I am so bummed.

I was really sick and in the hospital with double pneumonia for about 2 weeks, I didn't go to the doctor for awhile because I thought it was just a bad cold and it would pass... (I have kids, pets) just being mom, but it got very bad and I ended up in the hospital, I have some pretty bad scarring on my lungs from it and might need inhalers forever.

But anyways.. During this whole thing. I didn't crochet.. I need a gift for my Aunt who is coming FRIDAY!! YIKES. I feel so bad because I want to give her something nice. She is a wonderful women who just retired.

I was going to make her a blanket, but i don't have time now. At first I was thinking well just do a 5 1/2 hour throw right? Nope.. I keep frogging because it looks horrible to me for some reason.

I just gave her a tun of crocheted wash cloths and bath sets for her birthday so I can't do that.. sigh! I don't know what to do.

I should also state i am NOT an advanced crocheter.. I know the basics, sc, hdc,dc,treble... but nothing super complicated!

Help please?

I don't know what to do and I am starting to panic!

First off, I need to say that I LOVE your sig line!! I LOVE nap time too! :yay

OK, now, quick little things...hmmm...maybe a little purse and fill it with some goodies, like a tissue holder, a chapstick holder, a cute little keychain, maybe a wallet.

A good little purse is this one. It only took me maybe an hour or two

This is a cute chapstick holder. Its quick too and the button is crocheted right in!:cheer

Maybe you could even make a matching water bottle holder?

HTH!

I'm sorry about you being sick. It sucks. Glad you're better though.
I'm not sure where you are or what patterns you have available to you.

One Skein Scarf is easy and quick. Even if you're in warm climate now, she can put it up for later. I've made a lot of these.

http://www.patonsyarns.com/data/pattern/pdf/instruction_1858.en_US.pdf?PHPSESSID=8b092e87d48b6 694a0e128608ac998dc

If you have the Happy Hooker book, the pattern is also in there.
Another one from there is the Fit to Be Tied purse. It's really cute and pretty fast. You do need a little fabric to line it though. An old scarf or handkerchief works in a pinch.

How about a comfort pack:

A book cover, maybe you could include a book if you know what she likes:

So sorry you've been sooo sick!!!! A pillow can work up quickly too~just pick a stitch, do two that would fit around a pillow, maybe find a few simple flowers to put on it, and sc together. Let us know what you do! (((((HUGS))))) sandi~actually have crochet written into our daily schedule at naptime too! LOL!

I made the one skien scarf listed above. It's super quick and I love it. Now if it would cool off I could wear it!

If she likes shawls this pattern (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=80272) might be a good one. It works up REALLY quickly if you use a little large hook and a bulky type yarn, or even a thinner yarn I suspect. Took me around 3-4 hours to make my first one.
It might take a little longer if you use a smaller hook and worsted weight yarn but not much longer though. It's a really good, almost totally brainless pattern.

Good luck in finding a pattern for your Aunt!!

I wanted to thank you all for all the great ideas

I in the end decided to do a BUNCH of swatches in different patterns.. I am going to give them to her so she can pick one and I will make her an afghan out of the one she chooses.

I figured its too early for hats and stuff like that.. and shes one for purses and stuff... we shall see.

There are alot of great ideas, but I just have to say that if I were in your situation, I just would go with my original idea and make up a card saying what it was to give to her, instead of trying to rush through any of these projects. The 5-1/2 hour throw probably didn't look right because it's not entirely what you had in mind in the first place. You said she was a special lady and I fear that no matter what you do, you might not be happy with anything that gets made because it's not what you originally wanted to do and you're rushing and panicky about it.

If you do get excited about any of these patterns (I didn't read through the whole thread, just the first page) take a deep breath and relax...don't try to be perfect...don't worry about what you are doing, just strive to pour as much unconditional love into the project and have faith that in the end it will be exactly what your aunt will love.

I say all of this because you've been seriously ill for a while...take it easy on yourself...don't overdo.

Hugs to you and good luck with whatever project you decide to do.

Now, I have to add one more thing...I do alot of last minutes projects, but even I have a limit with what I can do...if it's 24 hours, forget it...I can't crochet an afghan or a shawl that I would feel good about giving in that time frame. I'm fast, but I also want to give something that doesn't look like it was a last minute gift.

Two or three days, I can make magic in two or three days...a week, even more magic...but 24 hours? Even the smallest, easiest pattern will become a nightmare to me if I put myself on that kind of deadline...for me it's too much pressure.

THIS IS A WONDERFUL IDEA!!!!! I should have read through the whole thread before posting. This is awesome, this is so from your heart, and it's not last minute in the traditional sense...and in the end, after she picks which swatch she wants her afghan, you'll be pleased with your work and she'll be pleased with her afghan...Prima!

Ty I got 12 done. So she will have a good choice.. I made them all the same size and put a border on them too so she can use them for anything she wants.. dust cloths or boarders.. maybe smaller place mats to put under a vase or something.. idk.. I will give them to her tomorrow morning.

I feel really good about it.. Because its saying "theres more coming here, not just this, but I want to put the work and love into it for ya"

Why not take those squares (and more if necessary) and attach them all into one 'sampler' afghan?

I was doing my daily reading on the CALs and all these other subheadings when I came across your post. Ov course I had just been looking at this purse and thought that since you already made so many squares, this would work too...

Hope you are feeling better.
