Hi all!

I have it in my head that I really want to make a blanket with Baby Clouds (super bulky weight) and Red Heart Soft (worsted weight) together somehow. Does anyone know of a pattern that I could somehow mix these two weights together and still get something pretty? I don't necessarily mean holding the strands together, just something where the contrast of the yarn textures is obvious but pretty.

Just so you know, the Baby Clouds yarn is pink, the Red Heart yarn is black, this is going to be for an infant, and I am still a beginner in the art of crochet.

Now, that I've made it impossible, we'll see what you experts come up with. I appreciate your help!

Why not do popcorns interspersed with a background of black? Crochet a chain the width of the blanket with the black. work it in your stich, like a dc or sc, then randomly or with a plan, place popcorns. Similar to the ABC blanket that uses puff stitches.

Maria - I appreciate you trying to help me! However, I am still really new at this and don't quite understand what you are saying. How do I add a chain of another color into a blanket? And how do I make popcorn stitches? And what is an ABC blanket?

No problem, Amy! Here is the pattern for the ABC blanket

For my suggested blanket. Just hold the contrasting yarn on top of the row of background. When you want to work a popcorn , before you make your last yarn over with the background color, pull the contrasting yarn through to complete the stitch. You will then have the new yarn color on your hook.

If you have play around yrtn in your stash, try it out first with a small swatch.

Hi Amy, Welcome.
Here's a page that helps explain popcorns:

Here is another idea. Make a mesh and then weave your cloud yarn through the holes. This super easy.

Baby Clouds is thick and kind of hard to work with and won't show a lot of fancy stitching. I think I'd do something very simiple, like back and forth double crochet or a v-stitch:

For the black, I'd hold two (maybe three) strands together to pump up the thickness a bit and make it easy on myself. You'll still get the contrast you're looking for.
You could try it with out doubling the black and see if you like that. Might be interesting.

I would suggest holding 2 or 3 strands together too.

Baby clouds is difficult to work with. the sizes of the different yarns will not work out to be the same amount of stitches.

I think the mesh in black and weaving thru the baby clouds is probably your best idea. Trying to work both into a pattern will cause more headaches than it's worth.
