stitch up the border and attach to the fleece
I think they all might work, but any thoughts on the best or quickest way to go?
the easier way might be a simpler border and a hearts ribbon, but I think I am up for a challenge.

what about going a few rows around the blanket and then make heart motifs. Place them how you want them and make another few rows of border?
