I also have to pick yarn for my crinoline doll but I have printed that pattern already.

I am off to a great started glad I have single crochet stitches I can do those in my sleep the hard part is the cross stitching while I follow the graph part that is the part that gets me. I think I will do 10 rows then start the cross stitching then 10 more rows then cross stitching I think it would work up faster that way. Go Team Afghan GOOOOO.:)

I've been posting on my Team Accessories thread. I had an appt to go to late this morning. DH drove so I was able to crochet to and from the meeting. I got 2 squares done on my bag then, but may not use one as it looks sad. I have managed to make 2 more squares and am in the middle of one more. This seems to be working up faster than I thought, so I may need to make anothern bag. We will have to see when it come to the assembly and lining parts.

I won't be able to start until tomorrow because I totally forgot one little thing! Since I'm making something with 3 strands of thread held together and didn't want the thread to get all tangled up, my DH has actually made me (out of old Folgers cans) individual yarn containers. I originally had one which he made me a couple of years ago and totally forgot to have him make me 2 more until this morning. You need overnight for the glue to cure so it'll be tomorrow before I can use them. Fingers crossed that I have no problems with my pattern. I think I worked like 5 swatches in all during training and still never got the exact right size so we'll see how my circle jacket turns out! LOL

Can't wait til the Team Wearables Thread starts up!!!

Hi,
Is it to late for me to join the 2008 Crochet Olympic Games of Ancient Greece? Please I want to get in on this. I will be crocheting a lap throw. The name of the pattern is "Wavy Stitch Shell". The yarn I'll be using is Red Heart/Acryllic. Why it's a challenge; because lining my shells up for me has always been a problem-I hope I can get it this time. The book I'm using is, Encyclopedia of Crochet, by Donna Kooler-page 144.
If not I do understand. But I just wanted to check since this is the beginning night. Thank you anyway it goes. :)

This is so much fun!!! I needed motivated to get this project started, but now the yarn feels so soft and silky, and my family is cheering me on and taking over a lot of my chores so I can concentrate -- can we have these games all year long? :hook I'd much rather crochet than do housework!

I tivoed the Opening Ceremonies last night and watched them this morning FFwind through the boring parts. All in all I thought they were specactular! BTW, you don't need to have cable persay to watch the olympics as long as you get NBC you can watch. They don't carry every single thing but they carry the majority of the stuff, esp the major stuff. Lucky for me they carry all the gymnastics which is my fave part of the summer games!!!

I got started on my Drops Circle Jacket this morning and I'm quite impressed with how good it's coming so far. I have never made a project with thread like this before, esp while holding 3 strands together at once so it is a bit challenging but I really love the way it looks! I picked 2 skeins of a cream/beige color and one skein of white and the way they all intertwine is very nice. I'm already up to Round 11 and will start my armhole shaping soon, that's where it's going to get tricky...

P.S. Any word yet on whether there will be a "Team Wearables" thread???

Carla J
August 9th, 2008, 03:43 PM

After frogging the lapghan several times I finally came up with the pattern as per Yarncat's Diamond Lapghan pics. I've completed about 15 rows so far. Will post pic sometime later.

Hoping to get more done but my arm is hurting bad from so much crocheting that I've done these past days. But gotta get it done....at least one of my challenges is done....figuring out the pattern:clap

My goal was to make a swatch of a new stitch and a sketch of an original garment design each day.

I decided that I could do more the next day to catch up if I didn't get things done one day, but that I could NOT make extra ahead of time so I could goof off later. So far I've been able to surpass my goals, but that was over the weekend--let's see what happens during the work week. I'm keeping a positive attitude!

Ok, I'm starting to think that maybe I shouldn't try an afghan with blocks. I think I'm gonna go ahead and switch to something doable and something that needs to be done.

Drum roll please....
I'm gonna copy one of the gals here and make a tub full of crochet items to sell at a local craft fair. I seriously need to get more done and I'm getting no where with it.

I'd still like to be a individual competitor though.

Thanks

Started my cardigan today. :clap

It's going pretty well. The real challenge is the 90 degree turns. What's challenging about them is that up until now I have been making star shaped afghans and granny squares so I have to remember to chain one instead of two when I turn a corner.

The other challenge for me will be to actually finish the sweater.

Well, I am done crocheting for today. I think I made a good start. I am going to go now. The Closer is coming on.

:hookKeep on hooking.

Got a little bit done but enough that the pattern is showing up nicely. I've done about 25 rows or so out of about 120. I don't know how big I'm making it since I'm not working off a pattern but figure about 8 - 10 diamonds horizontally. I'm using LB WoolEase in SportWeight. The color is Dark Heather Rose...I think :think

Gee..I forgot I could post in here.. I've been posting in the baby team forum..but anyways I finished mine today! It is a 3 pc outfit! Here a few pictures of it. I was going to give it to a friend of mine..but it is so cute on my little gdd..that I am giving it to her! Guess I will just have to make another one for my friend! Hope you all like it! I had to change my needle size and add more ruffles to get the length for the skirt! But all in all it came out cute I think!

*As the announcer voice comes over the speakers .... the referee hits the stop watch and Tammy jumps up from her 'Game Chair' and screams, "TIME"! She as completed the first of the two 12 point round Prayer Blankets she has committed to for the Crochet Games of Ancient Greece.
It turned out great... nice color combination ... and being just shy of 4' its a good size for a small child.
She will be taking a break on the side-lines for a few minutes as notes are being taken .. scores are being added.... inspection of the blanket for flaws or lose ends.... and yarn scraps are cleared for the next round.

The Call from the Officials..................

ITS GOOD!!! The blanket is complete... no lose ends.. no flaws... great colors... nice shape... and good size.
Time for this blanket...
start: 8 Aug. 2008 - 8:08am
finish: 13 Aug. 2008 - 12:24pm

Tammy will be starting her second blanket in 30min.

I just wanted to pop in here and post my progress. I'm on Team FA Awareness and Team Sissie44's Seniors.

For FA Awareness I'm making two hat and scarf sets for an October auction. I've completed one set and the hat from the other set.

For Sissie's seniors I'm doing the Windwalker lapghan from Happy Yellow House. I have completed one of the four blocks for that. Here are pics.

I'm posting my official failure here! After days of struggling with my pattern, I've decided that (1) it's not very well written (I try to say this without any sour-grapy-ness, but it was unclear...) and (2) I'm not going to stop making this blanket, just going to use another pattern. I'm not sure if this makes me an official Greek Games failure, but I sure feel like a winner! I've never done such a clean job on a mountain-and-valley pattern. :c9 Feels a bit silly to post that with the amazing things other people here have done, though!

Up to 20 stars for NICU and the "Katie's blanket" is almost done. Did it in stripped of a varigated and solid --- lots of ends to weave in and then the border. Hopefully it will be done today. Not liking the pink yarn for the edges of my stars, too light and not a good contrast (bernat coordinates in white trimmed in pink). Little short on sleep with watching so much of the games on the overnight channels!

I have two (three?) more rows, the sleeves and then the buttons, which are coverable buttons, another challenge. I am afraid I may have to do some frogging because my buttonholes are not evenly spaced and I will either have to do some math:think or email the designer. I will have to email her anyway because of the mesh pattern in the sleeves.
I might not get done in time. Oh, well. Life is what happens when you are trying something new.:hook

I've finally gotten the yarn I needed to be able to work on more than just the head for my bagdelena bear... I thought I had my yarns ready but when I went to go and start on it, I discovered that the colours didn't work well at all. I have the head done and with luck today I will be able to start on the body and then I only have the skirt and ruffles to work on. I'm hoping since we have to drive to Toronto (2 hours away) to help my mom move, I might get it done by the time we get back. I'm not allowed to actually help my mom move as I had my c-section 4 weeks ago and I had to have my stitches removed yesterday when my incision became slightly infected due to the stitches not dissolving properly, I'm back on pain meds again.
I've also completed a crochet bag since the games started... http://www.stricksucht.de/anleitungen/crochetedbag.pdf but I didn't get a picture taken as I presented to my family Dr. for having taken such great care of our little family. She loves seeing all my crochet projects I'm working on while I wait at her office, so I thought I would make her a bag, and in my haste to present it to her, I forgot to take a picture of it. I'll see if I can get her to bring it in for my next appt, to get a picture of it, we both love the jewel tones I used and how it really popped with the black I used to put it all together.

Anyway, time to go check on how a toy room cleaning is progressing.
Bye for now,
Kathie

Here is my Crochetville Olympics finished afghan

Crocheted entirely while wearing a wrist brace for my tendenitis (Mispelled) LOL. It is 9 rows of 7 blocks across. I used the Fox's Young at Heart square pattern with a border on each square and simple granny's.

I hope the patriotic colors don't turn people from other countries off but I wanted to show my patriotism in a small way during the olympics.

Once I find out where we are to post the picture of the completed items I'll post it there.

When do the games end? I don't think I am going to medal because so far I have one and 2/3 slipper made, probably half of my crinoline doll, and barely any of the second set of slippers. I imagine that the olympics are coming to an end soon right? I am going to keep going today on finishing the doll and the first pair of slippers to see if I can at least get 2/3 challenge done!

So in the eastern time zone of the USA, the games end 12 hrs earlier :eek at 11:59 am.

I wanted to know exactly because I've been super busy with my son's IEP planning & college stuff for my 3 boys & I hope I can finish my Olympic project in time. I'm going to work my booty off tonight & tomorrow & give it a shot though.

I would like to go ahead and say that I will probably NOT be fininshed with my sweater by the deadline.:( As of this writing, I am still short two sleeves and five buttons. I MIGHT finish the sleeves tonight but the buttons are going to have to wait until I can get to a store that sells them. And between me and that store is the Intersection From ****.:eek
Still, I got more done than I thought I would. And I do plan to finish the sweater. I want to wear it to work.

I've never belonged to an online forum before. I read what other people write and I was just wondering. Am I writing too much?:shrug

Officially admitting that I will NOT be finishing my tote bag on time. Just not enough time and my carpal tunnel is making it impossible to crochet every day. When I do get it finished , I will still be writing up the pattern for it. :hug and good luck to everyone else.
