Well, I don't have a pattern per say, but I have an idea. Here is what I would try first.....

Make a figure 8 harness......ch enough so that you can wrap it around rats neck, then cross it and wrap around rats girth (behind front legs) Also leave enough for you to tie it, unless you think you can handle sewing some sort of clip to the ends. The only problem here would be it wouldn't be too adjustable. I would then slip st this. Make a leash....whatever length you think you may need, slip st this also, at the end of leash connect end approx. 5 sts in. (you want to make a small loop for the harness to go through) Now, at the other end, connect it to make a handle.

To connect the harness to the leash, feed one end through small loop on leash, then feed the opposite end from other direction. This should form a loop that will get smaller as you pull the ends. This loop goes over the rats head. The left over ends are what goes around the girth and then ties.

Hopefully this made sense, and now that I think about it, I bet there is a pattern for this somewhere.....:blush

Just as a heads up, I'm a long time rat owner and it's nearly impossible to keep a harness on a rat. Their legs are too little and they slip out easily. Any harness that was tight enough to keep them from doing so would be inhumane, so I really wouldn't recommend making a harness for a rat.

Rats are intelligent enough to be taught to stay on your shoulder to be carried around with you, so there is no need for a harness with proper training anyway. :]

If you ever need any advice about rat care or have any questions please feel free to PM me.
