View Full Version : Fundraising and Solicitation Guidelines

We have had several incidents where members want to use Crochetville to publicize their efforts to raise funds for a friend or family member in severe financial need (cancer, other illness, loss of job, etc). While we wish we could help these members out, the admin team feels a responsibility to all of our members to protect them from potential financial scams. The admin team would feel obligated to check out each and every request to make sure funds were being raised legally and were actually being used for their intended purpose. (Yes, we believe most members would be truthful with us, but they may not have access to full and complete information about fundraising efforts they wish to promote.) It's very likely we all know someone for whom funds are being raised, and if even a small percentage of our members wanted to publicize their efforts here, you can see how quickly the admin team would be overwhelmed trying to verify information.

Regretfully, we must announce that we cannot allow the Crochetville forum (posts, PM, emails sent through the forum) to be used to solicit funds for or discuss private fundraising efforts for individuals.

Posts relating to private fundraising efforts will be removed. If you receive a PM or email sent through the forum in which another member discusses/promotes a private fundraising effort, please forward it to AmyS or Donna so we can handle the situation.

It's okay to mention general fundraising efforts like "Girl Scout cookies are being sold now!" or "Don't forget this is the week for the Boy Scout food drive" or "Support the Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Telethon."

If you want to mention a specific fundraising event (such as you want to ask for sponsors in a walk to support breast cancer) for a 501(c)3 charitable organization, please submit your request via PM to Donna (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/member.php?u=1) or AmyS (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/member.php?u=102). You must provide us with complete contact information for the charity (name, address, phone, contact person, website if available, etc.). Monies raised must go directly to the charity and not to you. Since we have members from all states here, we must be careful that any fundraising event posted complies with all the laws and statutes regarding charitable solicitation across state lines. (Yes, such laws exist, and they're different in every state! They're very complicated, and some states impose heavy fines when their laws are violated!)
