Welcome to the new Sky CAL
The purpose of this group is to get all those UFO’s completed and get more organized .
We will work on a point system , one month at a time .
Each month, we will start with a clean slate and clear all points awarded for the past month .
The winner of the first month will receive a small item as a prize (price $ 2- $ 3 )
If you are the winner for that month, it will be up to you to send a prize to the winner of the next month, etc. That way, one person will not have to send all prizes .
What you work on each day will be your decision .As long as you are working on ANY project, you will get points for that day, based on the scale below .
Good luck and have fun !
Point System
One point a day for POSTING .
One point a day if you answer the question of the day .
One point for each small granny square .
One point for each row or round completed on a medium project ,such as a baby afghan, shawl or sweater .
One point a day for keeping and WRITING in a crochet journal .
One point for each separate Photo you share on Photo Friday.

( a photo of you crocheting in an unusual spot )
5 points if you change your avatar weekly, based on the theme that week. The new theme will be announced on Friday.
You also get an extra 5 bonus points each time you change your avatar again during the week, as long as it is still in the theme we are going with that week. You can only get points for one change a day , though .
Five points if you recruit a new member to join the group .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Ten points for a preemie afghan completed .
Ten points if you give the item to someone and have a photo of them WITH the item .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
25 points for a completed afghan .
Added Bonus points – Each morning, I’ll choose a secret post number for the day . Whoever posts on that number will get 5 bonus points .
Each morning I will also write down a color of yarn. If that is the color you are using that day you get 5 bonus points.
****New & Improved ******
THE DEAD ZONE
-- if you pick ONE HOUR A DAY as your CROCHET hour-- that means no cleaning, cooking, laundry, or POSTING in here -- and dedicate that one hour to CROCHET -- give yourself 5 bonus points for that hour.

Jenni, I'll check out Walmart first. I only need a little bit since it's to finish up this baby blanket. I thought I had enough but :no I don't have an AC Moore here. We might have to do a swap of AC Moore yarn for some HL yarn :lol That would be fun to do. I think I'm going to head there this morning since I have to get some milk and juice anyway. Will let you know what I find there.
Oh and Jenni when I read your post to Wendy I read that you were sending out a research party for her. I was sitting there trying to figure out why you wanted a research party :lol

Jenni yeah it was getting a bit late for me, Im normally on here at 7 or so but was watching tv in the dead zone and trying to crochet up a storm. Your wedding sounds great, and just goes to show its not what you look like that counts but how you enjoy the day.
Judy there wouldnt be much room now if your dogs are still sleeping on your bed at night. Our 2 cats come in and sleep under the bedspread every night, but they wait till your nearly asleep then they come to my side and paw at the quilt and you have to lift it up for them and then they stand there and decide if they want to go in or not.
Rox the Wii sounds great, and I would like one but not sure if we were to get one whether we would get enough use out of it. The playstation 2 is sitting there now hardly being used.

Sparkie stopped sleeping on our king sized bed when he got bigger (he's 105 pounds now) and figured out there was more room to stretch out on the floor:lol
Jenni - our wedding reception was in our church basement, catered by my family and my Mom made my wedding gown - she was a great cook and terrific seamstress:)
And we'll be married 40 years in December:manyheart

Yeah, Jenni, 2 German shepherds. Susie just turned 9 years old and Sparkie will be 2 years in Dec...he's a real baby, too. Spoiled rotten - guess that was to be expected: from the time we brought him home at 7 weeks he shared our bed...specifically, my pillow, from the beginning. Always slept through the night that way.:manyheart

LOL Wow a German Shepard sharing your pillow! Somehow I would think that would be a bit difficult now! Awww your doggies seem so sweet. Almost makes me want a dog but then again I have two small children and a big 27 year old child to clean up after, so I guess no dogs for me for a bit. Just goes to show it isn't the amount of money that you spend on a wedding. I don't know if I mentioned but my dad and uncle both fired up the grill right after the ceremony and we had a bring a dish type thing so it basically was like a big ole picnic.
LOL Donna I had to go back and make sure I hadn't written Research, it was early so ya never know. Ohhh a swap of AC Moore and Hobby Lobby yarn I would be up for that!! Although AC doesn't have thier own line of yarn but they do have Tons of really lovely yarn like the Moda Dea yarn that my hubby wanted me to make into a blanket for him. 5 dollars a skein and only 1.5 ozs in a skein I'm thinking NO :no Well if you don't find any let me know and I will get you a skein then, I only need 5 skeins and the mill ends come with 3 skeins in a package so I can send you the lone skein I wont need.
Wendy I am just happy you are ok I thought maybe you might have seriously injured yourself sewing those squares together. You have to be careful with those little needles you can puncture a vein or something :lol Did you get a bit done durning your dead zone?

Long day at the hospital. Tim had his test, then they took him to Day Surgery Unit, and I slept pretty much till he went up for surgery, and some afterwards, too. I was just exhausted, and still am.
He got the suprapubic cathater and they cleaned out the wound in his leg; but I won't know till I talk to his primary doctor tomorrow how bad it was...mom said something about osteomyelitis...which is BAD, but hopefully it isn't. Poor guy needs a break somewhere.
OH, Kathy, I sure hope it isn't osteomyelitis. I'm glad you got through the day okay.

Good morning everyone.
Krystal, I really like your bag. It looks like it will hold a lot.
This is my only day off until the weekend. I really need to just stay away from here and get some work done. Between reading this thread and crocheting, I'm spending a lot of time sitting in this chair.

Jenni, Sparkie was too big for me to pick up when he was not quite 3 months old - he grew so fast! I'll have to get hubby to scan a pic of him when he was 2 months and on my bed - you can barely see his head against the paneling on the wall and all the blankets!

Goodmorning Ladies!
Judy- I'd say yes its a good thing i'm young, especially since i have 9 more hours of training tonight.... but there are some spry older folks who are there.... its them i'm not sure how make it though the night, by our 9pm break they look about ready to drop...poor people!
I want a big dog! My choice would be a German Shepard mixed with a Husky... my aunt has one and she says its the perfect combo.... now if only my landlord would let me have one....
I have my wedding costs down to about 3,000 if we do it my way.... family party, like how Jenni described hers.... its around 8,000 to do it my fiance's way... even at the 3k we don't have any money left for any sort of honey moon... and we want to go somewhere! (preferably alaska!)
Okay I should really get ready for the day, working job#1 from 10-2 (might get to check in here during that time) then job #2 from 3-11.... thats only 12 hours today right? not bad:eek

Wendy- I forgot to mention that the wii is nothing like the ps2, its meant for non-avid gamers! I love it, its the only game system i've ever actually wanted(just can't find one) since the games are motion sensored you don't have to be good at the controls, and it makes it a family game. I can't wait to find one... i'd buy it in a heartbeat! Hope you have a good night!

Wendy glad you're okay and didn't puncture anything with them needles. Did you make a dent in your square pile?
I didn't see any white at Walmart but a friend said she might have some in her stash so I'm going to see what she has. I'm all for a swap Jenni. You'll have to give me a couple paydays to get everything ready for you though. We could set it up to swap with each other November 1st. :yes I could have a box ready for you by then I think. :lol
Judy he was such a cute little baby. He has gotten huge. I'd love to have a german shepherd. We'll probably end up with a mutt (which I love) or a lab. Hubby's favorite breed is a black lab.

Judy
Do you read his books or your husband or both ? I have never read one of his, but we have a couple here I think .
and I have a question about German Shepherd dogs.
I have seen a lot of them walk like their back legs are out of joint or something,, they have a certain "walk" ..it's a little hard to describe, the front legs walk regular but the back ones walk like they are in slow-motion. Is that how they all walk or do they get some type of hip disorder when they get old ? Maybe I have just seen real old ones that walk like that.
Like I said , I know nothing about dogs.
Years ago, one of the policemen in our town lived at the end of our street and he had a german shepherd dog for the police drug-sniffing dog . He was HUGE !!!
Anyhow, he got loose one day and showed up in our yard . I saw he had a policeman badge on his collar, so I went out and started talking to him and got him to walk clear home with me.
The policeman got a chuckle out of it - he said it's a good thing I didn't smoke marijuana or the dog would have taken me down and I would have had to lay there til someone rescued me .
I never have smoked it yet, but there are days when it might sound a little ENTICING .
( joking -- kids do NOT try that at home . )

We have a black lab for a neighbor - he's very old. He's a real sweetheart but not the brightest bulb in the package as they say. He used to eat their small landscaping rocks when he was a pup:lol
They need love, as all dogs do, and supervision! We always crate-trained our guys - lost too many carpets and pieces of furniture to boredom/separation anxiety.
They still love the crates and are often found in there taking naps.
We can't picture our home without a dog...

Julie, Gs dogs get arthritis as they age (Susie is on joint meds) which makes it hard for them to get up from the floor, esp on slick floors. Some have a bit of hip dysplasia (ball joint of leg doesn't fit completely into hip socket) and young dogs can have agreat deal of difficulty walking/running if this is present. It's genetic, so reputable breeders check medical records before breeding.
Susie runs pretty well for an old lady with auto immune joint problems, etc. She loves chasing Sparkie and he loves it. It'll be rough for him when she passes on to the Rainbow Bridge.
And our 1st shep my husband had "Schitzhund" trained (police-style training) and she was so good she would stop doing something in a heartbeat when we would call her name. Yet she was an angel with our son and his friends. We had her when Philip was a baby...when he was 4 years old (with hubby) he would walk her on the leash.
Their training is why your neighbor's GS dog was so obedient and good with you. It's the unloved and untrained dogs who are "iffy" to be around.
Anytime you ask a question of me you'll get a book:P
...and I've always read his books (not the technical ones, though). Phil always read so much for work he rarely did so for pleasure.

WOW over 10,000 posts!
Cara - Does your Nephew have a job? He should get one so he stays out of your hair during the day.
Wendy - I think I'd wear a gothic style white dress, but my younger sister will probably be my maid of honor (older sister already refuses), and orange is her fav color, so the bridesmaids would wear orange.
Jenni - your wedding sounds like fun! That's kind of how I want my wedding to be, but in a park since none of us really have a big enough property, except my aunt that lives a bit far from civilization out near Lancaster. My sister would probably volunteer to make us a cake, she's been trying to get more into making cakes, but I"m not sure I'd want her to go through all that hassle, esp since she already told me she didn't want to be the maid of honor...seems to me she doesn't want responsibilities...or maybe she just doesn't want to wear a fancy dress.
We've got a PS2 here, and we play guitar hero the most. Other than that I don't really play. I'm a tetris type of person, but Chris play Final Fantasy and a few other games once in a while.
Jessica - Chris and I want to go to Alaska too! I'd like to take a cruise out of Seattle. A few years ago my family and I took Amtrak across the northern states, it was beautiful! We stopped in Seattle for a few days and had lots of fun. Then we took the Coast Starlight down the coast to LA, then we took the souther route back home stopping in Flagstaff for a few days.
It's about time for me to get my dad started...I might research Halloween wedding when I take a break from everything else today. A lot of cleaning and organizing on my list. Mainly stuff that wasn't finished from yesterday.

I was informed yesterday that I am his job :lol He runs me on errands and, in theory, helps me around the house. Oh well their house should be complete in about 7 weeks. If it doesn't get into a rainy spell here. Then he goes home :tup

I mean not that he isn't adorable now but you know how puppies are, that is just sooo precious!! Good thing you got your pillow back now though!
Donna-A swap would be fun and I agree with the time line, hey I'm military too so I know just how it is :yes Email me or I will email you later and we can talk more about this swap... And if your friend doesn't have the white I will send you a skein on the 15th. (oh and no guilt here, I kinda figured she wouldn't want me to put the poor kiddos to work :lol)

DD was THRILLED to have her bag. I hope it holds up to all the trials she's going to put it through. I fixed a few mistakes last night and finished it up. It's CUTE, if I do say so myself. We've decided it needs a flap, so that is next on the list.
Have a great day everyone. I've got stuff to do now.

I just got done the Dead Zone and finished up 2 stripe squares. I think I've got 6 left to make, and about 10 of the heart squares. The take about 1hr each, and I'm just hoping I don't run out of yarn in the kit...although I did buy 3 kits b/c they were only $10 so I couldn't pass it up!
Time to play some Pogo games, then food, then cleaning.

Thanks Amy. This will be the last color. Then I start over with the dark brown and redo the colors to form the pattern. If I keep the purple, it will be coffee, country blue, dark purple, off white, windsor blue, coral pink, brown, aran fleck, the greenish teal, and then pale plum. Then I start over with the coffee and do it all again till it's the right width.

hey everyone!
Lots of chatter this morning!
I know a GS X Husky would shed a lot, but I think i'd be willing to stay on top of it. Not ready to have kids yet, so i'm thinking a dog is a good transition.. Just have to get it to enjoy brushing... I think I'm moving in December so when we do we will definitely be looking for a place that allows dogs... then maybe make him a Christmas present!
I went to the 99 dollar sale... nothing in my size... or a style I liked when I went. I got my dress at a place called Hussey's Hardware in Maine, Its moto: beer guns and wedding dresses, we've got it all... LOL, they actually had the largest selection of any place I went. It was great, I think even special ordering the size it cost 109 dollars.... not bad at all, and all it needs is a bit of pinching under the arms, since its strapless I want it to fit really well, but my Grandma is going to do it for me!
Well looks like my week off from work isn't going to happen, I wasn't scheduled at all, but one of the managers send out an email saying if anyone wanted hours just to let him know.. so I'm going to work 8- 430 the rest of the week... its okay i need the money...

I will never buy another thing from David's Bridal if I can help it. I've had too many bad experiences. The first was for my brothers wedding. I was a bridesmaid and that's where we got our dresses. I had them order a size 4 in the color she wanted because it fit perfectly. When I went to pick it up, they ordered a 6, or could only get a 6. Was that my fault? They wanted me to pay for the alterations! I said NO WAY! I certainly didn't pay for them, I'm not sure if my SIL did though. I had another bad experience when I went for my sisters best friends wedding. Again I was a bridesmaid, and the dress fit fine, it just needed to be hemmed A LOT! So, I asked it we could keep the excess fabric, they said sure. When I went to pick up my dress, there was no excess fabric to be found. I was furious!
Sorry about the rant, I just can't really stand that place.
I got half of the kitchen counters cleaned off and scrubbed the stove top. The other half will be next, then I get to sweep and take some excess stuff to the basement, or wherever I decide to store it.

After reading 20-30 pages of this thread, I am exhausted. :lol (In a good way) I decide not to do tally this month. I am kinda burnt out on many things. I take two days off to recover. I finally did some crochetting last night, few rows of sage on diagonal blanket.
This weekend, I will do yarn shopping for some gift projects. I am so glad that temps are cooler now, down to 80's. It's nice to wake up to 75 degree in the morning :yes
Have to do bills, then whole budget beside few other things today. Have to make sure I have some bucks for yarn this month. :P

We went and saw Tim just now. They have him sitting up in his wheelchair (to clear anesthesia from his lungs) and his NP just had changed the dressing on his hip. She said it looked ok, and it is NOT a long incision, like I was afraid of, because it would be more painful for Tim. They gave him a dose of morphine just before we got there, so he was SOUND asleep, but definately not in any pain.
Apparently there was some infection to the bone, but the surgeon's report wasn't in Dr. McCagg's hands, so she's paging him for the details and will fill me in tomorrow, unless there is something urgent to tell us. Basicly, it will be the same antibiotics for a good long time to make sure we get all the infection out of his system.
I have to go email friends, since I STILL can't find my cell, and all my numbers are in there. I was meaning to transfer them to the comp, too. Let this be a lesson, SAVE THOSE PHONE NUMBERS ON PAPER, TOO!

Morning everyone,
I hope you all had a great day.
Judy your furbabies are gorgeous and they obviously get along with each other which is great. Do they both sleep together or do they have there own beds.
Donna I think your idea of moving the purple will make it look better, it just doesnt look right next to the green. Overall you have made great progress and I like the effect of all the colors in there. How big are you going to make it.
Cara your certainly getting loads of rain there, can you send some our way. Is it still hot there as well or has it cooled down now.
Heather your going well with the tote, how much yarn did you buy for the tote, is it going to take more than what the pattern says.
Jessica hows it going. Your working now instead of having a break but at least you will have some money to buy heaps of yarn.
Rox 30 pounds to send something that weighs 2.4kg is not too bad unless you were to halve the package.

Good Morning Wendy.
Kathy, I hope you get good news tomorrow from the Dr.
All this talk of weddings is kind of exciting. Mine was 12 1/2 years ago. For some anniversary - like 15th or 20th - I'd like to renew our vows and have another wedding-type thing. Nothing too extravagant - but then neither was our wedding. It was very nice, but small. I did wear a traditional white dress, which has been hermetically (sp?) sealed and sitting in my closet ever since. Not sure if it will ever come out of that box.
Spent my Dead Zone doing two more rounds on the Venom RR. Did I mention I'm ready to be done with this one? 6 more rounds to go.
Think I want to work on something else for a while. Maybe I'll get that baby blanket out since it's the next one "due" after the Venom.

Wendy, the pups get along really well - 99% of the time. Occasionally there will be a "testing time" over a toy or something, then Susie, the old lady always wins. Sometimes she chases Sparkie in the yard and he gets so scared his fur stands up along his back. He SHOULD be scared - she hasn't always played nice with her furry siblings.
They sleep wherever they want - she usually has her back against the front door downstairs - tile is cool in summer and radiant heat in the floor in the winter. Sparkie usually comes upstairs and sleeps on one of the blankets I made for him (he is the classic GS dg - always with his favorite human in the family). Other times he and Susie are tail to nose, and stretched out in the hallway. It's cute.:manyheart

Ok For Judy and Krystal who are bothered by my other baby I will take down the avatar. Just to let you all know I do NOT under any circumstances let her crawl on me!! The only time she is allowed out of her tank is when the wood chips are being changed and only hubby does that. The closest I get to touching her is to reach in and "pet" her rump but that's about it. BTW they are soft like cats.
Ok give me a few minutes to change the avatar
Oh Tammy your bird is so perty!!! JJ wants a bird but then when he gets around one he kind freaks out a bit with the flying/flapping. So are your birds allowed to just be free in the house?

Jenni and Judi - Baloo is a mid sized bird, so he will probably live another 10 years. When we are home, yes Baloo is allowed free reign out of his cage. Beeper is not. Baloo was handraised and we got him before he was a year old. He doesn't like other people tho' We don't have many people come over, so he is only used to DH and I. Beeper was not hand raised, so he is not allowed out of his cage. I'll snap a pic of him, cuz he has beautiful colors.
Another day at school, today we have our first assembly for our fall fundraiser.

Wendy thanks. I finally got caught up to where I was yesterday morning. I'm going to work on it again today and try to get some progress done on it. I haven't decided how wide to make it yet. I will probably keep working on it till I run out of yarn. Or it gets wide enough to curl up under it.
Amy good luck with VS.
Oh all these little furbabies are so cute. Makes me wish we had one again.:)
Jenni, I'm so glad I missed the spider picture :yes I just like Judy with them.
Tammy, your featherbaby looks pretty.
Wendy we got married in February and all I remember was it was a little chilly. There was snow on the ground since it was February in Alaska. :lol We had a simple justice of the peace thing. Then that summer his family gave us a blessing ceremony and reception.

Hi, Rox...
I like the idea of small parcels (if affordable) rather than one. Lots more surprises for your SP!:D
You sound like you're doing really well with this - saw the very pretty yarn you were gifted with on the TY thread, too! Have fun with it!
Iam not sure if it's gonna work out cheaper, I thought it would, but have to send each parcel international signed for, cause you need to have a tracking number and it's £3.50 per parcel. Only sent a med size jiffy bag with half a dozen things in and it cost nearly £7. So not sure what Iam gonna do yet, the parcel I was gonna send would have cost over £30, but if I keep it under 2kg then it's £20 plus the £3.50. The money that I save sending smaller parcels I will spend on the tracking, so I think it will work out about the same.
Also I didnt realise that you have to fill a label in for customs stating whats in the parcel, so it wont be a suprise now, as she will know whats in there before she opens it. :(
And the syupid post office didnt have any brown paper, so cant wrap parcels up anyway.
Will have to get some tomorrow now.
Received another parcel this morning, arrived b4 I got home from work, BF had opened it, have 3 books from my sp

Good morning all, I'm loving the furry avatars!! And Jessica, I love the guinea piggy!!!! I had two of them many, many moons ago when I was first married. Mortimer & Matilda (Mort & Tillie for short) .... they were so much fun. They learned to raise their obnoxious squeal when I opened the refrigerator door - they thought every time it opened they were getting a carrot treat! :eek
My Winnie is waiting for his morning "walkies." I'm making progress on the pineapple 'ghan, will update with a pic by tomorrow. Had to frog 5 rounds earlier this week, I was so annoyed with myself.

Ok so No more spider pictures I promise :yes I reread my post last night and I kinda sounded mean and I apologize...Don't know why I wrote it like that...Might have been the two fully grown men sitting next to me pestering me.
Wendy-My anniversary is July 21st and when we got married it was blistering hot! It wasn't bad for about a week before then the day of my wedding I think it was about 100 degrees. The worst part was my wedding dress has 4 or 5 layers to it :eek But it was kinda nice cause in all the pictures instead of looking as white as a ghost I had lots of color!
Tammy-Beeper sounds like a muppet name for some reason....I tried talking hubby into letting me get a bird and he keeps telling me no. I try to use the whole "well you got a tarantula" arguement and all he says is "you got the cat and the two kids isn't that enough?" Oh well Baloo is so beautiful.
Donna-does it look better with the purple moved?
Norma-LOL that is cute!!! Everytime I open one of those pull top cans of fruits or veggies KC comes running and won't leave me alone. He thinks it's soft cat food...he can't have soft cat food anymore cause he has stomach issues, he has to have really expensive purina one or science diet dry food!!
Ok I think that is everyone. I hardly did any crocheting yesterday. But I did get a round done on Danny's RR so only 7 more rounds to do. I am hoping to finish it by tomorrow evening so I can fill the two empty spots with new WIP for christmas. Oh I was telling our friend about the whole pet thing going on in here and he told me to post a picture of him because apparently he his my other pet :lol but only during weekdays cause he goes home to his other family on the weekend :lol Boy do we have some weird friends!

It was a lovely suprise!
Lady at post office said I had to list every item in the parcel, luckly this was just a med size jiffy bag.
Not sure if I can send half the items I have due to regulations or something, will have to see if there is a list of things I cant send so I know what to keep out of the parcel.

The only wedding I've been to with bad weather was my cousins Valentine's wedding this past year. They decided that they'd get married on Wed. Feb 14th. Don't you know it started snowing that morning and didn't really ever stop. So, we went for the normally 45min drive to the church, that probably took well over an hour. I was scared to death because of the snow all over the place and people around here have no idea how to drive when it even flurries, since we don't get snow as often as we used to. It was a beautiful ceremony, but they didn't really have a reception...at least they had a few goodies to snack on while they did pictures, then they came in and said 'hi' and 'thank you' to everyone. We left shortly afterwards since it was a school/work night and the weather was insane.
I got up fairly early again today b/c the business out back can't stay quite until 7am. It wasn't so bad today, but on mornings when I really want to sleep in, I get soooo annoyed! Today it made me get up and I got to watch Uncommon Threads at 7am. I learned how to do felting by hand and needle felting. It looked really cool, and extremely easy.
I'll be working on stripe squares and cleaning today.

All those things are okay to send from here across the pond, though when at the post office window I am asked (in addition to questions about hazardous, liquid, etc.) if there's anything perishable in the package. HOW that changes things I'm not sure.
I DID send nail polish once...the clerk wasn't sure if it would go through the symtem, but it did. In fact, when I told her what it was she was sorry I did. She thought it was okay, but couldn't be sure of it. It did make it to the intended recipient!

"How do I find out about Prohibitions and Restrictions in the country I’m sending to?
Every country has its own list of prohibited and restricted items that cannot be sent in the post to that country. Before sending you should check with Royal Mail customer services on 08457 740 740 to see if the contents of your item are allowed in the country of destination."
But, you should be fine with sending all those goodies to your SP.

Wendy, I had a pattern in mind for a gift (afghan) for a friend. Sort of a "happy", "cheer up" gift - she likes pink...and I'm trying to come up with something a tad "adult" for her. I saw a ghan made up of big squares, but with some rows of fun fur in there, and homespun - so I'm off to look for a few skiens of pink with different textures and looks. I thought of a RR, but want something less bulky - more portable - to work on, so it doesn't all sit on my lap!

In terms of the customs labels I wouldn't worry too much. I get Christmas and birthday parcels sent from family from Canada to the US and I always avoid looking at the customs sticker so that the surprise isn't spoiled. Or I ask hubby to take the label off so I can't see it or I make a point of covering it with my hand so I don't look while I am opening the package.
The weather on our wedding day Sept 10th was very nice. It was a bit cool and not at all hot. There was a huge rainstorm later in the evening but it started after everyone was in the hall for the reception and it quit raining by the time people were heading home.
Last night I hoped to finish my half moon shawl during my dead zone and I ran out of yarn :no :rant :thair :grumpy :sigh So I'll have to head out and get some more on SUnday afternoon. I'm looking for opinions...
I have a TON of fall colored yarns, and have been trying to think of the "right" pattern for them. I have a lot of brown and a lot of gold, then a few of each of the other fall-ish colors.
http://www.freepatterns.com/list.html?criteria=zebra&x=0&y=0 If you look at the "Zebra Flair" afghan pattern here, do you think it would look good if I did the brown for black, the gold for white, and then the other colors as the "stripes"? Or do you think I should find a different pattern to use these with?

Pardon me for chuckling, but that dog is the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life .
If you ever need to unload him for any reason, let me know . He makes me laugh everytime I look at him .
Well, I would say you could try the zebra stripes in fall colors if you want ,just start it to see how it looks .
I would think maybe wider stripes of some of the colors, then narrower stripes of the others might look best -- it might be a little BUSY if each color was the same size, so I think I'd balance it out with a lot of dark- like browns, then put the brighter colors in narrow stripes .
Just my 2 cents.

Finished my Dead Zone. I got just over one and a half striped squares done. They are working up fairly quickly since I did the starting rows last night. Got 4 left to finish. Then I'll have to figure out how to keep up the steam when working on the sc heart graph for the other squares. I might also pick up the 63 cables book and do one of those after every heart square just to keep me from getting too bored with the hearts.
What is everyone else working on today?
I can't believe that I've got so few WIPs at the moment...and if I ever get in gear, I'll finish up the ones that are only a few rows from completion. What am I waiting for???

We got married on St. Patrick's Day - we were planning to have the wedding on 3/18, a Saturday, but where we had our wedding/reception, it would have cost about twice as much to do the exact same thing on Saturday, so we moved it up a day to 3/17. You'll never guess who showed up on my front porch this afternoon - the kitty who followed us home yesterday. This has got to be the snuggliest cat I've ever seen. He (Don't know if it's a girl or a boy) likes to be picked up, snuggles into your neck and has the motor on full power.
He seems in too good of shape to have always been a stray - obviously not starving (didn't even have any interest in the water I put out for him) I sat out on the front porch with him for quite a while and when I came in he sat by the front door and cried. I borrowed a carrier from my neighbor and as soon as the kids get home from school (in about 5 minutes) we're gonna take him to a vet nearby and see if they'll scan him to see if he has one of those chip thingies. I really think he belongs/belonged to someone and got lost (although I think it's rare for cats to actually get lost) we'll see what happens. Look how cute he is...

I started on the patches quilt on Cara's site. It's going to be what I do squares for on the football challange It also covers my fall quilt and next happy house quilt.
I guess I'll do a dead zone now and see how many squares I can kick out.

What a cute kittie :manyheart Too bad my hubby is allergic to all sorts of furballs :( and has asthma to boot :sigh I'd love to have critters :yes
I just finished up a one skein scarf (from the SnB HH book) out of the yarn I received as a RAOK :manyheart It is a really nice (picture to come tomorrow :) ) and really FAST and easy! This evening I'll do my dead zone while hubby is at school and get some work done on the afghan I'm making him for Christmas (a patriotic flag blankie) I think I may start working on a Nordstrom knock off bag now though - I like the look of those :yes

Well offhand, I can't think of a famous animal that hasn't already been mentioned. However in keeping with the spirit of the day, I want to share a picture of our dog, Sophie. Sophie is quite a character. She is a Brittany and is not quite two years old. One of these days we are going to break the news to her that she is just a dog.

Good Morning/Evening to you all.
Barbara that is a cute puddy tat. I bet your hoping he doesnt belong to anyone. Have you checked with vets to see if anyone has a cat missing.
Krystal the zebra flair pattern looks great, are you going to do it in the fall colors.
Cindy what a cute dog and he likes swimming in the pool too, does he just jump in, he is obviously not scared of the water. When we had our Rottweiler he sure was scared of water and didnt even like stepping on wet grass, he was such a sook.
Its friday my day off and the first day of The Royal Show(its like a country fair) I am taking the girls and we are going to get show bags and they are going on lots of rides. There is a craft area and a cats and dogs show. Its going to be lots of fun.

She will get in on her own, if she feels like getting wet. Luckily she never gets in unless someone else is in there. Once in a while she needs to be coaxed in and then she won't stay in for long. She likes to float on the tube though.

Jessica - nice fish. DH used to have a tank, but no longer. In our 16 years of marriage we have had, 2 cats, a ferret, an iguana, a 30 gallon fish tank, and 6 birds. Mind you, we are not suppose to have pets, live in an apartment. Landlord said could have caged pets. After 1st cat died, we got the 2cd one and he made us get rid of it. (He's with my Mom in FL now). Didn't know about ferret. Knew about iguana, but didn't realize it roamed the apartment and also thinks the birds stay in their cages. ;)
We are pet people, hubby and I. He more dog (which we have not had)and me more cat.

Scary night. I was just about to tell y'all that I also have 7 chickens, which have sort of become pets. I didn't think they COULD be pets, but I've grown fond of the 3 older ones, and just got 4 new chicks last weekend. Was going to take a picture tomorrow AM to show off, when DH tells me one of the chicks is MISSING.. :eek Of course, it's pitch black out, and he noticed it gone this afternoon. WHY didn't he tell me then, so I could look in the day? So, of course I grabbed the flashlight to go out looking in the dark. Under the coop, around the coop, IN the shavings (in case he died and got covered), all around the run. Well, I find the helpless little thing (he's only a few weeks old) 5 feet OUTSIDE of the run. Somehow he must have gotten under or around the fencing and couldn't get back in. It's been so HOT here, and he didn't have water, so I'm hoping he'll be OK now. He seemed perky enough, I'm hoping he's no worse for the wear. His name is Minos, because he's got one gray feather on his back that's sorta shaped like a bull's horns. (DS loves mythology and named him).
I would have felt so bad if he had just disappeared!

Sherri - I LOVE the baby dresses.
Tab - Sorry you're still not feeling well. Glad you're going to see the Dr. Hope he/she can help.
I took the kitty to the vet to be scanned, but she (we're pretty sure she's a girl now) doesn't have a microchip. Couldn't stand the thought of her being out another night on her own, so DH went to the store and picked up some food and a litter box.
I made some signs that I will post tomorrow so if someone is missing her they can call. She's all snuggled up on the couch right now looking cute. No, I wouldn't be disappointed if an owner doesn't turn up, cause she seems like such a sweet cat.
The true test is when it comes time to go potty. I have an absolute zero tolerance policy about using the litter box. If she can't or won't do that, I'll have to let her go - to a safe place, of course.
Haven't crocheted at all today - this cat thing could really cut into my :hook time, but we'll see.

Chickens can be pets! I had one (raised from an egg our hen laid) that would perch on your shoulder the minute you walked into the chicken coop. Of course, there was the rooster, Potpie; so named because that's what we wished he was. He'd spur you in a heartbeat. More than once I had to dropkick him to get him off my foot.
Last time I had chicks, when they went outside it was to a tall but roofless pen, and one by one they disappeared. My daughter said she heard an owl hooting in the trees right by the pen. I wonder if it was saying thank you for dinner?

Hi Wendy!
not too sure why I'm up, but I am.
I had a weird dream about spending the night some where with my sister, and we were sleeping on a sofa. Guess what I was using as a blanket? The friendship quilt ghan we made for Julie! I guess we went to visit Julie...it was strange. And there was this really cute furry gray kitty that kept trying to get under the blanket so I would pet her.
I think I've been spending way too much time with you ladies lately!

Maybe it is Wendy. I was on a toy kick last week, and this week I've been making stripe squares for the Flag ghan I started months ago. Maybe next week will be saltines.
So, what kind of goodie bags did you and the girls pick up today?

When she got on there and it started going so high, I could see that she was crying, she hated that ride.

Heather- welcome back to the Saltine Brigade ,as someone yesterday named it !
Amy-welcome to the morning crowd, but by now, you are probably snoozing away again, I hope.
Wendy - it looks like you guys really had a fun day. Cam would have loved that scarey ride with the red face on it- he loves scarey stuff .
Kathy -hope you were able to get some rest too . Seems like the sinuses are kicking up and bothering lots of you. Mine are a little ornery this week, but not too bad. Sam is pretty sick with his. He gets it worse than me .
You all have a great day .

Karen
Thanks for sharing photos-- I love the green shawl for your mom. So pretty !
And what color is the baby afghan done in ?
Also, I made my DIL one of the one-skein scarves last fall. She liked it so much, she asked for 2 more in other colors, so I made her 3 of them .
I think one was in brown, one red and one black if I remember. Man, my old brain isn't what it used to be.
Glad you will get some extra hours off work today so you can kick back and relax a little .

KAREN: Love the baby blanket and half moon shawl in particular!! Where did you get the patterns?
KAREN and JULIE - did you both make the 1 skein scarf as long as the pattern calls for? I have the book it's in and was thinking of making it.

Yep Judy
It did turn out quite long, but my DIL loved it-- she actually wore the first one ( red) so much, it got stretched out to about double the length . She said that really LONG scarves were in style, and she'd know -- she looks like a fashion plate- BEAUTIFUL girl .

The pattern for the shells blankie is (one of my great aunts gave me this written out pattern many years ago) It is a really easy pattern and turns out so pretty:
Crocheted Baby Afghan
Materials:
14 ounces of baby or sport weight yarn (or 500 grams)
Size F crochet hook (I use 5mm)
Gauge:
2 shell patterns = 2 ½ inches; 2 rows = 1 inch (although I usually don't worry about the gauge too much) One pound of baby yarm has always been enough for me and I haven't run out yet
Pattern:
Ch 147.
Row 1: Work a shell of 3 dc, ch 1 and 3 dc in the 6th chain from the hook, *sk 2 ch, dc in the next ch, sk 2 ch, shell of 3 dc, ch 1 and 3 dc in the next ch. Rep from * across, end with a shell, then sk 2 ch, dc in the last ch. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: * In the ch-1 sp of shell work a shell of 3 dc, ch 1 and 3 dc, dc in the next single dc. Rep from * across. Work last single dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. Repeat row 2 for pattern working 56 more rows.
Finishing: Weave in all ends.
Border: Work a shell of 3 dc, ch 1 and 3 dc in the edge of work, skip about 1 ¼ inches, work another shell. Spacing shells evenly apart and closer together at each corner, work in shell pattern on all four sides. Join and break off.
The yarn I used for this one is Lion Brand Baby Soft and the color is Spring Green.
The pattern for the half moon shawl is a freeby from Lion Brand. There is a CAL going on for this and the link is on the first page of the CAL.
I did do the scarf as the pattern called and it is quite long. I think I would make it a bit shorter next time. I can wrap it around my neck twice and it still goes down to my waist.

This is my cousin's husband - I have teased him EVERY YEAR since they've been married ( about 20 now ) ,about being the most handsome man in the family. He used to turn RED all over, because he is pretty backward and doesn't like people paying a lot of attention to him .
Well, since this year was Pretty in Pink Reunion, he finally came out of his shell and played a good trick on ME .
Everyone there knew he was gonna do it before I did, but he put on his wife's TINY LITTLE pj top ( she's about a size 3 ), and came looking for me .
I'll tell you what , everyone in that building laughed so hard, we about brought down the rafters .
I heard someone tell him they were gonna post the photo at the lodge they belong to, so he has probably drawn more attention to himself than he ever thought he would.
Anyhow, he's a good sport and funnier than heck . Just bashful .
