My sister is graduating in May and is going to be in a nursing program in college so I am wanting to make her some nursing related stuff. Any ideas about what would be good and any patterns?

I'm still not very advanced but if I start now I should be able to figure out some that might be a little above my level. Thanks so much.

Some of the nurses I know have little cozies for the ends of their stethoscopes so they aren't so cold on the skin. Don't have a pattern though.....

a stethoscope sock would be nice. it would fit over the tubing so that it is more comfortable around her neck. otherwise a nice pair of comfy socks or throw to use after her long hours of clinicals or while studying.

Thanks for those ideas. I'll have to find a pattern for the stethoscope sock. An afghan would be a great idea but I don't know if I can get one finished in time!

If you use a big hook, bulky yarn and an open pattern you can finish an afghan really fast. Check out some of the 5-1/2 hour afghan patterns on Lion Brand's website. She will love whatever you make for her!

Have you checked out the Happy Hooker book by Debbie Stoller? She has a bag that is called "fashion first aid" & its on page 145 of the book. Its a red bag with a white cross in the middle of it. Very cute!!

she will be wearing a name badge so a lanyard would work. also a drawstring waist pouch to hold shears, etc while wearing scrubs.( ooh a pouch with a red cross on it). if she has long hair , hair ties to keep her hair up. comfy slippers to slip into after a long shift on her feet.

Thanks! I didn't even think of the red cross stuff! duh. I'll have to see if my library has the happy hooker book.

Hair ties would be good although from one day to the next I never know what length her hair will be. Or what color! lol

Is it going to be cold where she's at? Maybe some fingerless gloves so she can type/write/study and keep her fingers free but her hands warm.
How about a shawl or lapgahn. So if she gets a bit cold studying she can put those on her.

How about a headband to hold her hair back, then if it's short, she can still put it back and if it's long she can do that too. Great for when washing your face.

How about some washclothes with some nice bath items in a basket? Maybe include some slippers with that.

How about a bag or purse? maybe a white purse?

A headband would be a great idea so would the wrist warmers although in W. TX its not often too cold. She's really trendy and hip. Okay not trendy at all she hates trends but very...funky...original. I don't know, anyway something like that would be great though. Thanks.

You could get her an American Girl doll (or any 18 inch doll) and make her the nurses outfit and Florence cape designed by Darski.

Ode To Florence & Cape pattern (nurses outfit with hat & Cape (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50518&highlight=Darski)

My daughter is in nursing school and I'm in the process of making this outfit for her. She'll love it!

My Mom always had a little clip-on bear on her stethoscope to keep the little ones attention. I know there are some patterns out there from old Annie's crochet newsletters. If you are interested, I'd be happy to dig through and see what I can find!

You could also make a basket and fill it with things like lotion, hand sanitizer, etc. These would be very welcome. Good luck. I'm sure that she will love anything that you give her.
