hello everyone I am from Calgary AB, I am a beginner, but I like it so far! I am looking for a easy baby blanket. My friend is having her first baby girl! I would like to maybe personalize it with the babys name. Thanks

Welcome! I like round ripples for baby blankets. I just finished this one: http://project-angel-kisses.150m.com/roundripple.html I'm not sure how to personalize it, though... Good luck!:clap

Hi and Welcome all the way from Texas. :clap I am fairly new here, so far it is great and I love it.

I also like the round ripple, have made several. They go pretty fast.

Welcome! I like to do a very simple afghan for baby gifts...and "ALWAYS" make it machine washable! :yes I use an "F" hook (sometimes a "G") and buy about 22-24 ozs of baby yarn, usually in multi-color. My base chain is normally around 122 chs. This varies depending on how big you want the blanket, but it needs to be a multiple of 3 chs + 2 chs. The stitch is super simple:

Row1: (sc, 2dc) in 2nd ch from hook, * skip next 2 chs, (sc, 2dc) in next ch; repeat from * across to last 3 chs, sc in last ch.

Row2: Ch 1, turn; (sc, 2 dc) in first sc and in each sc across to last sc, sc in last sc.

Repeat Row 2 until piece measures what you want! You can do a simple sc border around the outer edge...I like to do a simple shell-stitch border.

I like this stitch because it looks the same from both sides of the work. I use the multi-color thread for simplicity, but there are some very pretty ones out there.

I hope whatever you decide to do, it works out beautifully! :crocheting

I don't know of any afghans that are personalized with a name so I'm no help :( but I hope you find what you're looking for.
