My daughter saw this hat and would like one but I have been unable to produce a pattern from anywhere! I have googles and looked at all of that. If anyone could point me in the right direction. It looks to be made with the x stitch or am I totally off base? Thanks

that is one cute hat, my DD would like it also. Looks like it uses multiple strands and a large hook.

I've not seen a pattern for something like that, but it looks like 2 strands of possibly worsted yarn with a crossed DC pattern for the cap part of the hat.
Hope that helps you try to figure it out.

Off of etsy.com I was looking at the different crochet items there and she saw this and started with those big blue eyes, "Mom you can make that can't you?" Gets me everytime when she does that and so then I start a quest to look for the pattern. Unfortunatly, the store did not sell patterns or I would have snapped that up in a heart beat and I am unsure if they would be offended if I asked to buy it. New to the etsy forums there and that is why I am unsure.
I am no expert at crocheting to know all the stitches, wow there are a lot.
Thanks for all those who are adding input. I am going to try out the dc crossed over and see if it does what I want it to do.

Last month I saw a hat on ETSY (different than yours) and after staring at it for about a week, I just couldn't figure out how she did it. I e-mailed the seller, told her how much I liked her hat and asked if she would be willing to sell the pattern. She replied that she would but would need time to write it out. Her only stipulation was that I promise not to sell it.. which I agreed to.
Try writing the seller. The worst that could happen is that she refuses to sell the pattern.

CPC has several patterns for newsboy hats. Maybe one of those is close enough and with the addition of a flower might work. Go to http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/hats.php

it does look like an x stitch, which is what i was thinking. I know all of her hats are made with cotton, so that is why it looks like it is made with 2 strands. I just don't know how one would increase with the x stitch. :shrug help anyone??

Looks like a cross double crochet only using the posts. For instance, doing a row of base dc, then a row of cross double crochet around the posts of those stitches. You can see on the border row how the dc goes around the post. Pretty stitch, I must say. :)

That hat is just adorable. I have been playing with some stitches and may have come up with something close. I am still working on it.

I still have to work on the pattern for bigger sizes, this one fits about up to about 12 months.

it almost looks like a trebble crochet where the first loop is left on the hook until after two more trebles are worked then worked in and another loop takes its place and held for a couple more treble .. ok that sounds confusing hope someone knows what I'm talking about , I will give it a try and see what comes up!!

Ok so far this is what I have come up with. I am trying to recreat the cross over look. To get mine to look like the picture in the original post you have to turn it wrong side. I think I need to use a larger hook or a dc. I noticed what I think is hdc in the pic so I thought maybe that is what was used for the cross over also. I think I need to do dc though. Tell me what you think. Getting warmer or no?
