Welcome to the new Sky CAL
The purpose of this group is to get all those UFO’s completed and get more organized .
We will work on a point system , one month at a time .
Each month, we will start with a clean slate and clear all points awarded for the past month .
The winner of the first month will receive a small item as a prize (price $ 2- $ 3 )
If you are the winner for that month, it will be up to you to send a prize to the winner of the next month, etc. That way, one person will not have to send all prizes .
What you work on each day will be your decision .As long as you are working on ANY project, you will get points for that day, based on the scale below .
Good luck and have fun !
Point System
One point a day for POSTING .
One point a day if you answer the question of the day .
One point for each small granny square .
One point for each row or round completed on a medium project ,such as a baby afghan, shawl or sweater .
One point a day for keeping and WRITING in a crochet journal .
One point for each separate Photo you share on Photo Friday.
Rainbow points- if you are making a scrap project, one point for each color used on it that week .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Five points for each row on an adult sized afghan .
Five points - Small items completed (dishcloths ,squares over 5 rounds ,small toys, hats ,scarves ,etc )
Five points if get a thank you in the mail from someone you made an item for .
Five points for a Flat Stanley Photo
( a photo of you crocheting in an unusual spot )
5 points if you change your avatar weekly, based on the theme that week. The new theme will be announced on Friday.
You also get an extra 5 bonus points each time you change your avatar again during the week, as long as it is still in the theme we are going with that week. You can only get points for one change a day , though .
Five points if you recruit a new member to join the group .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Ten points for a preemie afghan completed .
Ten points if you give the item to someone and have a photo of them WITH the item .
Ten points if you design a new pattern to share .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
25 points for a completed afghan .
Added Bonus points – Each morning, I’ll choose a secret post number for the day . Whoever posts on that number will get 5 bonus points .
Each morning I will also write down a color of yarn. If that is the color you are using that day you get 5 bonus points.
****New & Improved ******
THE DEAD ZONE
-- if you pick ONE HOUR A DAY as your CROCHET hour-- that means no cleaning, cooking,laundry, or POSTING in here -- and dedicate that one hour to CROCHET -- give yourself 5 bonus points for that hour.
Hey Julie! You just couldn't help yourself from starting a new CAL & this was your way of feeling good about it, huh? :lol
You know i'm in. :D
I really need to join this one. By some strange coincidence, I just logged in here after going through my boxes of unfinished projects. In fact I just frogged a half finished scarf, and I'm about to frog a slipper. I don't especially like the way either one of these turned out. Despite this, I still have a lot of unfinished projects, including a few CAL's that I joined and never finished.
Julie ~ This is a wonderful idea! Can I have a day or two to get organized? I have to plan ahead a little...so I can play by the rules. :lol Thanks for keeping us in line and making it all so much fun!:manyheart
This sounds like something I would love to join. I'm not sure that I'm qualified though. I only have 3 WIPs. One I will finish tonight and the other by Monday (both small stuffed animals). I have one large WIP that I've barely begun and already need to frog. I might start one or two WIM, but I'm going to have to focus on a move and have to be careful what I start.
I am not in too bad a shape right now, but I want to join. So I must join a thousand other CAL's so I will qualify for this one right????
Hmmm Hubby said no, like that would stop me.
Thanks for jumping in . Yep, this was a good way of starting a new one but killing about 12 birds with one stone. :D
Glad to have you along, it wouldn't be the same without you .
Hey Mary ! Great to see you !
And yep, you can get organized. It'll take me a day or so to get my own thoughts in order .
Another idea that may keep us on track will be to keep a llittle daily journal of how much we do and what we accomplish each day .
Hi There Em,
It's good to have you along . Don't worry, you will probably end up with a bunch more projects if you stick around here for long. There is so much temptation that you can't hardly resist, so feel free to add a couple more projects if you get your other small items finished up here quick .
I'll join - I've got so many WIPs, it's not even funny.
I'll have to spend some time over this coming weekend sorting my WIPs out, and deciding which to continue and which to frog.
What is your stance on projects for which I've bought yarn, but haven't started? Save them to the end of the CAL maybe? My poor daughter doesn't yet have an afghan for her bed, even though I've got the yarn enough for three of them for her.
JulieKay
May 16, 2007, 11:10 PM
Hi Tiga !
Welcome ~~~ From the looks of your list, you certainly do qualify ! If you want my opinion, I think that you should try getting all of the projects on your list finished, then you can start fresh with your daughter's afghan . That will be a big one and it looks like you have several already in the works .
Thanks again !
This is why I stopped reading the CAL threads... because I can't say no to any that Julie Kay suggests. however this could be very useful to me right now. I need to get some order in all this chaos.
it won't hurt to go on a Dora vacation for a while to get some of this stuff cleared out.
Colour me in on this one.
I will do an inventory over the next several days and be ready for Monday.
Hi Everyone,
I'm in a similar boat. I can't help myself with starting new projects and buying new materials. I joined a group last year on another board (cross stitch board ) which was a 50 project challenge to try and use up some the items I already own. Fell off that wagon several times but still trying to finish projects. Very slow I am. Life keeps getting in the way. :lol
This might be my best bet to try again. Just need more will power.
I will spend a few hours trying to plan my week and list it here shortly.
thanks for the great idea Julie Kay
Good morning ,ladies !
It's good to see some of my old pals, along with some new ones . This will be well worth your time and effort , you'll see . I just hope this system will work out . I think if I keep on a strict day-by-day schedule, I'll be able to do all the things that I want to get done .
Wendy- great to have you along. You add such a lot of flair to the group .You are very organized already if you have your days mapped out and your list made. I started mine last night but have to "tweak " it a little this morning yet .
Darski - it's good to see you back. If you have been skipping the CAL area, you are missing the most fun in the whole place ! I hope this helps you get a hand;e on any unfinished items .
Cara and Heather - thanks for jumping in ! You are both good at staying on task and completing things once started, so you will both be good assets to have in the group. You can kinda be the "UFO Police " .
Pauline - wow, a 50-project challenge ! Whoo, that sounds like a pretty big challenge . No wonder it was too hard for you. We will start with smaller numbers here. If any of you have 50 projects started, you have ME beat,that's for sure !
Miranda- I'm glad you found us right away so you could get in on the ground floor with this. I hope this system will work well for you .
To all that have signed up at this point :
Today is the day to dig out all those projects, make an inventory of them and decide what will definitely go on the project list and what will maybe be "recycled", shall we say, into yarn for something else . The recycled projects, you will not have to include in your list .
If you have a small list that needs done, but there is some project you have wanted to do for a really long time and just havent been successful at it for some reason, you can add that to your list . OR, if you know of something coming up here soon that you will have to have done ,such as a baby or wedding item, then tack that on .
I have a few myself that are projects I have started so many times , it's embarrassing ,but I plan on tacking them onto my list to give them one more chance . They will haunt me forever if I don't complete them .
So, today, just take inventory, make your list, then we can go from there . You may want to keep a little notebook near your chair to keep your progress straight for each day. That might help us get organized too .
We won't have to "officially " start til Monday on our actual project for the day,but if you are ready and raring to go, feel free to start right away .
I will come in each day with a reminder of what we are tackling that day . NEXT Friday will be our first Photo Friday, so you'll have a week from tomorrow to get things in order enough to post photos .
Great to see you. :)
I think this is going to work .We will help each other to complete these things. I think the Fear Factor on Photo Friday may also do the trick. That way, we have a day to aim for and will have to show some success each week .
I don't have a problem working on my projects. My problem is organizing it, so this is going to be tough. :yes I usually just pick one up & give it a go until something gets in the way :devil or it's finished. :cheer I'm going to give it a go but I won't make any promises of being able to stay organized. I know we aren't officially starting until Monday. However, I am going to begin today. Last fall I made some squares for the Warm Up America program, but I never got around to donating them. I'll just keep making more. I'm pretty sure I can donate them at the local Michaels store.
Yea, I think it'll be a nice feeling to de-clutter my closet full of BAGS of projects . That's what I am doing this morning, sorting out each bag, placing all the colors needed into one bag, and writing the day of the week each bag will be needed. I am also putting a printout of the pattern in the bag and also the size hook I used so I don't forget that on down the road . It'll be great to get all this wrapped up .
Welcome, Tristan !
I love your name, so pretty . You can include your knitting projects too if you'd like. They will certainly qualify if they have been laying around waiting to be finished for awhile. I am actually devoting one of my days to a knit project myself .
Amy-
It sounds like your head is like mine. That is my problem, I always have so many new things brewing, I can't concentrate on the old ones. This should help to fix that situation though . Welcome !
Good morning Barbara and thanks for signing up . Do any of you feel kinda like you just signed up for Boot Camp ? This may be a little along those lines if we stay on our strict schedules, but I believe we can accomplish a lot of we are all dedicated to this . Glad you joined us !
Wendy- yep, I'm real excited to have so many sign up ! This will actually be fun if we get lots of frequent posters and everyone is dedicated to finishing their items . It will be a challenge, but we can do it .
Positive thinking , right ?:hook
Hi Cindy !
Thanks, it always seems friendlier if we know each other's names in these groups. That is great if you are ready to start today ! Nothing wrong with that . :)
I just gave everyone a couple days to gather their thoughts and get things in order before starting, but if any of you are ready, go ahead and start !
I have seen a couple places too that take Warm Up America Squares. I don't know if they have a box out all year, but you can always just store them away til fall then drop them off . We did that here in our town at our library one winter and made 34 afghans for the nursing home that winter. Maybe I can get that revived again after summer is over with . The squares would be great to work on during summer, being small and portable .
A couple of real life thingys will set my agenda at least for a while...
As for TV Tuesdays, I don't have a TV and Christian radio is not known for it's one hour programs but I can listen to Paul McGuire for 3 hours so that is what I will be going for to fit this segment and I have a project that will need those three hour segments at least for a while :wlol (my Coronet Bedspread/doily has been languishing :blush :sigh )
Wednesday is the day our building sewing circle meets and we needle artists join in the social room for a gab and knit fest. I have been keeping my Wedding gift afghan for those nights and, since it has to be finished by July, I am going to keep that plan in place to begin.
And for the sake of clarifying the rules (not debating them :wlol) I do not do a lot of multi's or varigated projects; Would that day then be available for say...
Starting a new multi or varigated project?
Starting any new project?
Other?
Reality rears its ugly head here... If I can't start any new projects until all the old ones are completed I might start kicking little old ladies and puppies in frustration so do we have some Padded Room variations? :rofl
Monday - Multicolor projects will be whatever quilt is in progress and that darned Van Gogh project. I'm gonna whip that thing one way or the other :lol
Tuesday - TV project will be the day I work on all those quick and easy ideas clogging my head that I can't seem to find an hour to do. Thanks for showing me where that hour was, Julie :hug
Wednesday - Oldest WIP I have is the mate to my male gnome doll. Time to make him a wife since she has part of a body :lol
Thursday - We have a local charity drive at the holidays called Gifts for Grannies....and Grandpa's, too. I will work on the lap ghans for that program. Kids get lots of help but no many seem to remember the older and more lonely amongst us :manyheart
Friday - Photos! Yay! I love Photos!
Saturday and Sunday - I've been buying yarn and stashing it away a little at a time to make an old-fashioned bedspread for me. I think I shall be selfish on the weekends and actually work on that :manyheart That and these baby blankets that I actually suckered someone into paying me to do :lol
Oh Julie what a great idea. I have a decent list of WIPs not too many but there is a list. I have a question though. I am in the secret pal swap and I am going to make little things for my pal but I don't know what or any of that plus I can't photo them (I don't want her to accidently see them) so would those count or would I be doing those on the sly :lol
I would love to join and I will work on my list today and tomorrow. I have a few things I need to get finished up that I started a long while ago. Plus I have a quilt that I sort of commited to that I need to at least get designed. Maybe not started but I could make some time to get myself into gear and get it figured out how I will actually do it.
Ok ladies
It sounds like you are hard at work sorting and shifting and getting things organized and ready for action .
to answer a few questions -
Rose, we'd love to have you join in, but that is one of the rules, no new projects til we clean up the ones that are overflowing our closets, bedrooms, trunks, and anywhere else you hide your stash . We have to stick to the rules if this is gonna work ! :)
Darski- of course you can listen to the radio or do anything else if you don't watch tv- that is fine . :) As long as you use your allotted time for one specific project that night, it will be fine, and go ahead and keep your same schedule for the church nights since that is already time allotted .
Now, as for the next comment :
If you don't do much variegated or bright colored projects , why did you ask if you can start a NEW variegated project ? Hhhhmmmmm ????
Nope, sorry . If you can dig out another unfinished item that needs work, you can put that in the Monday slot .
( Thought you'd trick me, my little pretty, didn't you ? ):D
Cara, Rose and Darski -- there you go, it sounds like you are all on track now .
Good job, ladies !
Hi Gram and welcome
As for a camera, it's ok if you don't have one- you can still join up and follow along . Just make up your list of projects and which ones you will do on which nights and we'll let you make yours into a book report type form on Fridays- you can tell us how many rows, squares, etc you got done on each item that week. How does that sound ?
Hey Donna ! Great to see you. Sure, you can use your Secret Pal items as one of your nights-- just choose a night that isn't already taken up with another project and you can call that your secret pal night. You wont have to tell us what it is or show photos til it's done and your pal has gotten it, or you don't have to show those at all. I've never signed up for the pal thing, so not sure how the rules on those work , but sure, just pick your night for that and it'll work out fine . :)
Hi There Em,
It's good to have you along . Don't worry, you will probably end up with a bunch more projects if you stick around here for long. There is so much temptation that you can't hardly resist, so feel free to add a couple more projects if you get your other small items finished up here quick .
I did just finish up one project and have so many that I want to start! But here's my WIP list:
*Finish my MIL's fuzzy bear
*A I've-never-tried-thread-before-so-why-am-I-starting-a-huge-project-with-it,-but-at-least-it's-for-me wrap
*A green who knows what
But I really want to start something else after I finish the bear so that I can have something to do when I can't stand the wrap any more. So here's that list:
*charity daisy square
*more ducky stuff (they're addictive)
*bathroom rug from t-shirt yarn (may take a while to start since I don't have that many t-shirts
*a few animals (monkey, mouse, frog, beaver, and more)
*make an acorn for the squirrel
*a chapstick holder (what are they called?)
*a southwest-style graph wall hanging
*a butterfly bag
But I promise never to have more than 3 WIPs going at any one time. Would that be OK? :D
Hey Em,
Well, if you can get a few more of those going ,maybe you can put them each into one of the categories so you have something for each day of the week . Some of them sound like small items that won't take you long, so maybe you can use one of your nights as your small project night .
I'll let you figure out how you want to divvy up the list . :)
Em,
I was just looking at your blog photos -- wow, that baby blessing dress is gorgeous. what a nice heirloom for your family .
I have a question about the afghan you made your husband -- was that all done in granny squares or were some of them pieces half-grannies or diamonds ? It is very nice !
I hope all the quilt-ghan ladies take a look at that . They'd all love to see it .
They are all squares. Some are one solid color and the others are half one color and half another (a diagonal divide down the middle of the square). It's the same stitch on all of them, just with color changes on some.
It took forever to make. It's laying on a queen size bed to give you an idea of the size.
Hey guys
I'm still "tweaking " the final list . Friday will be Photo Friday and as far as crochet, it will be called Crocheter's Choice, which means you can work on any project that day that is on your week's list .
If someone needs a break for a day, that can be your day off to do something else . :)
I'll repost the list again here when i get it tweaked just right and each day, I'll come in with a reminder of what work day it is in case someone forgets . :think :hook
Hi Gram and welcome
As for a camera, it's ok if you don't have one- you can still join up and follow along . Just make up your list of projects and which ones you will do on which nights and we'll let you make yours into a book report type form on Fridays- you can tell us how many rows, squares, etc you got done on each item that week. How does that sound ?
Hey Donna ! Great to see you. Sure, you can use your Secret Pal items as one of your nights-- just choose a night that isn't already taken up with another project and you can call that your secret pal night. You wont have to tell us what it is or show photos til it's done and your pal has gotten it, or you don't have to show those at all. I've never signed up for the pal thing, so not sure how the rules on those work , but sure, just pick your night for that and it'll work out fine . :)
Sounds great! I already have my list. I will have to poke around and make sure I didn't miss any. I'm going to try not to frog any of them. We will have to see when I get started on them. So far I have 9 WIPs and my secret pal. Luckily one is almost done and the other is a quick one. I won't be able to show my secret pal stuff till July. Unless of course she figures me out. lol. But I will definitely show them all off after she gets them and knows who I am.
Starting Monday my week will go as follows:
Monday; my Round Ripple
Tuesday; my graphghan for dh it's a sports graph
Wednesday; my scarf I started when I first joined the ville
Thursday; I'm going to start making squares to ROAK people and to send in comfortghans
Friday; photo Friday and I'll work on secret pal stuff
Saturday and Sunday; I'll have my quilt squares with me for whenever I'm in the truck.
As I get some of these done I'll replace them with other WIPs. I may tweak my list depending on how you tweak our to do's. But so far this is it for now. I'm pretty excited to get started on this.
You guys sound very organized with your lists and about ready to go . That's great ! I spent most of my day yesterday SORTING... going through my yarn, bags, patterns ,etc getting everything in order. I placed all the yarn for one project in one bag, with the pattern, then taped a note on the outside for what day of the week I pull it out . We should be all ready to go by Monday .
Rox- welcome in ! It sounds like you already have your list made out too .
I know I remembered the old WIP thread and went looking for it the other night, but it was buried someplace on page 3 or 4, so I thought I'd revive the idea with a little "twist " and have everyone make their lists and commit to one project a day per week, that way we can work on all of them .
Hi Julie.
Shopping is no longer going to be any fun. Usually when I go I stop in the yarn isle and have a look now I will have to give it a wide berth so I dont tempt myself to buying anything new.
TV Tuesday
Black Block Purse
WIP Wednesday
Felted Project Bag - however, I just need to make the strap and then felt it. So, after that
Blue Ribbon Yarn cardigan
Thankful Thursday
I'm not currently involved in any charity projects. So, I have a grey cardigan I have been working on for the lil sis.
Wendy
You funny thing, you ! Look out bank account ! You'll go buy 168 balls of yarn today just to "tide you over " . :lol
Technically, I didn't mention the buying more yarn issue, so thanks for bringing that up .
I guess I will leave that decision up to each individual. You are right, shopping won't be much fun if you can't buy yarn. I guess we could all make a pact to buy something else ,like....hmmmmm ....
makeup .
- But if I buy and use as much makeup as I do yarn, I could join the circus as their newest clown. ( and I dont even WEAR makeup , so that one is no fun )
How about candy bars ?
But then we'd all gain so much extra poundage, we'd need someone to push us around in a wheelbarrow .
How about cigars ?
If I smoked cigars like I use yarn, the neighbors would be on the phone calling the fire department 7 days a week. The smoke rolling out of here would make it look like our house was on fire .
I guess we can make this rule regarding buying yarn ,since I don't want to totally take away all your fun .
If you feel like you have the will power and restraint, you can BUY more yarn, but you MUST put it away when you get home. No taking it back out of the bag "just to look at it a little bit ".
No trying out "just one square with it to see how it's gonna look " .
You'll have to have the will power to put it away and keep it put away til your other items are done.
I guess that will be the fairest way to handle that one . I'd hate to see someone miss out on a really good yarn sale, or finally find just the color they have been looking for, then have to pass it up, so this will be on the honor system.
You can buy it, but you can't use it til all your UFO's are complete .
How's that sound ?
Aussie, the cat blankets are what I started making for each of my 4 cats at the beggining of the year when I was learning to knitt. 2 of them are not very big so gonna crochet to make them bigger, the 3rd is a afghan made out of about 25 knitted squares with different stiches. Wanted to back it with fleece, but have decided to crochet an edge around it.
Didnt follow any pattern, just made it up as I went along.
Hi everyone, Its photofriday and although we havent started yet I thought I would show a photo of all my projects. I hope to be able to finish them all and have a clean slate.
Most of the projects you have seen as they have been ongoing for quite awhile but I havent shown the van gogh which you can see to the right at the front and the one at the very back which I had frogged and hid in my drawer but now seeing it from this distance it doesnt look too bad. There is also my bright version of the blue star ghan which still needs the bright orange to be added. Also I have shown my xmas round ripple for the first time here as well which was at at standstill as well but is now on my weekly schedule.
In total there are 9 projects that need to be finished.
Lots of posts since I checked in earlier . :)
First of all ,Rose, you are certainly allowed to hang out in here and be our cheerleader if you want. I know the structure part of it will also be hard for me, but it's the only way I'm gonna stay on task ond get these things done . If you wanna jump in at any time, you're always welcome .:hook
Tristan- Thanks for posting your list. It does look like you have many things on the go, but with your hard work and our backup support, you'll be able to whittle it down .
Wendy- thanks for the photos ! I think you are brave to show yours all in one heap. I could do that ,too , but am not as brave as you. It took all my power yesterday just to get them all into their separate spots and divided up into some type of order .
You know, those 2 colors you have together are so pretty-- I don't think they belong to the same project, but the chocolate brown color and the lavendar-- very pretty !
Judy- yea, I guess that's an advantage to your husband being gone a lot, you have more spare crochet time, plus if you are like me, when mine isn't here for meals, I rarely cook anything for myself so that should save on cooking and washing dishes time .
Donna- that's funny, you even found another one under your bed ! Have you checked the attic yet ? There may be another whole box full up there .
Amy- have you started the flag yet ? That looks like an interesting project . Did you order it from Herrschner's or a place like that or find it in a store ? I've never seen those kits in a store before, but we aren't real well stocked with big craft stores in my area .
May 18, 2007, 11:38 AM
Wendy- well, that is what is taking me so long to whittle my list down. I think at last count I had started the dreaded Prairie Star about 14 times, along with the Woven Blocks , 9 patch, etc, so I had to take the time to go through and choose which color combos I liked from these and keep only one from each of them.
If I finish one prairie star, I'll think I have accomplished a miracle, so 13 more of them is asking a little much.
I actually have my list whittled to one for each day of the week, so it's manageable .
I'll post my list here in awhile. I just got home- I went to run some errands and found a whole neighborhood having garage sales, so I made it home late . :lol
I really want to do this because I like the structure and focus but the fact is that my claim to fame is that I create/design doll clothes - it is just what I do.
In order to follow the rules here, my designing doll clothes
"shall be deemed to be my employment"
even though it is unpaid employment :wlol
Seriously, I cant sit here with Dora demanding a new scenario/style and Sunnie always insists she needs a new hat and the twins (CPK's) barely have a thing to wear.
An entire Yahoo group could cease to exist if I don't make doll clothes. Does that work?
If it's all or nothing, the doll clothes win but I would keep working by this plan anyway and just come here an be the :cheer.
Hey Julie,
I found the kit in an Atlantic Book Warehouse near me for 9.99! I had to get it when I saw it. Then I went back again and picked up another on! Even if I don't make two, that price for the yarn is worth it!
I haven't started it yet, but probably will this weekend, or atleast on Monday.
Amy-
What is this Warehouse you speak of and where can I find it?? I know you are by me - so it can't be that far away. And if you get back to me quick enough I can go this weekend - hint hint :rofl:laughroll:dance:bounce
Thanks Amy!!
thats right
my hubby works in a petroliom company he is an opperator so his job is to work by shift
2 days per shift
morning shift is :6am-2pm
afternoon shift:2pm-10pm
night shift:10pm-6am in the next day
off shift:from the the time he gets out of work +one complete day (which he have to sleep early to wake early the other day) till the 1st day shift
so imagine his life is not going regularly so when i have the time to crochet i don`t wanna stop and when i don`t wanna stop he is free to stay with me
and smetimes when he is free to be my hand itch`s to crochet
now you can understand my situation of not stepping forward on my projects
but every second in his arms makes me forget even my name :heart
The Atlantic Book Warehouse is located:
979 Bethlehem Pike
Montgomeryville, PA 18936
(215) 661-0450
Depending on where you're coming from your best bet is to take 309N towards the Montgomery Mall. It will be on the right after Stump Road. I think It has a big yellow sign. If you pass an Applebee's or Barnes and Noble, you've gone too far. They only had a few left when I was there earlier this week, but I've got an extra one if you can't find one and are interested.
Good LUCK! They also had several crochet books that might interest you. Let me warn you though, if you love books as much as I do, plan on spending lots of time going through everything they've got!
I really want to do this because I like the structure and focus but the fact is that my claim to fame is that I create/design doll clothes - it is just what I do.
In order to follow the rules here, my designing doll clothes
"shall be deemed to be my employment"
even though it is unpaid employment :wlol
Seriously, I cant sit here with Dora demanding a new scenario/style and Sunnie always insists she needs a new hat and the twins (CPK's) barely have a thing to wear.
An entire Yahoo group could cease to exist if I don't make doll clothes. Does that work?
If it's all or nothing, the doll clothes win but I would keep working by this plan anyway and just come here an be the :cheer.
The first step is to admit that you have an addiction. I like your designs too much to mention any of the other steps. Plus I have a little girl that will one day own a Dora or CP. :yes
Maybe treat yourself to a new doll outfit every time you finish a WIP? Everyone loves a well deserved reward!
Wow, I took my eyes off this thread for a day and look how many posts there are. I have dusted off all the WIPs I can find and will make a list tonight or tomorrow. However, I was already inspired to finish two things, a round shawl (Just a simple doily pattern done in WW yarn, with a ruffle added to it, and the draped bed jacket:
It works for me, if all you want to make is doll clothes and you have lots of them needing done, then they'd qualify for a lot of UFO's . I'll leave it to you to divide them up accordingly, like which day you would work on which outfits, etc .
Either way you want to take part, we'd be glad to have your company .
Thanks, Amy
I am really interested in seeing this take shape -it looks really unique .
Athab- that is so sweet, I am glad your marriage is so happy and you sound very content .
Hi Amy
I'm glad you're getting ready to go on this. I made the Lace and Bobbles about a year or so ago, I can't even remember when, maybe it was earleir than that. I turned out real pretty though .
What colors are you using for it ? I used all shades of browns for my daughter in law- that's her favorite color .
I'll see if I can get it together for the weekend .
I have something else in the works that I'm trying to tweak too so it's been hard to get everything going at once .
Oh now Em, wait. Let's see. Where are all those places those sneaky little hooks like to hide? Under the cushions is their favorite of course. I find mine in my pocket quite a bit. A couple of times in the bathroom. Once the cat took it (that was a site :lol) and once after getting one from Walmart along with my groceries, I ended up putting it in with the table knives in the drawer :P Where else? Hmmm...can't think of any others right now. I sure hope you find it :hug
I'm an Amy, too. That's how I got my nickname "Tiga" - I was one of three "Amy"s in a parenting group I was in, so I asked an international online forum I was a member of to help me come up with a nickname, and "Tiga" was picked. It means "three" in Malay!
People call me Tiga in so often in the real world now, I sometimes forget my actual name is Amy, lol!
Hi everyone.
We dont start till monday but I have been following my schedule and so far so good. Friday night I did heaps on my crochet cake. This is for a lady at work who is retiring in a couple of weeks. Im making the one advertised on the ville site.
Today I sewed a few rows for another block of the amish. Tomorrow its supposed to be the xmas ripple but because I will be at a racecourse watching my daughter do pedal prix Im going to take my squares to do. I can do the xmas ripple that night if Im not too tired.
How is everyone else going. Have you got your stuff all sorted.
Hi Wendy
Good for you, it sounds like you are right on track .
I have my list made out and had intentions of posting photos today, but the doggone batteries in the camera are bad, so will have to do photos later .
Anyhow, here's my week's schedule :
Monday-Monet
Nine Patch Afghan
Tuesday-TV
Bedspread Bonanza
Wednesday -Oldest
Knit Afghan
Thursday-Thankful
Village Afghan Squares and Assembly
Friday -
Photos
Crocheter's Choice
(For now, this will be putting together the Village Ghan since it has a time frame )
Saturday & Sunday
Prairie Star
All other projects have been frogged and will be recycled into something new when the above items are completed .
* I came in to change my Happy House to my 9-patch, mainly because the 9 patch has been rattling around in my head since LAST SUMMER . Ever since I saw that pattern, I have wanted to make it and started it many times, just like the prairie star. If I stick it in here , then I HAVE to do it now, so it's gotta be bumped up into first slot .
** I currently have a couple HH items going, so I'll let those count for my HH projects .
Julie, I made the draped bed jacket out of TLC's Amore, since that's what I had on hand when I decided to try the pattern. It turned out okay, but it really looks best on a small person. I know I made some changes to the pattern shaping in the hopes of making it big enough for me, but I can't remember what they were. I think a finer yarn would've looked better too. However it is nice and warm and my teenage daughter likes it.
My list:
Mondays: I have two pairs of slippers started, one variegated yarn and one two different colors worked together.
Tuesday: vintage cardigan, need to finish sewing squares together and do edging
http://www.yarnsplus.com/crochet/cardigan.htm
Wednesday: cardigan from this pattern:
http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/twyla/twyla.html
I am using a variegated yarn for this one, so it would fit into Mondays too
Thursday: squares for "Warm up America" or scrap lapghans for local nursing homes
Friday: I have a number of half finished smaller projects that I'd like to finish:
several hats, a purse, dish cloths, mittens and more. I plan to finish one at a time and move on to the next one.
Weekend: Snowflake afghan squares
For this next week my plan is...
Monet Monday: work on the Nosegay/VanGogh
TV Tuesday: work on Coronet bedspread
WIP Wednesday. continue with Wedding (Circle of Hope) Afghan squares. 6.5 rows done and joined, 2.5 rows to go :sigh
Thankful Thursday start and finish my Flander's Fields lapghan for Charity Blitz. (well I have 2 squares and 3 more centres already... uh huh :wlol
Foto Friday; work on Fantasy shawl for prayer shawl ministry (it's the lobby meeting night)
Weekend: maybe see if that Nifty knitter loom thingy will work.:think
This is just the plan for this week. I have a general plan for overall WIP completion but I want to see what I need to see so that it is not overwhelming at one looksee. :eek
Well I have begun sorting through my stash. :2blush I didn't realise just how out of hand my collection had gotten. I frogged a few starts that I couldn't even remember what I was doing or what size hook. Others I have finally pieced most already started projects into one place. My starting list is below and will slot in a few others as some are finished.
Monet Monday
Chapeaus Afghan , strippey afghan and Stainglass Window Afghan
TV Tuesday
4 shawls that are all almost finished. I'll finish one each week. These are what I have been working on for gifts for people and are easy to do in front of TV.
WIP Wendnesday
My oldest Wip are accually cross stitch so I will be slotting some of my small ones in here. Mostly Christmas Ornaments that were started about 2 years ago and never got finished cause I went back to work.
Thursday
yo-yo's and granny daughters from left over yarns.
Photo Friday
just my photos. I'll leave this evening free, cause there is usually housework, kids needing to be driven to work, ironing etc. If theres time I will work on any of the above projects
Saturday and Sunday.
Time permitting cause I spend most weekends driving kids to and from work and DH likes to go out on Saturdays or Garden, I will dedicate to my cross stitch projects which are languishing in a draw. I have several very large projects on the go that just have to have some attention to them. I really want to finish Medieval Town Mandala and Egyptian Garden, ( especially since I just signed up for Tuscany Town Mandala as well.:2blush:2blush:2blush) and still need to catchup with my online classes (Mystery 10 and St, Petersburg)
After looking at the list above. I should never need to go shopping again.
I had the WORST day today - got no sorting of stash done at all.
It took me FIVE hours to balance the checkbook - Quicken and the bank wouldn't talk to each other, and I wound up having to manually balance every transaction back to March. Aiieee!
Then dinner was late and I finally got a chance to get dressed (after wearing my housecoat all day!!), and my bra was still damp from the dryer. After dinner, I decide to run up to Target to pick up a craft organizer I saw there for my scrapbooking papers.
Why did I need that?
Because the stackable drawers I spent an hour putting together, to hold sewing projects and scrapbooking stuff and to make room in my closet for a more organized yarn stash were TOO SMALL for the stupid 12x12 papers!!!!
And so, I get to Target an hour before they close, get the last one of the set of plastic drawers I want, some little crafty supply cases (too cute! all tiny and with compartments!), some cork tiles to stick to my wall to hold inspiration photos and scraps of fabric for designing and a copy of Pirates of the Caribbean 2, because, well, just because I'd had a really crummy day and I haven't seen it yet and Johnny Depp is the cure for anything that ails you, right?
And I get to the checkout, 10 minutes past closing - there was a line - AND I'D LEFT MY CHECKCARD AT HOME!! And of course, my checkbook, too, since I never use it.
So, my day really bit the big one. And I got no sorting done, so I have to do it tomorrow.
But, my tentative schedule is:
Monet Monday: Lace and Bobbles, then my Graphic Granny afghan.
TV Tuesday: Baby Blankets; Irish Rose one first (needs corner squares and edging only), then a starghan - dead easy
WIP Wednesday: Well, my oldest WIP is my 63 Squares Afghan, so I guess that goes here. Not my favorite project, but I have to finish it one of these days! I'll trade off with a filet shawl that I've been working on as a gift and that I need to get out soon.
Thankful Thursday: For right now, I'm going to finish up an N-hook ripple for my grandmother, then I'm going to work on the 'ghans for my friend's kids for this coming Christmas. I have to make three of them, so I need to get crackin'. Plus, I (hangs head sheepishly) have had the yarn since last year, and much of it was donated, as were many squares.
Foto Friday - Post my pictures, work on assorted gifty shawls
Saturday and Sunday - I'll have to work on my sewing projects; I have three or four shirts to make for myself, and one outfit to make for my daughter, plus a "skirt" for my craft table, to hide the all the ugly plastic carts beneath it.
I also take my daughter to therapy three times a week, for a couple of hours each time, so I'll work on my dishcloths then, and my Mom's shawls (one knit, one crocheted - hmmm, wonder which one gets done first?)
So, how long are we planning to run this CAL? I think I've got enough already started to keep me busy until the end of the year!
Wow, what a bad day. We have all had those where it seems nothing goes right. I have days where I can't cook ANYTHING -- no matter how easy it is, I ruin it .
Or one timeI did what you did at the store, only I don't have a credit card or debit card, all I had with me that day was cash- and not enough .
A big line behind me and I had to pick out what to put back . I had quite a bit of junk in my cart ,so I had to eliminate something. Of course, you know, the YARN came home with me .
I left the un-necessary items at the store to get the next time -- you know, milk, bread... :D
I am very proud of you for taking the time out to make out your schedule for the week . Hopefully today will be a better day -- luckily, those bad days usually only come in ONES .
Today HAS to be better!!
And after reading the posts here I've decided to pull out an embroidery/cross stitch project to add to whatever day I can squeeze it in! I'll have more time for all this sometime soon, I hope. The baby bear ghan is working out great and I'm nearly done with the bear itself! Then the border...:eek It's an untested pattern and I've already had to stop at three different rows where I had to figure out where some stitches should go...that slowed me down a little.
I know it's not Foto Friday, but I'm so excited about my progress on this blanket so far! I just started working on it Friday I think and I've gotten 3 hearts and 2 stripes done so far. I like the hearts more than the stripes because they are a challenge, but they are both fun to make, having to change colors and work with millions of balls of yarn at once! I never thought I'd manage.
AMY, that's great work!! Where did you get the pattern - or did you pick squares you liked and are making it that way?
The bear ghan I'm making is from a graph, too, and uses millions of yarn changes (it seems to me, anyway!) I can't sit on the floor to do it - dogs would be all over the yarn more than they are now!
JULIE, I wasn't clear - the pattern is untested - but it isn't mine - I'll give the attribution when I post the finished center panel! I WISH I was that good!!
I have made some progress with my list. I think I have it all situated but who knows if it'll stick. I did think of a couple things that I had hanging around that I forgot about like my pineapple baby ghan & my tiny teddy. I'm going to try to fit them all in but it's so hard with only 7 days in a week. :lol :lol I will probably work on things until done & then add one of the others in it's place. For the heart I've been working on it sitting on the floor...evertime I go from front to back I jump across the yarn and start the next side so it doesn't get tangled. :lol :lol
That is going to look so nice when it's done.
I'm so excited this actually ready to start tomorrow! :woo My living room is a mess :lol I've made myself a little "nest" over by my chair and I'm just itching to dive in!
Julie - Oooh I'm intrigued. I'll PM my email (you already have it but just in case and I need your mailing addy anyway for the Village thing :yes). My curiosity is getting me now :D
Slice - Nifty! I always pass those kits by because of the $30-$40 price tags on them :P But really, when you think about it that's about what it costs to make a ghan once you buy the yarn and pattern. I like that one so much I just might have to pay a little more attention to them from now on :yes Thanks for the info :hug
I have a confession to make :yes My poor house looked like a tornado hit it what with all the yarn and hubby upgrading his puter stuff so while they went to the puter store again I went to tidy our guest room where I keep my yarn in a bureau. This CAL might save me just in time. I filled the entire bureau with yarn from bags and there's still yarn sitting on top of it :blush
I should be ashamed....I'm not....but I should be :devil Does having the yarn for the project count as a WIP or do I need to go start all of 'em now? :lol
Believe me, my list is just from one of my stashes. I don't dare list them all. After I get these done I am planning on working on the other 3 afghans I know I have in my bedroom. 2 of them I am undecided on and they have been sitting for 2 years. They are the ones that I worked on while my dad was sick and I just haven't been able to pick them back up since he passed. Someday I want to finish them. Luckily, I put the patterns and all the yarn with them so at least I know what pattern they were.
I am so proud of myself as I started a bit early on this (Friday) and have almost 3 of mine (Lattice Stole, a test baby ghan and a test apron) FINISHED!!!!!!!:yay
Here is a pic of the lattice stole as I can't post pics of the others until the patterns are released.
I used RH Soft yarn for it. I just love that yarn and I got it for $1 a skein on clearance at Walmart. I really haven't decided who is going to get it or if I am going to keep it. It might end up as a Secret pal gift or in my closet for one of those last minute, need something nice gifts. I just love the pattern and it is available at www.lullabieandlace.com
Hi another Australian here. (Waving from "wish it would rain" Brisbane) Yes I do have a large list. I suffer from Serial Starters Disease. It's very common in the Cross stitch community and seems to be contagious in here as well. I seem to think I can do much more in a day that I really can and there are so many ideas here that I get side tracked all to often.
Miranda, I have to chime in and say that that shawl is just gorgeous.
I, for one am not starting any new projects tonight. I'm just excited at the thought of finishing the ones I have started. I have quite a few more crochet WIPS than I listed though. I'm hoping to finish some of the ones I have listed so that I can add in other ones. And this doesn't even begin to count the cross stitch projects, sewing projects, and the quilts that I have half finished.
And that brings me to a question. Is there a time limit to this CAL?
Okay, I give....I'm tired :P I flat out give up on my Van Gogh project for now...maybe this CAL will clear my head enough for it later on :sigh I also had to rework the block I came up with for my weekend bedspread project. If I didn't know me better, I'd swear I was drunk when I wrote those instructions about six years ago :lol
So, here's my somewhat revised (but final...I swear, Julie :angel) list:
Monday - Multicolor projects will be the quilts I have in progress: School Bus/Big Top/Christmas Goose…I give up on the Van Gogh for now :thair That thing is just giving me fits :grump But I did turn the yarn for it into a quilt I’m calling Van Gogh’s Cats which I did start :lol All the quilts have at least 5 squares done.
Tuesday - TV project will be the Quick & Easy projects.
Wednesday - Female gnome doll.
Thursday - Gifts for Grannies....and Grandpa's, too ghans.
Friday - Photos and the ghan for the nephew....forgot about that one til I found it when I was tidying my stash today :P
Saturday and Sunday - The bedspread for me and the other baby blanket that I'm being paid to do. I actually finished the first one on Saturday morning :lol
There. That should keep me busy for at least 90 days....or 90 years :rofl
Ok I think I figured out a list for the week. I don't know but I think I'll have to only commit to no less than 1 hour a day for that days project since sometimes I have one of them I need or want to work on to get more of done :hook . Anyway I even had to start 2 projects to give me 7 wips for the week:blush so here's my week list.
Monday- Van Gogh RR
Tuesday - Spiderman RR
Weds. - Thread Snowflakes (It's not my oldest but my oldest was a thread tablecloth I was doing and is so old the thread has yellowed :blush so I think I'm going to just sew what I have made together and make a center piece or something.)
Thursday - Charity Blitz items (this month 2 lapghans)
Friday - Pics and My Poncho
Sat & Sun - Squares for Calliope and penguin quilts.
I've got to finish a few tiny things that I didn't add here since they won't take me long once I get the yarn to finish them. Those are my green van gogh afghan and I need to make 3 more squares for my van gogh bedspread to make it a little longer.
Good morning C-ville UFO'ers !!!
Today is Do It Day .
Final lists should be made out and tacked up someplace where you can see them. For those of you playing along with your bingo sheets, they need to be made out and tacked up too .
I have high hopes that all who joined ( I believe I counted 24 yesterday ) will stick it out here til the end with us .
The one question of this CAL having a deadline- nope- the deadline is when you get all your items done . If we had a deadline, I'd be in trouble, because most of my items are afghans a LONG ways from being done .
Anyhow, here's the drill :
Each day I will come in and post the project title for that day. Please take your allotted project, come in here and post what you are working on that day, how many rows, rounds or inches it has (whatever is easiest for you to describe) ,and work on that project as much as possible that day . At the end of the day, if you choose, you can come in and tell us how much further you got on it . If you don't have the chance to check in that often, then keep a little notebook that tells you how much you accomplished that day ,then Friday you can come in and post photos if you have a camera, if not, that will be the day you come in to post your week's progress on each item .
I'll make a second post to get this first day off the ground properly !
Good luck, and hang tough. I can be a pretty tough General when I need to be but it'll be worth it in the end when you have everything completed and can start out with a clean slate and a brand-spanking new project and no more clutter in your house .
JulieKay
Today is Day One for our UFO CAL :yay
Today is Monet Monday - you should be working on your most colorful project today. I will holler Roll Call, then drop in and give me your stats for the morning . What you're working on today, how far along it is ,etc .
Today ,when you have crochet time, this is the only project you should be working on .
Do not start any other new projects . If you start out with 7 ( one for each day of the week ) and you complete one, you can mark it off your bingo sheet ,then bump one of the other ones into that slot, so it will get 2 days a week worth of attention .
If you have the willpower, you can BUY more yarn, but it must be put away and not taken back out until these projects are all complete .
This is for your own good. If you have the willpower I do, then you will buy yarn and want to use it that day, but you shouldn't do that, since it'll throw off your whole point of joining this group .
I'd like to see a great success rate in here and LOTS of finished projects .
So ladies, next post will be Roll Call ..................
Good luck and start your engines .
Today I m working on my bedspread. I saw a post in the Ripple -along a few weeks ago of someone who made a bed-sized ripple and thought it was so pretty, so that is what I am making for my bedspread .
I now have 8 rows. I am doing 4 of each color. The colors are all kinda the same tone ... there are mostly shades of greens, tans, blues and peach. I don't know the exact names of the colors-- it's the Canadiana yarn I got a couple weeks back at that big sale and all they give on the wrapper is the color number .
Anyhow, I am 8 rows in this morning before picking it up. It will be wide enough to fit our double bed .
Today I have Cam all day and evening, so we will see how much I get done .Depends on how busy he keeps himself today .
I may not get a lot of time to drop in here today, but will check in as time permits ,and will drop in late this evening to see how everyone is doing .
Good luck, and come in to tell us about today's project .
Good morning ladies. Today I am working on my round ripple. I am making this one with Lion Brand Chenille in Teal, Amsterdam print, Purple and London print. I am doing 3 rounds of each color and am starting the day with a whopping 4 rows done. I have to work today so we will see how far I can make it. One thing about round ripples though is that they go so fast.
I will check in and plan on crocheting for an hour this morning before I go to work and then more this evening.
Good Morning! I am working on my blue and black cardigan. It's a different kind of yarn - more ribbonlike. So, it proves more difficult. I left for work before I got the chance to see how far I was and what I wanted to do. But if I remember correctly, I am on the last piece before I need to put it together. I'd like to get at least another 6 rows done tonight.
The reason for the modest goal: I'm buying a new car - need to get the current car in tip top shape =) So tonight is also devoted to that!
Good luck everyone!!!
Afternoon all, here is what I will be working on today.
Afghan for my Dad, it started off as a yo yo ghan, but couldnt join the yoyos without them looking a mess, so turning them into squares using a design I made up as I went along. Dont know how many squares to do yet, but no more than 60.
Using shades of blues with a light grey border on each square and will do a border in grey around the whole thing, once I decide how big it's gonna be.
I have 34 squares complete 6 with borders, have to unpick 8 squares that I sewed together as too tight and curling up, will also block them all once complete before sewing together as they are not all square.
I dont have much time today as I have an appiontment to sort out my paperwork for my 1st job as a registard nurse (finillay after 14 months since qualification). Really exicited, hopefully everything will go well and I might even get my uniform.
Will check in later with what I have managed to do.
I'll let ya know for sure when I pick it up. ;) I don't remember what color i'm using either but I do remember i'm joining it with frosty green. I'll let ya know more details later when it's in front of my face. :lol
My schedule since I didn't post it before will be as follows.......
Monday~Monet ghan & rectangle granny ghan
Tuesday~Tetris ghan, baby gingham
Wednesday~baby pineapple ghan, flower garden
Thursday~Teachers Apple doilies (2)
Friday~pics. & baby star ghan, stuffed bear
Saturday & Sunday~baby set for shower, heavenly dreams bedspread
I know most of mine have 2 per slot but I don't want to forg anything. Anything I start is because I wanted to make it so i'm sticking them all out. Plus, mostly everything is atleast at the halfway mark so i'll be okay or atleast I hope so. Have a good one. I'm off to get the ole monet out. :hook :yarn
Good Morning, All!
Well, I'm still in the midst of reorganizing my craft stash (yarn/sewing/scrapbooking) b/c I wound up having to INSTALL NEW SHELVING in my closet yesterday.
But, I did a yarnventory last night, and found two more WIPs (a very simply trellis stitch shawl for myself that will be a TV Tuesday project after the babyghans are done) and yarn for a sweater for my mom and one for Ellie (both of which are WIM, so won't get started until I'm done with all my WIPs).
I wound up with FOUR notebook pages, handwritten, of yarn. And that's not counting the super giant Space Bag with all the individual skeins for the 'ghans for my friend's kids - at least 10 pounds of yarn in there or the individual skeins of yarn for my Lace and Bobbles. I didn't think I needed to inventory those.
I also didn't individually inventory my scrap yarn, and I have at least 3 pounds of that, mostly baby yarn.
It's insane. I knew it was bad, but I didn't know how bad until I got it all out and could see it all at once.
Anyway, I will be working on putting all of that away today, so I won't make much progress on my Lace and Bobbles afghan until this evening, but I will do at least two rows. I'm on round 20 or 21, so it takes a while to get around it. Two rounds is like 8 rows, right?
And, I have to go to Golden Corral from 10:30 to 1:30 with my daughter - she raised the most money in her class for her school Walk-a-thon, so they get to have lunch with the principal. I have to go, b/c she's too little to reach the buffet by herself, lol! But, I get a free lunch out of it, so that's good. Just cuts into my crochet time.
Well, off to update my signature, and put some yarn away! As soon as my camera shows up (it's lost!!!), I'll post pictures of my lovely new closet.
Morning to you all.
Wow everyone is busy with Monet Monday.
I have been busy with my van gogh pillow which has 5 colors white,yellow,light green,bright green and dark green. The pillow has 2 sides, one side starts white to dark green the other side starts dark green to white.
Im making this pillow for my puddy cats to lay on. Arent I nice.
Well my progress is that I have done 3 rounds on each side, its a rectangle pillow. I hope to have this finished by monday fortnight.
Julie great idea with the bingo card.:clap
It took me awhile to fill all the spaces on the card. Do you think this is going to be the longest game of bingo in history. Do you think we will make the guiness book of records. One thing is for sure though. If you can finally call out bingo then you know you have at least 5 projects finished and you just gotta love that.
Have fun everyone.
Night all.
Ok - for Monet Monday I'll be getting back to my "Blue Star" afghan. I LOVE this pattern except for all the 9-patches - can't handle those - so I decided to use regular granny squares instead. It worked out great for the first part of the afghan, but I'm at a different stage now and that's where I ran into trouble and put this project aside. I'm determined to finish it though - it's going to be a gift for my mom. So today is the big day when I get the pattern back out, hunker down and prepare myself for some more trial and error til I get it to work. Wish me luck!
I don't really know how to describe where I am in the afghan - it's a combination of squares, working in rounds, 1/2 grannies, etc. I guess I'd say I'm about 1/3 of the way done.
By the way, there is a Blue Star CAL - which is where I started this project so I'll be updating that CAL w/my progress too.
Today I'm working on my round ripple. Ever since I made one of these I can't stop. I think I've done 4 so far, but none of them were big enough to cover a bed, mainly lapghans or small area rugs.
Anyway, I started today with 28 rows completed, and will hopefully get 3 more finished. I'll be working on it in between cleaning up the house for a dinner guest tonight.
Wow...lots of posts since I called "time out" last night to watch the Yankee game!
I also have WIPs I didn't list (including the Blue Star!) - they'll just climb on board (the bingo board) after any one particular thing is finished. I am using this CAL to block out 2 days to work on charity projects that I've put off finishing. I'm not listing the bear baby ghan, since I work on that every chance I get.
Today is one of those days for charity crocheting (I won't count the lapghan I finished last night). I have a somber colored preemie baby ghan someone made and gave to me - to which I'm going to add some other colors and make into an adult lapghan. I join squares quickly - I just have to pull out the right colors to complement it. I should get most of it done today - I hope!
Good morning ladies :flower
And it begins!! I'm so very excited!! :yay Today I will work on my School Bus childs quilt :yes I have 17 of the yellow squares done. I'm going a slightly different way on this quilt. It's going to be a pictorial. There's a bus, a school house and a tree in it! All in a child-size ghan. Talk about a design challenge :lol I sure hope it comes out half as nifty as I think it will :hook
I was a good girl and got my housework done yesterday :eek so I get to devote the entire day to this :yay I'm gonna take it slow though because I probably over did it just a bit this weekend :blush but boy did I have fun!!!
Good luck y'all and I'll check in again later!
I am going to continue with my Van Gogh project: the Nosegay doily transmogrified into a RR throw.
I posted my concerns in the VGC thread but by the end of today I should know if this is worth doing.
I am going through golds and oranges to a claret colour. i may have to buy another Claret as I am afraid this thing is going to eat more yarn than I have and it will take tons to get around the last rows. ( i am afraid I may have to buy 3 more clarets actually... :sigh
Anyhoo... at the end of today I should know if this is a bang or a bust. I might have a new project next Monet Monday. :wlol guess the frogpond isn't considered a 'finished ' object huh?
Hello, there! I was wondering if I could join if I didn't play by all the rules? I don't think I'll be able to follow your days, as I have 2 projects that I have a deadline for and they need to be worked on every day first, then I can move onto other things... can I still play? I also have two afghans that were commissioned by someone but I haven't started, so I need to get those out, too. Here's what I have in my UFO/WIP list - mostly in order of importance.
-Red, White & Blue Afghan (also in Miscellaneous CAL) 38/105 done
-Fancy Fans Stole 7/25 done
-Blue & White Squares - weaving in ends (need this by tomorrow!)
-3 Squares for comfortghan - need this ASAP then assembled & bordered.
-Gerber Daisy Afghan - DD's Xmas present (last year) needs ends woven
-Dragonflies Afghan - not started yet
-Secret Afghan - not started yet
-Sunshine & Rainbows Afghan - 5/40 or so done
-Spring Throw - 2/8 done
-Peaches & Cream Lapghan - 10" done
-Autumn Scrapghan - 5 squares done
-TONS of daisy squares for charity afghans to assemble.
I think that's it. I REALLY want to clean some of these out of here. Think it's enough? :lol
Just checking in with my To Do list for today. I have a quick one that I should finish today. I'm making a headband for DD. Her baby hair is getting long and falling into her eyes, but I don't want to cut it yet. So I started a headband before I realized that she'd be pulling it off all the time. And it's a little too big for her right now. It just needs some flowers, which won't take long. Hopefully it'll be finished sometime today!
Hi, Krystal - Julie is busy with her gs today, but it sounds like you have lots to qualify you for this CAL! It seems to be pretty much whatever you assign to each day - work the hardest to finish those UFOs. Since you have commissions that is separate - I think.
Wait for Julie to appear tonight...or she'll take out the bat and use it on me if I've given you the wrong advice!:lol
Meanwhile, keep on chugging along!
I give up on that Nosegay - it is so far past ugly and I can't make the numbers work on round 5 (only) so it is history!
I need to work that pattern in one colour, one strand before I even think about trying it with all these complications.
i can finish the bunting that I started as a Van Gogh. and when that is done, my most colorful project after that is my Flander's Fields which needs finishing (well starting) anyway.
AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!
I don't need this this early in the week.
:hugto self
One other quick mention... some projects will have to be weather permitting. As 90 degree temperatures descend upon us, we wont want heavy afghans in our laps. in addition to all the other stuff wrong with that Nosegay, it was awfully warm in my lap at 10:30 am this morning in May. I can't imagine it in July.
I think my only large and therefor warm project is the wedding gift afghan but it is squares until the border comes along.
Ok, I've got my bingo card filled out and my project for today is the van gogh rr but I have to go to Wal-Mart today to get the yarn to finish it first so till I get there I have to finish up some comfortghan squares I promised out last week then I will go to get my yarn and devote the rest of the day to it. I have 9 rows done already but I don't know how big i'm going to make it.
Athba, I also like cupcake's design...but if you don't have enough of the designs to make it "even" as you work on the pattern, use the random method - it'll still look good. Check out my blog for the charity ghans I've done from conated squares - they're random...to put it mildly!
no the amount of yarn to make squares
my yarn is RRSS so some paterns need solid squares from one color so i don`t know if it will be enough because my sc squares are becomeing 8,5 or 9 '' wich i`m not please with :( my bed is big and i want it to be big enough
Some of the yarn I have to get today is to finish my mom and MIL's things so I might do a little of those in between my rr since they are so close to finished then I can settle in to get these other longer WIP's done. :hook
Don't get the bat out Julie :blush I will work on at least an hour or more of my van gogh rr today:clap and the yarn I'm buying is for these only not any new projects:lol My poor stashbusting score is suffering enough:blush
May 21, 2007, 02:46 PM
Athba, you can always add some sc rows to the smaller squares to make them bigger...and if it's not big enough to cover a bed right now...you can either keep it lapghan size or wait for more yarn.
Morning everyone,
Well since it is Tuesday here I will be working on one of the shawls that I need to finish. Probably my demin blue one it is already half way.
Monet Monday
I worked on my scrap afghan yesterday only got one square finished. Very busy day. But that is one square less now. Not sure how many still needed have to check after I get the kids to school.
Off to get everyone out of the house, mop my floors and try to stitch a little before going skating.
Morning everyone,
Athba I like cupcakes version. I think you will just have to plod along and if you run out well just order more. Some afghans its just hard to tell if you are going to have enough yarn.
Krystal hi there hows it going.
Heather goodluck at Walmart, I hope you got all the yarn you will need.
Pauline hey fellow Aussie. Its great to have someone in here at the same timezone.
I will be working on my Casablanca squares today.
I just got home from work and haven't started on todays project yet. I'm planning to work on slippers. They aren't the most colorful, but they are variegated. I have one slipper done and will spend at least an hour working on the other one. I was hoping to make these for myself, but the one that is done is way too big, so they will be donated somewhere unless my dh wants them.
How do you like working with the chenille yarn, is it hard to use ? That's a kind I've never tried .
Donna- wow, you have a good amount done on your round ripple. Hope you had time to get a little farther . When they get that big, it takes a lot longer to get around the rows, doesn't it ?
Tristan- the ribbon yarn is another I've never tried. I guess I need to experiment with some of these new ones someday. I don't tend to have much luck with anything other than plain old yarn ,though .
Good luck on your new car, what kind are you getting ?
Roxy- I love blues and greys together and will be interested in seeing your newly invented yoyo squares. Is it anything like the online square made of yoyos ? I know I saw a pattern for one once and it was very pretty .
You are in the company of some other nurses-- me and Tabby are both LPN's and I thought Linda said she was .. I'm not sure if I'm right on that or not,but I think she is .
Tab- good luck on the Monet. Mine is still gathering dust as we speak ,so it needs some attention too . A lot more than yours does - you are much farther than me . :lol
Amy T - Wow, and I thought I had a pile of yarn . It sounds like you have me beat by a long shot ! You are doing another that I have made one of and another one started long ago -- the lace and bobbles. Doesn't it make a beautiful afghan ?
Wendy- you are nice to make your kitties their own pillow. And yep, you are right, this may go down as the world's longest bingo game in history .
I was only able to get another block done for it. My 6th one wasn't bordered either so I did that too. Jaden had other plans for me today & I forgot how time consuming those blocks can be. I'm so used to 2 1/2" squares. :lol Hopefully I can get a bit more done tonight. ;)
Julie~Did you have any time to crochet today or did Cam have different plans for you?? Gotta love them kiddos. :manyheart I took Jaden to the barbershop for the very first time & he looks like a young man going off to the army (ya know the old fashioned army pics.?) Tabby - Oh what a brave guy Jaden was!! My two screamed and hollered at my mom (a hairstylist) about her "stealing" their hair :lol Great job on what progress you made even through distractions :yay
May 21, 2007, 07:50 PM
Krystal- sure we'll let you play along. When I saw your list, how could I turn it down ? You won't necessarily be breaking the rules, since you have your 2 objects that are already promised and have a time frame and already in the works, just stick them in one of the time slots .
Em- you are starting out small, which is good for your first day-- and what do I try but to tackle my biggest project on the one day of the week I have my 5 year old grandson all day. Let's just say I was not real productive today, but he is at baseball practice with Papaw now, so I will devote some more time to mine tonite .
I had the square I wanted to make bigger (colors are bands of coffee brown and an off white with flecks of brown in it) - but none of the squares in my pile went well with it, so I've begun to add to the granny - 5 rows so far - so I can get it to lapghan size. I added a floweret of sorts in green over the center circle, then added bands of taupe, then green, then I'll use taupe again, maybe more green, and end with coffee.
I'm making it more narrow on the sides by using the hdc instead of dc there. I won't do any more tonight (baby ghan is calling) but I need maybe 5 or so more rows to finish this masculine lapghan - then on to edging and assembling more donated squares for Monday's charity crochet work. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!
Thanks for shepherding us, Julie!:manyheart
Had my appiontment to post today to sort out all my paperwork for my new job, wasnt sure how to get there cause I used my BF's sat nav last time. So asked my Dad if he would take me, had to go in my car cause his exhaust fell off yesterday and hasnt got round to fixing it.
Got there really early, waited for ages, but the women I was supposed to meet didnt turn up, so really annoyed about that. Just round the corner from my Dads on the way home and never guess what happened........? My exhaust fell off, :thair. Luckily dad had a spare one in the house and he spent 3 hours fixing it, its not completly fixed but will be ok for a few days, then had to go and get a bit of shopping and decided to get something form the chippy for dinner.
Got a splitting headache, had a bath and took some painkillers, not really in the mood for crochet, but managed to fill in my bingo sheet and do 1 square of the afghan for my dad.
Sorry about the :rant just needed to get it all off my chest, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
Athba-
I'd probably go with the orderly colors if possible, but I'm with Judy ,they will look nice either way, so if you don't have anough of each color to make the right pattern, then just randomly lay them out any way you like. And what grade would your score for linguistics be ? Do you guys get letter grades there, like A, B ,C or just numbers ?
Heather -you are certainly whipping through your projects. You have got to be one of the fastest cocheters I've run across ! What is the longest project you have ever done ?
Heather how was the trip to Walmart? I hope you got the colors you needed. I will have to make a trip for yarn but I don't need it yet. So probably next payday.
Julie, yeah I learned today that it is probably an *at-home* project now as it's a pain to fold up and put back into the bag when they are calling you to go into the doctors office. lol. I haven't done too much yet. Hubby works nights so after the kids go to bed we watch tv till he has to leave (around 11) and I crochet during that time. Wow, folks, I think I finally caught up with all the posts from today. I tried answering each and every one of you so if I left you out, I certainly didn't intend to .
Sorry you have to read 87 posts in a row now from Cowboy Bob ---
Athba- I know I havent gotten to your question yet about my ripple bedspread. I will have to go count the stitches. I know it is wide enough to hang down both sides of our bed. I think I made it 300-some stitches wide .
I need to go get some more done on it and will check in later tonite with the total rows made today. It probably won't be a lot, since it is so wide, it takes awhile to go across once ,but I'll chug away on it for a few hours tonite .
Dancing with the Stars is on tonite, so gotta watch that !
