I've driven myself crazy looking for just the right pattern, so now I'm going to hand it over to everybody else! :lol

I want what amounts to a large wide scarf. I have some really nice yarn - it's Lily Chin's Greenwich Village Yarn (http://www.bargainyarns.com/yarn/Lily_Chin_Yarn-Greenwich_Village_Yarn_FREE_PATTERN_with_purchase-4030.html). I have 6 balls of the lime green.

I was going to make Doris Chan's Blue Curacao Shawl from Amazing Crochet Lace, but the more I thought about it, the more I decided that a pashmina style would be better. Several people here helped me make that decision - (thanks all!).

Here's the crunch. I want this to be impressive. I could easily filet something up and probably be done in just a few days...but I want it to knock the recipients socks off. I saw her recently, and told her that I was making her something, but that it wasn't done yet and I'd have to mail it to her. She told me not to worry about it - we were too old to be making gifts for each other. That made me a bit indignant...kind of an "I'll show her" attitude.

I know she likes this style item, because she looked at several while we shopped. I know she likes this color, because I've seen pictures of her in a sweater this color.

I guess I should clarify that she and I live across the world from each other, and we don't see each other often. As a matter of fact, this was the first time I'd seen her in about 12 years. I know she wasn't trying to be mean when she said we were too old to be making gifts, but I have this deep need to prove her wrong! :lol

So you see? Just any pattern won't do. I need this to be impressive, even though it's a simple rectangle. I keep looking at stitches and considering them. I need help deciding what to do! I have these gorgeous balls of yarn that are just crying out to BE something.

Any ideas?

Thanks Empress!
You had a few sites I haven't looked at....
MAYBE the Gemma Scarf on NexStitch would work (without all the fringe).

I'm wondering....to those of you who have done the Sweet Pea shawl: would that stitch work up into a rectangle easily? I like that stitch, and I'd buy the pattern if I thought it would work.

Dot already has one written up into a rectangle. It's on my list of things to do

Thank you RoseRed!
Those holes are bigger than I thought, though.
Maybe I can try to work it up a little and see how it looks. Maybe with my yarn they wouldn't be so large.
I don't mind holes, but I'd rather it look lacey instead of holey - does that make sense?
Still considering that Gemma scarf...I'd have to make it wider, though....:scrachin

How about the diamond sage wrap in the new interweave crochet.

That's gorgeous! But I don't think my yarn would do that well. It's kind of a hairy yarn.
Thank you, though!

you might try searching under prayer shawls. I recently searched and made a shawl for a christmas present and found that the prayer shawls are wider and longer and not triangular in shape. I can't remember if there were alot of lacy type patterns as I was looking for something that was not lacey.
Hope this helps,
Toni

I am partial to the Long Open Shawl. I've been working on one in between other projects. Mine is with Simply Soft but that Lily Chin yarn is yummy. I'll bet it works up very nice!

The long open shawl is very pretty!
I'm going to save that pattern for future reference, but I don't think it's what I'm looking for this time. Thank you, though! :manyheart

I ordered the pattern for the Gemma scarf so that I can get a better look at it. I'm also considering using a Solomon's knot stitch. I've never used that stitch, though, so I'd have to teach myself with some scrap yarn first.

I appreciate everybody's help! :hug

The yarn is gorgeous, and I would let it speak for itself. Keep the stitch very simple and a bit open so the mohair can fluff out and do its thing. It will be a spectacular gift! Remember that Pashmina shawls are very light, so avoid any dense stitches.

That's why I'm considering the Solomon's knot.....:scrachin
