Simple socks?

Okay, so I have to admit..I have a sock fetish, ****. I love them...the crazier the better. I just love the lion brand ads that featured the crazy socks with the fun fur trim. I know..nuts. And I REALLY want to make a pair for myself and my kiddos...but my fear is I will make one really great sock, but then when it comes to the second, matching sock...it will be horrible. So, does anyone have a simple sock pattern they can share?
