I just got 4 pounds of the most perfect shade of light purple in Caron! Now I can finally get started on making MY ghan.
Hopefully, you guys can help me find the perfect pattern!
I'll look at anything you throw at me here! I'll know it when I see it. That seems to be how I find all my 'perfect' patterns!
Thanx in advance!
*****I've since decided that I'm looking for a solid (not lacy) ghan. I like all the ones I've listed below (to make it easier to keep going back to them) There are lots more links in this thread tho.

That is really, really pretty! Is it done on the narrow or the long edge?

That one is pretty. This one (http://www.therockingchair.us/squareeleganceafghan.html)is one of my faves, but 'tis a yarn hog.

I don't know if you have the pattern, but it was on the back of the Wal Mart yarn and it was called light and lacy afghan. I don't have any pics of it, I have given them all away. It works up very fast.

I know the picture doesn't show it, but the Indian Summer wrap (http://promotions.drgnetwork.com/newsletters/talkingcrochet/pages/TCNL2605_pattern.html) has a floral look to it. And it's perfect for our weather. I made this queen size and use it as a comforter. I'm pretty sure I have a picture of it on my blog (http://throughthepriszm.blogspot.com), and I know I've posted a picture on here someplace.

This is the link for a CAL for the afghan that Aekmv suggested: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63013
It is done on the long edge. On mine I took off the puffs. That way it will use up less yarn.

Soooooo pretty!!!! This is going to be a hard choice!
This one (http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Crochet/Projects/AfghansThrows/LW1388+Shadow+Box+Throw.htm) has always been one I want to make.

Yarn hogs are OK. I've got 4 Caron Pounders! heehee :)
Right now the Lilac one and the square elegance are kinda tied. The light and lacy is pretty - I have about a dozen of those floating around my back room lol.
I guess I'm looking for something solid and warm to curl up under when it's actually cold enough to.
I can't wait to see more suggestions!

I think the summer lilacs one is the perfect choice! Especially since the yarn is purple :) I am sure whatever pattern you decide on it will be lovely.

I think that since you will be useing only one color, you need to use fancy stitching to make it interesting. Hope you find something you like, and I am looking forward to seeing what you decide to make and how beautiful it will turn out!

Thanx for all the links!!!!! It's like Christmas around here!!! Hubby thinks I'm nuts - I told him I'm huntin' patterns. I found the perfect color - now i NEED to find a pattern for it. He just shook his head and says "don't you have enough patterns already? you need to find more?!?"

Well, so far hubby likes the branches and berries best but it's all sc (and sc makes my hands cramp something fierce) and the summer lilac.
I'm kinda torn between the summer lilac and the basketweave.
Does anyone have any more ideas?!?

You can check out some pretty filet patterns and make panels out of them and then join the panels.

There isn't a full-size afghan on view of this pattern, but I bet it would look really pretty: http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa070498.htm .
Hope this helps!

In the filet panels idea, there was an Annie's Attic Free Pattern on Feb 6 this year called French Provincial designed by Carol Alexander from the book "Blue Ribbon Crochet", but it is lacy rather than snuggly...
It is the afghan in the lower left corner of the book cover here:
http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Ribbon-Crochet-Carol-Alexander/dp/1592170714/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1210157983&sr=8-1

I printed the French Provincial when they had it as a pod.
I know I'm looking for a solid ghan.
I actually started looking at some of the aran ghans but they're all knit! It makes sense with all the raised stitching that they'd be lighter in knit. PH has a pretty aran but she uses bulky yarn- I want to use my I hook.
Thank you everyone for all of your suggestions! You've all given me great ideas and shown me ghans I've never seen before! You guys are great!

Have you looked at freepatterns.com ?
http://www.freepatterns.com/list.html?mode=list&offset=0&limit=21&status_id=A&criteria=afghthrw
They have one called classic aran afghan in crochet that you might like.
(and it calls for an I hook too)

I was going to suggest the summer lilacs throw, but it seems others already have. (I am actually using caron pounders for mine.)
Something else you might consider is one of the cable throws from this (http://www.anniesattic.com/crochet/detail.html?prod_id=22313) booklet at Annie's Attic. I haven't tried these, but this is on my list of patterns to buy :)

That's exactly the kind of ghan I'm looking for (in the book)
Maybe I'll search the knit aran's and come up with my own. I haven't come across too many patterns for crochet aran's tho.

I don't know if you have seen this one yet, and i apologize if somoene has already gave the link, but it's a aran one with cables. I know - I already printed it!!!!! I just LOVE that braid joining! That's just gorgeous! Maybe I'll end up making one in strips and join them with that braid.

Just wondering if you have made any decisions yet?
RoseRed
May 15, 2008, 05:25 PM
Well, I've decided that it's going to be a fisherman/aran type of ghan. I've chosen some of the stitches I'm going to use. I think I'll be doing it in strips since I found an awesome join that i want to use.
But no - I have made any final decisions yet other than I have a beige/brown ghan to make for Dad and I might practice on that one first.

Well, I've decided that this is going to be my crochet olympics challenge.
It'll be an Aran/Fisherman in Lilac of my own design. So far - that's all I have.
