My son wants an afghan, he's 10 yrs. old...I have camoflauge yarn...what pattern can I use to make a nice but masculine afghan. I have looked and looked all over the net...and can't find one that I think he'll like. :help

With camo yarn I usually use a plain single or double stitch and the camo makes it's own design,

I was going to suggest Red Heart's free Aran pattern, but y'know, in camo the stitch detail wouldn't show well. You could do a stair-step pattern and edge oit in deep green or one of the other shades in the camo. I see a few patterns on freepatterns.com that would work. If you have the Annie's Attic mile a minute book, Amish Splendor would look macho with camo panels and dark edging (any of the colors in the camo), and it would be warm and dense.
Of course, while I was over there I found a couple more patterns I HAD to download, like I needed to make anything else...:D

I agree for camo you really want something plain and simple.
You could do something like this Strip Throw :

Pick one color from the camo to use as the accent around.
Be sure to use the hook size for your yarn, not the P in the pattern. :)

If you just want to do simple rows back and forth I read somewhere that variegated and camo yarns work up best if you do hdcs.:hookThis also makes a nice design/texture with the stitches. You can also make a RR doing chamo yarn for a few rounds and then working a round or two with a color that is in the chamo colors. Did you see this RR made in blue variegated yarn with added squares to make extra points? It would look nice in chamo green too!

The 1st is a regular round ripple.
The 2nd is a rectangular granny sq. The center is dc's and the outer parts are done in trc's. (I was in a time crunch but I like the way it changes the colors)

I made my son a camo ripple afghan. I used a dark green and sand color yarn (along with the camo) and did a ripple afghan for him. He loves it. My son is 26 years old and is currently on his second deployment in Iraq. He has taken his 'blanket' with him on both deployments! The colors blend well together, too.

WOW!! these afghans are just stunning!!:clap:clap I have never crochet with camo yarn!! It is amazing? How many skeins are needed to make something like these? Did you use one or two strands? :ty
