A gal at work wants a hand crocheted wedding dress, I saw a pattern in the NEW Crochet! Magazine and took it to her, and she wanted to know if I could find any other patterns, I would prefer just pictures to show her until she choses what she wants, she remembers her Aunt getting married in a hand crocheted gown, and has ALWAYS wanted to get married in one, she doesnt have a date set yet or anything, but wanted to "shop around" for designs, and the price it wouold take to buy the materials, and all that, and NO I don't know that I am going to be making it, whew!!! If she gave me a 2 year notice maybe...lol
any links pleasee?

Here are a couple of dress patterns that I think are nice, don't know if they would qualify as wedding dress material, but I am not sure what she is thinking of...
If you google some key terms, you might find some things she might be looking for, soes she have any info on her grandmother's dress to give you an idea what she is looking for?
There was a lovely pattern from an archived source that I found when I googled "crochet gown pattern", because of the archived nature, I cannot post a link, but maybe you'd want to try those search terms. I linked to it from here, it was the Organdy Ribbon Dress

How about this dress?
http://*****************/web/20060219033255/http://www.medidit.com/free/freeribbon.html
I think it would look real nice as a wedding dress and of course make it to where the dress is floor length.
OK for some reason the link will not work once this goes thru.. Its the ORGANDY RIBBON DRESS and you can find the link on crochetpatterncentral...

mmm....Jobug, let me know if you find anything interesting...of the ideas I told you about...a crocheted wedding dress was one of the original ideas but I had not found a pattern I loved so I scratched the idea.

Before you start on this crochet project, are you going to get a 50% deposit up front?

I have a magazine that has a crocheted wedding dress and ensemble in it, but it is visiting a friend of mine here in the park we are in. As soon as I get it back I will get you some pics and info.

Interweave press, kniting wear daily, has links to free crochet patterns, and one is the lace dress pattern from Lily Chin. It's at least worth a look!

I don't have a pattern in mind, but you might consider looking at patterns for dressy tops in thread that might be turned into a bodice over a satin gown...would also be a little less work if you are the one commissioned to make it. :)

OK for some reason the link will not work once this goes thru..
Because it's against the rules to post a link to that site due to copyright issues.
Here's the rules, especially number nine:

As for wedding dress, look at other dresses besides wedding dresses.
This dress in last issue of Crochet Today is pretty:

There's been several in Crochet! that might work. A change of color, maybe a few other changes and you could have a beautiful dress.

You know, for some reason this has been on my mind. I am not getting married, nor do I know anyone close who is, but I've had this erge to make a dress. Not sure how I would do it, or what kind of pattern I would use. I love the previously listed $15 one, but I don't know, it would probably take me to long.

You might be surprised how fast it might take to make it...some projects that I've done I thought it would take me the better part of six months and they got whipped out in like a week...other times, what should have taken me a week would take 5 months...

Totally LOVE the Victorian Wedding Gown in the second quote and love the Vintage gown (and I think it's crochet...) from the first quote...awesome.

Just a word of advice from someone who worked in a graphic designer/stationery store for years, dealing with brides firsthand:
something funny happens to many otherwise-sensible women when they start planning a wedding. Namely, they go nuts. They lose the run of themselves, as we say in Ireland. It has to be a PERFECT day, everything has to be PERFECT, because it is all about HER and it is accepted practice that everyone bend over backwards to please the bride. Everything has to match the elusive mental image they have in their mind and cannot verbalize to the other human beings who must interpret their inner wishes - which are generally in a state of rapid flux. If you are unlucky, Bridezilla could be accompanied by a flutter of opinionated bridesmaids/sisters/aunts/mother and then you will have not one, but half-a-dozen crazy women to please! :lol
I would only crochet a wedding dress for myself. I would foresee hours and hours of consultation and fittings, not to mention all the frogging and re-crocheting. Please note: I am getting married in August and, after looking at a few patterns and estimating the amount of work that would go into it FOR MYSELF, I decided against it!

I got the magazine back from my friend. This is found in the March 2003 issue of Crochet! It also includes other accessories like a Ring Pillow, Bookmark, Wedding Album, and a Romatic Filet tablecloth.
