Ok the only patterns I see for balls are all very small balls.. with very small hooks.

I am looking to make a ball that is bigger and uses thick yarn (so hopefully it would go fast)

so hopefully I can find one that uses .. like thick n quick... it wouldn't be used for anything that would rip it apart.. Its for my daughter who likes to roll balls all over the house and hold them all day.. she losses all the small ones I have made for her.

I know you saying.. well thats easy.. just make one up.. but I am really good at reading patterns.. Just can't go at something free form yet.

Thanks.

It doesn't sound silly - I find that it's easy to get something like that lopsided!

When making a ball without a pattern, the trick is to count each row, and then when you hit the center, make the top the same as the bottom, only in reverse. Use stitch markers - safety pins would be fine - and jot down your count so that you don't have to recount over and over.

Sorry, but I don't have a ball pattern in my library that I know will work well, but there is a pattern here: http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/toys.php

Good luck!

What about one of those baby grab balls. They're pretty neat. I have never made one, so I don't know how quickly they work up, but I like them

How small are the small balls? You could use the pattern, but instead of thread and a tiny hook, use worsted weight or even bulky yarn and a larger hook.
I have a thread teddy bear pattern, he sits about 4" or so in thread, but when I use worsted and one strand of eyelash and an H hook, he's more than twice the size, about 11" tall, to give you an idea of the size difference.

I made that grab ball in worsted weight and an H hook and it came out a bit smaller than a basketball but larger than a cantaloup! LOL! :lolHope that helps! She will LOVE it! So easy for small hands to hold! Sort of along the same lines.........
