I have not been able to find the pattern I want...I am looking for a cape that buttons in the front. I did find the half moon shawl on Lion's web site http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/70006A.html and I like the looks of it

Do you think if I made the shawl as instructed with the exception of the first join and added rows to make it longer, it would turn out? Basically, I would not be making it in the round, rather rows. Then at the end, I could add the buttons to close the cape/shawl in the front???

Thanks

I made that pattern, it is done in rows. at some point you would have to stop increasing the length of the rows and make it straight, or it would have a huge hemline measurement.

If you make it in the round, you won't need buttons to close it, it will be closed... like a poncho... or am I reading it wrong...:think unless you mean to add buttons to the top first rows which will be open, then I think you could do that.

But if the one you made seems like it will close, you could add buttons to one and made some button loops if you need to (some stitches are big enough you don't need to do that--at least with me).

Maybe take the one you've made, pin it together, except the top rows, and see how it looks and if that's what you would want.

This doesn't answer your conversion question, but here's a cape that buttons up the front, and has solid and lacy rows sort of like the half moon pattern... .
