View Full Version : Upcoming Forum Downtime
Donna
May 3, 2008, 10:38 PM
Crochetville will be down for maintenance soon, possibly as early as tomorrow (Sun, May 4) but more likely some time within the next week. Downtime may be an hour or two. Our forum software has put out a major upgrade and we would like to get it installed as soon as possible.
The biggest change Crochetville members will see after the upgrade is a complete revamp of the User Profile page. There are many other enhancements, many of them behind-the-scenes stuff that makes running the forum easier.
I don't have an exact date and time because I can't always schedule a large uninterrupted block of time in advance. When you have a young child, you have to take the time alone when you can get it! :lol
The forum may be down an hour or two once I begin. This is a much more complex upgrade than any we have done in the past, so I'm less sure of how long it will take. Once the forum is closed, there will be a notice on the home page stating when the downtime began and expected return time.

I just noticed in Off Topics that quite a few of our conversations seem to have disappeared, such as the fibro thread and the recipe exchange oh and the birthday wishes as well,is this due to the upgrade? :think

Nothing will be lost when we upgrade. That is one of the reasons upgrades take a while, we need to make sure everything is backed up. We do regular backups, but want to be extra, extra sure we have up-to-the-second backups before upgrading.
Were you logged out when you couldn't see those threads? Off Topic is only visible to registered users.

Donna

No, I'm afraid it didn't go well. The forum is fine, but I hit some unexpected snags and I wasn't able to do the upgrade. I will have to try again later.

Are the Private Messages coming back? I had nearly 40 of them I was saving and they're now gone!!
If I had known they were gonna disappear I would've saved them on my harddrive. O Woe is Me. :)

The database is backed up, so nothing is gone. Restoration can be done if necessary. However, none of my private messages are gone. Is anybody else having this problem? I people can say yes or no, that will help me know if this is a widespread or individual problem.

Hey, the re-vamped page you see when you click a member's username is neat!! (I clicked on my own.) I did lose a few referrals, I noticed, but no biggie. It's nothing I'm concerned about.
Donna
May 8, 2008, 08:43 AM
Yes, vBulletin did a total overhaul of the user profile page, from the ground up. And I like how you can click on your own user name at the top of the forum to go to your own user profile page! I'll be working with the profile pages a bit to customize things for us at Crochetville.
Thank you for letting me know about the referrals, Rachel. I will check into it.
Everybody, keep letting me know :yes about any changes you have questions about, or anything that doesn't seem quite right since the upgrade.

Ok.. I figured it out. My PMs don't show up in the same place as before.. but I can find them.
Weird.. now the ones I haven't read are called "Notifications".. but I guess I can get used to that. :::grin:::
I shouldn't post when I'm sleep deprived.. sorry about the minor panic attack.

The PMs are in the same place: in the upper right hand corner above the navbar. But if you have new PMs, it will show Your Notifications (instead of Private Mesages), then click on the dropdown arrow to the right of that and it will show the number of unread private messages as well as any other type of notifications you have. The reason it says Your Notifications now is because forum admins have the option to add other notifications for specific purposes.
After you have read all your PMs and any other notifications, the upper right hand display above the navbar will be the same as before: Private Messages: Unread 0, Total X (X being the total number you have).

I keep having to log in again every so often. And it's not because I leave the site and come back. wonder why that is Was this happening before the upgrade, or is it a new problem? Do you check the Remember Me box when you log in? (This fixes the problem for some people.) We occasionally have reports of this and the answer is usually a problem with the individual browser or computer settings. Can you tell me which browser (and version, if you know it) you are using?

I came on just before the downtime. :eek There was a big notice it was in 5 minutes, so I just did a U turn and scooted right back off. :lol :lol :lol I'm back now at 2 in the morning and figured it would be a good idea to stop here first to see if people are having any glitches. It looks good Donna! :yay
