type yarn.

The yarn I have is by Palette. Went to their website, but nada :(.

I'd like a short sleeve top for a big girl (I'm size 16, fyi).

HELLLLPP. :)

Try going to other sites that sell ribbon type yarn. Lionbrand for instance. You may have to wing something to get exactly what you want.

I know but I'm skurred, I'm a skeered. :lol

Neophyte crocheter here, and found out the hard way they mean business when the pattern creators say use this or that yarn :blush. Figured I'd save myself heartache if I just found a pattern created for ribbon yarn.

I am seriously thinking of taking one of my sewing tissue pattern pieces, crocheting the pieces of the top in the same shape, sewing the pieces together. Think that'll work?????

It should. Lots of people have done it and I'm hoping to try it this year. :)

There's a link to a pdf file at crochet.about.com (http://crochet.about.com/od/clothingforwomen/a/summerclothes.htm) called Ribbon Halter top. It was in the May 2006 issue of Crochet! magazine. It's about half way down the page. There are other tank top links on the page that you might find helpful as well.

I have 'winged' many a sweater for myself by laying out an existing sweater that fits nicely and measuring my new sweater against it as I go, which is sort of the sewing pattern idea...

If you use a sewing pattern, make sure you omit the seam allowance. The yarn fabric will stretch a little. (Not sure how much ribbon yarn stretches, though).

And when you say sewing the pieces together...you can whipstitch or even sc the pieces together, but don't use thread, use the same yarn/ribbon you made the sweater with, it will give and stretch the same as the crocheted fabric.

Have fun!

Ooooo, good lookin' out, G.S. 'cause I surely would have used thread. :think

Oooh, it's pretty. Good thing this size 16 woman has sense to NOT wear it. I've learned just 'cause it comes in my size don't mean I need to don a thing. ;) Lookin' for some coverage; I'm wearing it to a district convention in August. Just got a book in about freeform lace, may just take one of my tee shirts and use as a template.
