I have made one attempt at selling some things, but I haven't sold anything yet. I think some of the small things might do well. But don't try selling afghans on there. If they go it's never for what it's worth.

I sell on ebay a lot. Most all the stuff I sell are doilies. Some books and stuff once in awhile. I do ok, but I am not getting rich. Most of the time I don't make spending money. Goes back into materials. One of the most important things in an auction I have found are the pictures. If they are not good your item will not sell as well. People are visual. They love to look at things. Just look on the show and tell board here. Someone is almost always viewing an item someone has made. Your camera should be your best friend. Take the time to learn how to use every button and get the shots that make your item shine above everyone elses. Also your catch words are important. Handmade/homemade, new and crochet, knit whatever pertains to your item. It was close to a year before my doilies sold about every time. I have a good clientele. Repeat buyers. I am not an expert. Everything I have learned is by trial and error. The hardest part for me is writing. I am not a good writer. Never have been good at english. I hope this has helped. You can make a lot of money there. Many do. Good luck with your venture if you decide to give it a try. There are a few other good place for auction besides ebay there's ioffer, yahoo, herschners, amazon.....I have probably missed a couple.

I do a lot of selling my finished crochet items on ebay. Custom made crochet orders (winners choice of size and/or color) do the best.

What kind of items do you sell on ebay and what are some of your custom orders? I have a variety of items that I have crocheted and was just wondering what items are selling.

I sold one item on eBay even though I had eight items listed at the time. It was a baby hat but only had one bidder! So my experience has not been great. But I will try again at some point. I don't mean to discourage you!

I sell mostly girls crochet clothing. I do custom for size 12 months to 6 yrs and when I add custom color to it they do even better. Including some sewn items (like pants or skirts) help an auction even more when you are doing crochet and fabric together in a set.

I have sold quite a few crochet items on eBay. Mostly baby blankets and such. I even had a store until they raised the store fees. I've since closed the store and haven't sold anything lately. I agree with Priscilla that good pictures are a must.

For those of you selling custom items on eBay, I'm wondering, how much do they tend to go for, or what would be the minimum you would "charge" for such work?

I've never tried to sell on ebay, but what I would do if I were you is do a search for crochet and look and see what items have bids, and what don't. You'll notice that most items don't get bid on. I've spent some time looking into this as well. And most things that sell are priced very low IMHO.

I sold a set of 5 summer caps with matching flower pins for $36 once, and also my highest auction win for a custom size halter top set was $46, then I did a second chance offer to the second highest bidder of $45 - so I sold two custom size halter top sets at $91. Not bad in my opinion :)
Good photos are definately what make the auction!

I have sold quite a few doilies on ebay over the last year and a half. I was so nervous to list one, then when I got a bid I was more nervous. My nerves have calmed down now. Sometimes the doily will sell and other times not. My biggest problem is trying to figure out where to list the item so it will be seen by the most people. Can't really afford to list it in several places.

My two cents: I can name, almost to the day, when my eBay sales dropped. It was February of this year, second week, mid-week.
They did this contest and you had to go through their site in order to find the auction that "matched" the clues given. (Did you all see that contest?) I say "matched" because the clues never seemed to match the solutions. Everyone was complaining. And to make it worse, the site was awfully slow, choked up by scavengers looking for auctions. It all came to a halt when the 8 day contest was over.
Anyway, sales dropped drastically for many I spoke to on the forum. People got fed up with eBay and their "we're really just a small community in the larger community" antics and left. Lots left actually. People stopped buying. And pretty much since then, selling there has not worked.
I don't mean to discourage anyone here. I just think that people will value your work if you sell by word of mouth and through your own community. Again, it's all just my opinion.

I sell a lot of crochet items on Ebay(ebay name one_white_iris). I have probably made somewhere around $1000-1200 CAD since starting to sell them last summer. There are quite a few tips and tricks, and it is a market which requires you to be flexible. I am in the process of wirting a blog article about selling crochet on Ebay based on my own observations. I will let ya'll know when it's published.

Ive sold lots of stuff on Ebay everything from crochet items, toys, jewelry, glass ware, collectables etc....
The sale of each item all depends on how much someone wants it.
I sell my crocheted items right on my porch like a garage sale and do so much better than ebay. The charges on ebay are higher now and for certain items its not worth it because your just coming out even...People like to see the product so lots of pics are good but if you dont have too much money as they charge for each additional photo after the 1st, it can be costly at the end. Then you have to pay them to list it then pay them for selling it so in the end they get a big chunk of your sale. Then if you use paypal (which ebay runs) they also charge you so who is making the money?

One Ebay tip, for those of you who sell actual items (not patterns) is putting up your auction between 12:00pm and 3:00pm eastern s. time on a Saturday. First of all, saturday is the best day. Ebay has reported most sales on this day. Secondly, you want to get them up between those times because you want to catch the west coast bidders when they're first getting up, but before lunchtime. Putting up an auction and having it end let's say on a Sunday afternoon isn't going to garner as many bidders (unless they've opted to eSnipe the auction) because people are out enjoying their day if it's nice. During the work week, people are more likely to forget too. Also, taking your time and getting a good pictures goes a long way.
Case in point: my fiance sold something for a friend of his. He put his item up, and hours later someone else did too. The other person's picture wasn't good. My fiance's WAS. The item in question was a unique piece of studio gear and they were the only two of the kind up then (funny coincidence). My fiance got bids immediately, the other guy didn't. And it went like that the whole time. The difference was the quality of the picture, and the detail of the listing.
Hope that helps.

I have just started selling on ebay. I put up for bid the infamous "Boobie Pillow".
I sold them (had two posted) for $19.99 each. :lol

Yeah, I noticed the difference. The second one that I posted sold in the first 24 hours from posting (it was on the weekend I believe). One Ebay tip, for those of you who sell actual items (not patterns) is putting up your auction between 12:00pm and 3:00pm eastern s. time on a Saturday. Hi,
I have been selling my crochet patterns on Ebay for about a year. (Mostly poncho and shawl patterns)
While the volume is not huge....the exposure is terrific.
Since most of my patterns and books are sold via distributors and contract agreements...(lots of middlemen involved).....I find Ebay a great way to actually CONNECT with the end user. It's also fun when you take some time to get to "know" your Customers.
I have placed no restrictions on selling the items they produce using my patterns....but instead....inspire people to profit from their love of crochet and the hard work they put into it. In fact....two of our full time crocheters originated from Ebay Customers.
The key is having an item or items that can become your regular inventory...while attracting new buyers with special low priced bid auctions.....this will ultimately have them checking out your STORE......and eventually...coming back for more.
I have just a little over 925 positive feedbacks....but what I look at the most......a total of 1600 positive feedback. That means almost 700 people purchased at least twice!

This thread is really interesting. I have sold other things on ebay but not my craft work. I always assumed that people won't go to ebay for handmade stuff.

I tried selling ponchos on ebay and they bombed. However the same ponchos were flying off the racks at my resale shop. I sold 50 within 3-4 weeks! I had great pictures too. Not one sale. It was so not worth the hassle.
However, after reading the tips here I might try again...

I tried to sell a homespun poncho (granny style) and I had one watcher, no bids, lol! I haven't tried again though. But I will tell you that I sold some yarn and I was blown away at how many bids I got on them! I made more money selling yarn than what the end result was. Go figure. Maybe I will get into the yarn selling business, lol!

Ok, so far I haven't had sucess selling crochet on Ebay, but I only just tried to list the hat I made. I have had sucess as of late with custom postcards.
I wasn't getting ANY bids for awhile and I consulted the Seller's Forum....I was advised to offer a couple of 99 cent auctions, that would draw people in and help to get bids on my higher priced items. I sold five items in a week's time using that strategy and all but one of the 99 cent auctions sold for higher than 99 cents lol.
You may try doing something that would be memorable for people, like a baby blanket or kid's hats, things parents would want to save. Try starting something small like booties out for 99 cents and have a blanket listed higher. The same parent buying that bootie set may leap all over the blanket too!
:cheer Check my ebay store out..it's not too exciting but you see I haven't gotten bids on the hat yet.
