Hello all, my cousin lives in Myrtle Beach SC and is expecting her 1st baby, a baby girl, in May..:yay.. as you know the beach can be hot and I want to make her some baby dresses and such that she can use but that wont give the baby prickly heat rash, Any Ideas???? I'd like to stick with fingering yarn but any ideas are welcome!!!! thanks so much!

I made this little sunhat (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69151) out of Bernat Cottontots yarn. I used dc for the top to keep sun off the top of little heads, and trc for the sides to let air through. There is a simple ruffle and ties. This one doesn't have a shade brim, but it will still protect the baby's head (and look cute).

My suggestion would be to stick with natural fibres, and look for sundress type patterns--they should all work in cottons...avoid more of the acrylics, as they don't breathe as well, and then you get more skin irritation with the baby's perspiration. At least, that's what Ifound with my babies...acrylics could work, if the garment was a loose enough stitch, and a loose fitting one at that...but on the hottest days (humidity and heat work in MI too) I stuck with cotton.
HTH, my :2c...
