It's time to join your team for the Crochet Games of Ancient Greece! Please look at post 2 in this thread for the list of available teams to join.

You don't have to join a team, and there aren't any official team activities. It's just for the fun of being able to identify yourself as part of a group making similar things during the course of the games. We can have team buttons, if people want those.

Remember, signing up for a team is optional. You can also sign up as an individual competitor if you prefer (also optional).

Just post a message in this thread if you'd like me to add you to a team or the individual competitor list.

Besides - I just LOVE being teamed up with Darski :heart

We over at the Look! Up in the Sky CAL were wondering if we could possibly have a group called Team SKY? We're all really good at keeping each other motivated on a host of things and we've become really close crocheted (can't be knit ya know :lol). So if we could have a Team SKY we'd be ever so tickled :D

Hi Amy!
I am signing up for the games on the other post where you want us to post what we're making and why it's a challenge.
But I would like to be on a team - but just not sure where this would fit in???
I am making RoseRed's pattern she shared with me for the Survivor Ribbon Shawl. And it is for cancer awareness, but since I didn't see a team for that I was thinking that the pattern is mostly filet crochet - just with yarn not thread - to would it be okay to be on the Filet team???

Can I still participate? I can do it on the sidelines if not. I want to make a Haekelbeutel bag (http://www.stricksucht.de/anleitungen/crochetedbag.pdf), but may be using different square pattern to complete. This pattern was posted linked from the Haekelbeutel (Crochet Bag) CAL (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/newreply.php?do=postreply&t=78221).

I have made a tote with a flap, but not a "bag" like this. I was thinking of lining it with a pillow case. It will be a challenge looking at the assembly instructions and decifering them. I think I understand it, but what I think and actually do are sometimes to different things. I do have the materials and if this does go together fast, I may make 2 bags just to do some stash busting too.

Hi Amy! Thanks for adding me to Team FA and as an individual competitor! I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but out of the 20 scarves that I'm making only 2 of them are going to FA not all 20 as listed, does that make sense? :think

That's fine! The team designations are only to have more fun dicussing projects with people who are making something similar to your project.

I've added everyone to teams based on posts before this one.

If you want to join a team, please go ahead and post your preference in this thread so I can get you added.

You don't need to be an official part of a team----it's totally optional.

OH it would be fun to be on a team.

Does anyone want a new board member on their team? I think it would be a great way to get to know some of the really nice ladies that I see posting here :)

Or tell me where I go to look and see what the teams are.

I'm making a bag
and it's a project for my son, if that helps in deciding where I would fit in.
thanks!

ETA- now I see the teams are listed in the 2nd posting. I would fit in probably best in toys, but would also fit in in bags- so if you want to put me on both teams, I'll be like some of the other athletes and enter 2 events? :)

Ok, I'm in. I don't know what team to ask for, some of my stuff will be accessories and some will be toys. I am thinking that maybe sky will be the best team for me. Although I am not a part of that cal, this is part of a long term, tedious goal. If that doesn't work then I am happy to go independant as well.

During the olympics I will be working on items to sell at the Farmer's Market and craft shows this fall. My goal is to fill one of my plastic totes with items made from yarn and supplies I have on hand. I want to fill one whole tote--to start with I will make 10 hats, 5 scarves, and 3 bassinet purses. That is 18 items!! yikes!! It may take more than that to fill the tote and in that case I will have to fiure out what else I want to make. Everything that goes into the tote will need to be completed and ready to sell. That means ends worked, blocking if ness, buttons sewn on, purses lined--whatever finish work is required.

This isn't the most fun project I could have picked, but it is what I need to do. If I can fill one full tote I should be half way to my total inventory goal for fall of 6 totes full of stuff. That would be pretty sweet, and it would get me through several shows.

Everything I make to sell will be my own design or I have permission from the designer to sell items made from the pattern.

I would be very careful calling the crochet games the crochet O....... [ADMIN NOTE: I've edited the post/quotes here to change to "crochet games of ancient greece."]

This is what is written in the rules and general information:

Disclaimer
Although we are holding this event at the time of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2008 Crochet Games of Ancient Greece are not officially affiliated with or endorsed by the International Olympic Committee, the US Olympic Committee, or the Olympic Committee of any other country.

In 1998, Congress enacted the Olympic and Amateur Sports Act (http://www.usoc.org/ASA2000.pdf), placing restrictions (beyond what is allowed in traditional trademark law) on the use of the word "Olympics." So that the US Olympic Committee (which is very vigorous in protecting their trademarks) does not send Crochetville a cease-and-desist letter, and to enable us to continue the fun of our games without disruption, we must ask that you not refer to the 2008 Crochet Games of Ancient Greece as the "Crochet Olympics." We have verified this by speaking on the phone with the legal department of the US Olympic Committee.

I would hate to see any one of us getting into trouble over this!!!

Is their going to be a team for Doll's Clothes? My nieces have all asked for new outfits and since the games are on late at night here, I thought I could use this as an opportunity to make some more. Grandma has also hinted that the "toy box dolls need some new outfits.

Sorry that it took a while to get back to you with the details of what I intend to make, but I have got a very sore and swollen mouth with toothache and an infection. Had to go to the Hospital yesterday morning to get some antibiotics.

I have decided that I will make one doll's dress or outfit for each day of the Olympic games - not quite sure how many that is - anyone know?

i've been having a massively hard time staying focused these past two weeks, so i doubt very much that i'll even be able to complete one quilt-ghan, let alone three. i thought that crocheting would help to take my mind off some events here in the the last two weeks. usually i can let my mind wander and still crochet, but even yesterday i noticed that i was botching things and not able to focus long enough to do much of anything. please remove me from the ancient greek games {i'm the athlete that got there, then didn't participate}. thanks so very much and have lots of fun with this, kudos to all participants and good luck!! grins, debra

Hi all, I'm just posting this in here so it's official but I've decided to pull out of the games. I wasn't aware that one couldn't change there challenge (even if it was a little more challenging). Looked in the rules and they didn't say anything about it but Amy said no way (she wasn't mean at all- just letting me know what one of the unwritten rules were-they have those in every competition). So, I'm pulling out of these games but I do plan on carrying on my own greek game sorta thing. I'll still be trying to crochet up a bunch of different things for a craft fair in a few months but I'll be updating my progress on my blog.

Just to clarify: Everyone selected a challenge BEFORE the games began. (I did allow changes to challenges up until I closed registration.) The project you specified is what will be used to judge whether you successfully completed your challenge.

I'm not sure why anyone would think you would be able to change your challenge during the course of the games, as that would completely defeat the purpose of the challenge. (Minor changes, such as to acrylic yarn instead of wool, are fine, as they change nothing intrinsic about the challenge itself. Changing to a completely different project is not.)

Everyone was instructed to pick a project that would be difficult but not impossible to complete. Of course, since it is DIFFICULT, that means that some people will not be able to complete the challenge, for a variety of reasons. That doesn't mean that anyone is a failure or anything. It just means that life got in the way and you weren't able to complete the challenge this time around. The same thing happened during the last event of this type: some people were unable to complete their projects. If you can't complete your selected challenge, it's nothing to feel bad or upset about. This was just supposed to be a fun way to celebrate the Olympic games.

The assigning of medal status would be completely meaningless if challenges could be changed mid-contest. For example, how would everyone else feel if one participant contacted me and said, "I've already started my project, but I'm switching to something a bit more do-able so I can finish and get a gold medal"?

TO BE VERY CLEAR FOR EVERYONE: The challenge that is listed by your name in the Athletes thread is the challenge you are to complete during the course of the games. Medal status will be assigned based on how much of that project you managed to complete.

ANOTHER CLARIFICATION: Any challenge changes that were given to me before the games began are completely okay. Check the Athletes thread to see what your challenge is if you have any questions.
