I've been looking for someone who can figure out a pattern for this for months, and to no avail. I realize that it's knitted, but knitting isn't my thing, and I'm sure it can be translated into crochet. And, no offense to American Eagle, but I'm not paying that much when I can spend five bucks on yarn and do it myself.

If anyone is willing to do this for me, I will forever owe you.

PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE.

I have a feeling that anybody who is capable of writing a crochet pattern for this is going to want to sell it! :)

Parts of that sweater would translate easily to crochet, while others are going to be more difficult.

I know, but I'm a pattern user, not maker.
It's so frustrating, because I want to make it myself so I can tell people, "Yeah, they do sell it at AE, but I made it by hand. HUZZAH!"

I tried this once on another site but nobody wanted to help me.

I tried this once on another site but nobody wanted to help me.

Please don't think nobody wants to help you - I'd help if I could! I'm not talented in that way, though.

I suggest that you look around for similar patterns. Maybe the top half is close to a pattern, and you can look at another pattern for the bottom half. Then work on blending them together.

I'm sorry, but I really don't think you'll get exactly the same result in crochet.

Oh, I know that. I wasn't expecting to. I just want something similar. I would look at it and crochet it from sight, if it were in fact a crochet pattern. The only problem is it's knit, and I suck at knitting. I can't even figure how to cast on.

I would be willing to pay or do something in return.

In that case, I'm sure you'd also give credit where credit is due, and also say that you'd followed a pattern created by another talented individual! :)

I don't think it's that nobody wants to help you. It's partly due to the fact that some of this pattern will be difficult to translate to crochet, and partly due to the fact that it would take many hours of work to create such a pattern. There aren't that many people who have that amount of spare time to create a pattern for someone else with adequate compensation for their skills, knowledge, and time involved to create the pattern.

You would probably have to pay somebody hundreds of dollars to create a pattern just for your use, if that person weren't interested in trying to sell it to other people. :)

I'm not sure if this alternative would suit you, but this is a babydoll-style pattern, and I think it is much cuter:

http://lilygo.blogspot.com/2007/03/orchid-crocheted-top-pattern-for-sale.html

You could perhaps alter the neckline and add pockets if you especially like those features on the sweater you like.

By the same designer, here is another empire-style sweater:

Good luck!

Oh, wow! Thanks for the links. I'm thinking of adding the two together. Kind of mixing and matching.

These are great, and I'm going to browse around the site some.

You're a life-saver.

Both of those are a lot better-looking than the original subject of this thread - the neckline of which looks low enough to totally expose one's assets.

My first thought was the Baby Doll Dress from the last issue of Interweave Crochet:

http://www.interweavecrochet.com/issue/2008/materials_spr08.asp

Also found in the book: Crochet Me by Amy O’Neill Houck.
The only difference is it's a pullover and not a button cardigan type thing. However the directions are pretty detailed that I'm sure you could change it if you really wanted.
Here's the issue to buy:

Book can be found at Amazon. :)

:cheer:clapGreat find Krackovianka!!!!!!!!!!! Wow these are some awesome sweaters!!! Very pretty, but I have not developed the talent to even begin a project like this, let alone design even the simplest of patterns. :lol So, needless to say, my pen and paper never comes out unless I am making notes on a pattern designed by someone else.

Good luck on your search Uncleruckus, it looks like you have some very good leads here and sorry that I am of no help to you. If you do find what you are looking for and get one made you will have to let us know what you made and even post a picture if you can.:hug

I, too, feel that the tops in Krakovianka's links are much prettier than the knitted one. That one's shape is very clumsy, and as for the depth of the neckline - I can't imagine a real woman wearing it.

I was just going to say.. thats one LOW neck line lol

I love the other links though.. very pretty!

I have found that when people ask for help in replicating an item they are expecting detailed and specific information as to yarn , hook, number of stitches and rows - which is a lot to ask, unless the other person is also interested inmaking the exact same item. However, if you want general guidelines on copying/converting a garment from a picture, I can help. Bear in mind, though, that it is impossible to exactly copy a knitted item in crochet. The two crafts are equally beautiful, but have different strengths and drawbacks.

You could wear a tank or something under it if it's too low for you. ;)

Oh, there are some GORGEOUS things there! I wish I was "experienced" enough to make this type of thing; I'll just have to practice more! ;)

OMG! If there was already a pattern for this, it'd take me YEARS to knit/make!! It is really cute tho! I'm thinking sewing it in fabric would work faster for me tho!
