Welcome to the new Sky CAL
The purpose of this group is to get all those UFO’s completed and get more organized .
We will work on a point system , one month at a time .
Each month, we will start with a clean slate and clear all points awarded for the past month .
The winner of the first month will receive a small item as a prize (price $ 2- $ 3 )
If you are the winner for that month, it will be up to you to send a prize to the winner of the next month, etc. That way, one person will not have to send all prizes .
What you work on each day will be your decision .As long as you are working on ANY project, you will get points for that day, based on the scale below .
Good luck and have fun !
Point System
One point a day for POSTING .
One point a day if you answer the question of the day .
One point for each small granny square .
One point for each row or round completed on a medium project ,such as a baby afghan, shawl or sweater .
One point a day for keeping and WRITING in a crochet journal .
One point for each separate Photo you share on Photo Friday.
Rainbow points- if you are making a scrap project, one point for each color used on it that week .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Five points for each row on an adult sized afghan .
Five points - Small items completed (dishcloths ,squares over 5 rounds ,small toys, hats ,scarves ,etc )
Five points if get a thank you in the mail from someone you made an item for .
Five points for a Flat Stanley Photo
( a photo of you crocheting in an unusual spot )
5 points if you change your avatar weekly, based on the theme that week. The new theme will be announced on Friday.
You also get an extra 5 bonus points each time you change your avatar again during the week, as long as it is still in the theme we are going with that week. You can only get points for one change a day , though .
Five points if you recruit a new member to join the group .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Ten points for a preemie afghan completed .
Ten points if you give the item to someone and have a photo of them WITH the item .
Ten points if you design a new pattern to share .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
25 points for a completed afghan .
Added Bonus points – Each morning, I’ll choose a secret post number for the day . Whoever posts on that number will get 5 bonus points .
Each morning I will also write down a color of yarn. If that is the color you are using that day you get 5 bonus points.
****New & Improved ******
THE DEAD ZONE
-- if you pick ONE HOUR A DAY as your CROCHET hour-- that means no cleaning, cooking,laundry, or POSTING in here -- and dedicate that one hour to CROCHET -- give yourself 5 bonus points for that hour.
Hey Gang! Did you see the Tricolor Tote free pattern of the day from Annie's Attic? http://www.anniesattic.com/free_pattern_day/index.html (I just love that pop up of the Gourmet Crochet Amigurumi Nativity set, don't you?) Remember, we cannot have enough totes!
The yarn, Landscapes Autumn Trails, called for in the pattern is $18/skein:eek at Lion Brand and they say it will felt. It's 50% wool/50% acrylic. But this site, http://www.discountyarnsale.com/pd_lion_brand_landscapes.cfm, does not recommend it for felting. They say that Patons Classic Merino is their favorite for felting.
I printed out that pattern...but will use whatever wool is cheapest for mine!:devil I'm lovin' totes these days...and thread...and......:hook
NiYa, thanks for sharing your projects. Love the scarf and the lapghan is gorgeous! How do you guys ever visualize a project so you can pick colors that make it look so beautiful! Love the half moon shawl, too. Found the pattern and now it's on my WIMs list, as if it needed another project. So, it would work out okay with an L hook and a worsed weight yarn? Pattern calls for N hook and bulky weight yarn. Did you add more to the pattern? Thanks for the links on scarf and the tapestry crochet; got the tapestry one bookmarked. The projects are absolutely beautiful but it looks so complex!
My first tapestry piece was a little cumbersome but once I figured out the technique I was hooked. Carol also has a yahoo group that I joined that is devoted to the technique and she is always willing to respond to member questions. She also teaches frequently at CGOA conventions.
I am a purple person so I can make almost any shade of purple work for me :yes . I held two strands of worsted weight yarn together and used the L Hook. I don't particularly care for Jiffy NiYa :yarn
15000 POSTS!?! Wow. We are talkative aren't we? :lol
Athba - Glad you're feeling better. :hug
Amy - Glad you got some hours for today after all. :yes
Roxy - I sure hope you found the kitty. :(
Kathy - Very glad to hear you don't have to have foot surgery. That just sounds painful. :yes
NiYa - I need to make time to try that tapestry crochet. Those are great pieces!
Judy - I don't like making wearables either. Tried to make my mom a sweater once and I swear the whole family could've fit in that thing :rofl It was awful.
Donna - Even my sister says you're justified about the pumpkin. She also said she'd be chasing them down and hauling them off to their parents insisting they buy a new pumpkin and she'd tell them if they ever smashed anything of hers again she'd smash....ummmm, well let's just say their boy parts.....but that's just the way she is :devil In fact, that might be overreacting :lol
Got 30 skeins of Vanna's Choice today :c9 Bunch of fabric to make bedding for Peyton (niece's soon to be born baby's name), some baby clothes at the Goodwill and a huge tote bag for $3.99 at Goodwill, too. I love tote bags. They're great for projects :yes
I'm actually gonna make a blanket for me out of it :lol DH and I use separate bedding (it was that or twin beds...don't ask :rolleyes) and I need a nice blanket for my side. He has the comforter because I get hot. But I'm gonna use that lush yarn for a blankie just for me :c9
Yes, things seem okay at the moment with wildfires. Dad was in the area for business.
Have this annoying sinus headache that refuse to go away. I am going to take a whole day off and rest up. Where is JulieKay? I don't see her today or did she sneak by me ?
Will be back in a bit :)
Cara, DH and I use separate bedding as well. Nothing gets tucked into the mattress when I make the bed, and every night, he pulls the layers he wants, I pull the layers I want. It makes for a very messy bed every morning, but better sleeping!
I am sewing together that LAST row of the dragonfly afghan. I have a few rounds of border to do after that, then just the weaving. There are a lot of ends, but I didn't feel like doing them as I went. I'm sort of in the mood to do them all at once this time around. Maybe I'll get it mailed out tomorrow, but kids have a half day of school, so who knows?
The cat is back, he did this yesterday as well, was out for over 5 hours, BF is gonna get a new back door and put a catflap in it, so I wont have to worry too much about them coming back.
Missed my hospital appiontment which was a cancellation, tried phoning to re-arrange, but no answer got put on hold everytime.
BF and I are thinking about going to Belgium for the treatment in the new year, it is half the pricce and no waiting list.
I would have to wait 3-6 months for another appiontment and they wont start treatment untill payment is made in full, and we won't have the money till the new year anyway (fingers crossed).
Just need to get both our passports re-newed, and I can book a consultaion and get the ball rolling, have been messing around for 5 years with the NHS and getting nowhere, it's now time for a second opinion.
Have been flitting from one project to the next recently and not really getting anywhere, gonna try anad concentrate on 2 items to get finished and start making stuff for the holiday swap.
Cara thats a great idea. Its amazing how one person can be so cold at night and the other is so hot. It sure makes it hard when you have the one blanket. Have you decided on a pattern.
Tammy have fun making squares. Thats what Im going to do today. Although the candy cane yarn is staring at me saying pick me pick me.
Krystal well done your nearly finished with the dragonfly ghan.
Diane hope you feel better soon.:hug
Roxy Im glad the kitty came back. He knows where his home is. I will keep my fingers crossed for you and hope you can get something sorted out soon.
Cara, 30 skiens of Vanna's Choice...WOW! What sort of blanket are you going to make?
Krystal, I'm tempted to go back to separate bedding,too. We have a King bed, but 2 mattresses which I've been treating as one. I did it before... separate bedding, but this time I could leave twin sheets laying on top... Phil has an electric blanket, which I HATE. I don't like to be warm when I sleep, either. Plus he's a restless sleeper. When he was away all I had to do was flip my cover back up over the pillow and the bed was made!:lol :lol
I have a goal now, for when I finally start making ME a ghan! My own blankie...:manyheart
Thanks for the ideas, my friends.
Hi, Wendy!
I've been crocheting the comfortghan like crazy! I figure 2 more times around the center panel, then about 12 or so squares, and I'm finished. Our friend's husband isn't doing well...so she can use this. It'll be there when it's needed the most...I've seen it happen like that.
Rox, you made some really pretty things for your SP! Thanks for sharing the pics of all your progress on the cardigan and pet blanket, too. You've been really busy!
This separate bedding issue sounds quite common. I'm always warm (and I haven't even run into the hot flash thing yet - heaven help us when I do :lol ) and hubby is always cold. I usually fall asleep with a bunch of blankies on and by morning most of them are pushed off me and there is a balnkie "hedge" between us :lol He will be sleeping in a sweatsuit with a pile of quilts and afghans ontop of him while I have far fewer layers on. Oh well...
Seriously, I saved my Caron SS for a modern looking (Mondrian style, I think it's called) ghan made up of different bright colored rectangles, etc, bordered with black. It is such a vivid pattern. One way for me to get bright colors in my bedroom!:devil
When Rich and I shared a room it was separate bedding all the way! I need lots of covers, he swears he doesn't then stole mine. Once we started working opposing shifts to allow one of us to be home for the kids, separate bedrooms made sense; and we get along a LOT better now that we don't fight over having the a/c on arctic chill (him) or having the mattress heater on (me) all winter.
Afternoon Everyone,
Haven't been here all week. It's been one of those weeks. Pet couldn't eat and after taking him to the vet, they had to grind down his teeth ( this happens every 4-5 months ) but when they did one tooth fell out and another is loose. So he is miserable. I have to feed him every few hours by hand, so no sleep happening here. DD is sick, again. Fun week.
Haven't read to many posts I'm afraid. But if someone has 1,000 points, not much chance I can catchup in 5 days.
Haven't crocheted at all this week. But maybe when I get off from here.
Catch ya later
Morning all
As last time, too many posts to answer ,so I wont try. nice to look at the photos so far of what you all are working on . I have been dabbling with a little of this, little of that, but not firmly concentrating on any one item .
I was interested in hearing how many of you have the same pillow and blanket malfunction that we have in our bedroom . We also have the same situation, although it's all in one bed with one set of blankets. Sam complains because he says he can't sleep with 100 pounds of blankets on him :lol ( which is a little over-exaggeration) .
I like a lot of blankets and have my feet wrapped up separately with a wad of blankets at the bottom. Sam has a bad furnace switch or something, because he is always too hot. You could set him in the North Pole, and within 3 days, all the ice would melt . I think Sam might be the cause of Global Warming . He NEVER wears long sleeves ,and it gets COLD here in the winter .
So it sounds like a lot of us have the same situation, one too hot, one too cold .
So it sounds like a lot of us have the same situation, one too hot, one too cold .
I have a warm-blooded hubby, too, Julie. What I finally did was to get one of the small down throws (washable one) to keep on my half of the bed. It's lightweight and keeps me quite toasty. That way we didn't have to load the bed with layers of heavy blankets to keep me warm. Now the bed temperature is "just right." You can find them on sale for about $20, and it's probably the right season to find them.
Hey folks
I heard on the news yesterday that someone did a survey and asked what famous person you would most like to be sitting next to on a long airplane flight.
Guess who won ?
Oprah Winfrey .
Second place :
Bill Gates .
Guess who I'd pick ?
Dr. Phil, so he could talk to me the whole time, and maybe pull out a few Valiums if his talking couldn't be heard over my screaming .
Just wondered who you guys would pick ????
Julie you got the post number.. Congratulations...
Julie I wanted to ask you something. Seeing as we have all been talking about blankets and being hot or cold etc. We then went on to talking about the ME Cal, now I know you were going to leave it till the end of the year. but I was wondering if you could start it now. Its getting colder over there and the girls might want to make something for themselves for winter. So I know your not wanting to tie yourself to a Cal at the moment but was wondering if we could do this now. We could somehow incorporate in this cal but as its your idea I wanted to see you about it and see if you could get it started and how you felt about that.
Good morning ladies :flower
Norma - Yes, I am like that. When I found that tote yesterday I said, "Finally a decent sized tote for my quilts"!!
Julie - :rofl Sam and I'd always be comfortable in the same room :yes You and Big Daddy could hang out in your parkas. We got us a pair of those electric throws last year because I thought they'd help my legs. But it's way too hot so I gave mine to the cats. They have their own room and now their own electric blanket :lol
Pauline - Really. Not trying to be a wise guy here but what kind of pet do you have that needs it's teeth ground down? Only two things I can think of are a horse or a beaver :lol Hope he feels better soon though :hug
Kathy - Hope you got some sleep :hug
Krystal - Grats on finishing the stitching on the dragonfly!! Have fun with those ends :D
I'm sure I missed someone :( But it's still early :blush Won't be doing much today as I've pushed too hard all week and my hands are killing me :( And I still don't have anywhere near 1000 points. There's no justice I tell ya :lol
Hey Wendy
Well, I guess we could go ahead and get it started now. My main reason for holding off was that a lot of the ladies work on several Christmas gifts this time of year and might not have the time to do it .
I'd also feel a little guilty ,after asking you and Donna to take on the Sky and Card group, then me start up a new one .
Wouldnt want to make anyone mad by doing that . :no
Will wait to hear opinions from some of you all . I really don't want to cause hard feelings with anyone ,so will honor you guy's comments, and feel free to be honest .
I know I havent held up my responsibilites here lately ,so if any of you wanna give me a good old fashioned tongue-lashing, now's the time.
NiYa, thanks for the nice link.
Donna - Even my sister says you're justified about the pumpkin. She also said she'd be chasing them down and hauling them off to their parents insisting they buy a new pumpkin and she'd tell them if they ever smashed anything of hers again she'd smash....ummmm, well let's just say their boy parts.....but that's just the way she is :devil In fact, that might be overreacting :lol
Mike told me that's a normal teenage boy thing to do that. We decided that we would like to save the $800 fee for breaking lease if we can. So we are going to try to ride it out but if something else happens we are outta here as fast as you can blink :lol He is even going to save 3 months rent out of the tax return so that we can leave the next day if we wanted to. So I'm not collecting boxes and newspaper since April and May aren't too far away. If we have no more problems we'll be out of here next June.
Rox, your pictures look wonderful. Wow you have definitely been busy. I love the hook case.
Morning Valerie. Welcome to the group. We have a nice bunch of ladies here that love to chat and help each other out and sometimes we even do some crocheting.:)
The main aim is to try and finish our projects. We have a point system which you will find in the first post. We add up our points and the winner at the end of the month gets a little prize from the winner of the previous month.
Also in my signature I have listed the color of the day and the project of the day. If your using this color its 5 points and if your doing the project then its 5 points. Also I list a post number and if you post on that number its also 5 points.
You dont have to keep track of points if you dont want to. It was just another way to try and get those projects done. Most of us keep finding new projects to do so of course its never ending.
So after all that, Welcome and just have fun.
Morning fellow Sky CAL'ers! Hope everyone is doing well (haven't read any posts yet...gotta run downstairs and wash my bed linens, mattress protector included so gotta get that one back on the bed asap).
I have a question of the Waves of Color tote. I've been a bit slow to progress with it cause of other stuff. But here's my question.
On Row 11, it says: Sc in same st as ch 1, skip 2 sc, work 5 dc in next st, skip 2 sc,
Then the repeat
*sc in next st, sk 2 sc, work 5 dc in next st (shouldn't it say sk 2 sc here?)*
Appears to me you need to sk 2 sc before and AFTER working the 5dc. Did you guys work it that way?
Our clocks are going back as well this weekend! I hope we don't forget any clocks or watches otherwise there will be confusion when DD goes back to school on Monday. :lol I don't like daylight saving, after 5 years of being in the UK I am still trying to get used to it. In South Africa we never had to do anything like that, clocks weren't reset unless ran out of batteries or had a power failure. :)
hello everyone
It only took me an hour to catch up:eek ...I spent most of yesterday running errands.. I didn't buy TOOOOOO much yarn:devil ... I got 2 skeins of suede yarn in black...I have no idea what to make with it.... I also got 3 skeins of chunky baby yarn
I bought myself a digital camera yesterday:clap now I just need to figure out how to use it:think ... I've always been a point and shoot type of person... I have my technical advisor (AKA...daughter #1 checking it out... if she can't figure it I'll go see my brother-in-law) so it might be photo Monday around here
As for the reason I have so many points... I don't have any real life to interrupt it 90% of the time.... My real life is crochet....:hook
Off to check on the other threads.... Later:)
Still way behind in reading the posts ( just finished with 14960) :lol I finished up 2 lapghans for the nursing home project and started on a doll carrier for DD.
Sitting here I just about hit the floor laughing. Kaila is looking through the Fisher Price toy catalog that came in the mail the other day and started to point out all the things she really wanted then said "Oh my I want everything on this page and these pages, I'll just have to bring this book to show Santa everything I want so he'll know." The way she said it so seriously just was so funny.
Oh well back to reading posts. :D
hey SHELLY- if you had 1 more skein of the suede; you could make an FBB. it takes about 2 1/2 with a j hook. :D and YAY on the digi cam. what kind did you get? if its an easyshare, i may be able to help.:yes anything else......not so much:blush
Athba: how far along are you? (with your FBB) im about halfway done, im in the middle of the straight rows. this is my 5th one, i have 4 more to make for xmas. :eek
Fisher Price is in my backyard, Heather.
My kids are even on some of the boxes. The way it works is this: you send in a pic of your kid with birthdate to them. They'll call a whole bunch of kids in the right age range. You take them to be photo'd, and get a gift certificate for $25 for free toys, whether your kid gets on the box or not. You wait until the toy comes out until you can see if your child made the box or not. Then, of course - you buy the toy! :lol
Okay, I'm going to try to catch up on all the posts. I'm only about 150 behind. I don't count the pages cause I have 20 posts per page and I think most of you have the default of 10. Course I could always count the pages and then double it, huh? So that's about 15 pages? Here goes. Probably gonna just hit the high spots like pictures for sure.
I told the lady at Wallie-world all I wanted was a simple camera to take pictures with.. and a way to post them on-line...this one came with everything even the software to do all kinds of fancy things to the pictures once you've posted them... I think I'll just finish up the 8 pocket tote and take it over to my sister Sunday and put my BIL's talented mind to work.. you should see some of the work he does.. he took the pictures at daughter#2's wedding as well as so many other occasions... he also works with computers and programming for his job... it is so nice to have talented folks in the family...
Athba, that is very pretty!
When is your wedding reception? I am very interested to learn your customs. For us, your wedding reception is the same day as your ceremony is and is considered part of getting married. An engagement party is just a small party that (some) people have to celebrate that the couple intend to get married someday. An engagement here does not give any legal or religious rights to the couple, they are still considered NOT married. It is fairly common for engagements to last YEARS, and couples break their engagements quite frequently.
More common in "today's" society is for couples to live together without being married or engaged. These people sometimes get married later when they wish to start a family, or they move on to a different relationship.
We will all get our culture lesson if you can tell us how things are for you in Kuwait. :D
q8_crochet
October 26, 2007, 04:46 PM
krystal bring you notes and pen the lesson started :lol
first we can get engage by a religous man and our marriege will be legal then i can talk to my husband and go out with him as much as we like
we can make engagment party small one which i made and then make a big wedding party any time we decide
after the wedding i can live with hubby unless i didn`t want to have wedding party the wedding party caost alot at least 30000 so it`s so expensive
our parties doesnt include men and women only the groom will come in and kiss the brid on her head with the closest men to both of them then the men gets out and the groom will stay with the bride for a while they will give each other juice and cut the cake throw the flowers to the back for unmarreid girls (i didn`t throw my boucket it was very heavy , expensive and so unique model)
then we will have reception day only for women to congratulate and give presents
i didn`t have wedding so i`ll wear white in my reception although my tammy is getting bigger :lol
Hello Tracy, Karen, Diane, Tammy
Hope everyone with headaches or ill feelings get back to feeling 100%.
Whoa, I made Dream Catcher with RHSS Candy Print and it came out to about 13"! Ripped out last row and will now have to add a row of sc to finish it off. Some of you said you were surprised how well my 1st one came out in a variegated yarn but the pic in the pattern is a variegated...not a very busy one. Maybe it's called a multi. Is there a difference between multi and variegated?
Where did the ME CAL get its start? First thing I read about it was in Judy's post #15016 so I musta missed something.
Gonna have to find out when My Name is Earl comes on here. Sounds like I'd like it.
Hot Flashes...didn't have too much problem with them. At least there were no night sweats. I like calling 'em Personal Power Surges, though! Cara, you're so creative even with words. And Mt. Pillomanjaro...that is just too funny. My ex is Mt. St. Portly or Mt. Hillomanjaro.
Robert is so sweet. No way would he sleep without me. He sleeps in his sweats without cover and I sleep in t-shirt and shorts usually with the sheet and light cover. But it's definitely not uncommon for couples to have separate bedrooms. The separate bedding is a good idea, though, for those who need it.
Thought of something else about the pumpkin incident. Somewhere (I know some of you know where) it says to repay evil with kindness and that when you do show love to your enemies it's like heaping hot coals of fire on their heads. So, when these kinds of mean things happen, do something nice for the little criminals. Make them a pumpkin and put it at their front door. Go heap some hot coals of fire upon their heads. Maybe they have been deprived and have never had a carved pumpkin. You just don't know.
Donna, packing is definitely a tough job and maybe now you're gonna have to pack up your stuff? Hope friend comes to help or somebody. I once had a boss who loved to go help people move. Funny man!
Kathy, so glad you don't have to have foot surgery! Whew! What's that versatile square pattern you found? I've come to like Eternity Squared and Circle of Friends for 8" and Dream Catcher for 12".
Brenda, cool! I'm glad you like the tote pattern and have the yarn for it. Can't wait to see a pic!
Athba, Sweetie, please be okay you and the baby. Take good care of yourself...you have to eat, you know. I like that movie, the 9th Gate. I love that poncho from stitchdiva.com! Think I'm gonna add that one to my RAOK wish list.
NiYa, I love purple, too! Was it for the half moon shawl that you used 2 strands of WW with the L hook?
Cara, WOW! You made a fantastic haul yesterday. Haven't tried Vanna's Choice yet. Haven't tried much of anything except RHSS, Bernat SV, I Love That Yarn and threads.
Roxy, so glad the cat is back. That's awful that you had to miss your appointment though. Sounds like it was very important. Hope things work out perfect for you guys going to Belgium. Hope your cardigan gets worked out to fit you. Aww, sweet pet blanket and such nice things for your SP. Potholder, dishcloth and bookmark look terrific. Love the coasters, too., and what a nice lapghan. Can't tell from the picture what the border is though. Looks like the spike stitch is perfect for a hook holder. You have a lucky SP!
Wendy, now yarn is staring at you and talking to you?
Judy, what is Mondrian style?
Alrighty, that's all for now. Gotta work on my waves of color tote bag for awhile and then I'll try to catch up on the rest.
Im a bit tired this morning as I went so late to bed last night. I will have to have a nap sometime today.
Cara I too am going to the shop to look for furniture. Did you buy any.
Judy wow what your sp made is just amazing. Its just beautiful. I like that pattern your going to do for the ME Cal, are you going to use the same colors.
Jeannie congratulations, you got the post number.
Athba thanks for sharing info about your customs in regard to getting married. Im always interested in what happens in different places around the world.
Ashley welcome to the group. You will love it here, its a place to get all our projects finished but most of the time we are all too busy chatting. If you want to keep track of points, just have a look at the first post. I also give out 5 points for the color of the day and the project of the day(its in my siggie) and 5 points for the post number, so if you post on that number you get the 5 points. If you do want to keep track its probably better to wait till Nov 1. Dont feel like you have to do this though.
Diane hope your feeling better soon.:hug
Oh no!! That's why we have such heavy furniture...because of the cats. Even when it was just Misa she loves running around. Glad to see I'm not the only one that has to share their food with a cat. Jeannie sorry your having problems with the tote. Did you keep a marker where the row started each time. I havent done the pattern yet so cant really help you.
Cara that would have been a great name for our other cat Coco, he eats all the time and sometimes he can be just walking past the food bowl and he will backtrack and stop and eat a little bit then off on his way again. He also cleans his area around the bowl. Have you ever seen a cat do that. He will scrape with his paw around his bowl to clean it up.
We got alot done today. They are taking one load up to the new house. I've got their kiddo's for the night. Then the four kids and I will go with them up to the new place tomorrow to help unload boxes. I'm pretty sore from the last week. But it's nice that they are getting it all taken care of. They only had about two weeks notice of moving.
I gave her the comfortghan and she almost cried she couldn't believe it. It made me feel good that we were able to do that for her.:manyheart
Now time to try and catch up. Not sure if I'll be able to do a good job with it. It may be a novel length post that will need publishing :lol
Cara, you're so sweet. Thank you for the compliments.
Karen, thank you. I wasn't sure how that one would turn out but it actually looks better than it's other half. I used variegated in the other one. They both turned out nice but I have gotten more compliments on this one.
Wendy sounds like a great idea for the avatar. I'm going to have to participate in it again. I've really slacked on my points and such this month. I don't know why but I've just been off the last few weeks. Time to buckle back down.
Krystal, WOW that Dragonfly turned out beautiful. I love it. Great job on it. Have you made a good dent in the ends?
Julie, hi there. I have been missing chatting with you this week. The pinks in the baby blanket were Dazzleaire. I'm not sure what the colors were now. I didn't save the wrappers. It was a shiny type and I wanna say that the light one was pale pink or something along the lines of it and the other was mulberry. I only have 4 more blocks on the WB till it's finished. I'm hoping I can get it done by December 15th. I need to buckle down on my Spirit of America first though. For a while I'll probably only work on those two just to get them done. The rest aren't as time sensitive.
Betty everything looks nice. Beautiful work and your little one is adorable.
Judy that was so nice of you to volunteer. I'll be over there sometime tonight to sign up. :D
Cara, your fall ghan is looking great. And Tuon is her adorable little troublesome self I see :lol
We don't get to change our clocks for another week. I'm not sure exactly what the deal was but they messed up our dates on the daylight savings. We fall back an hour on November 4th.
Judy your SP was so wonderful to have made such a special gift. How sweet of her. It looks beautiful.
Athba, thank you. You're so sweet. The quilts are so addicting and they aren't too hard to figure out if your good at grannies. I learned with them so I took to them very nicely. Your items are so beautiful too. It's so neat to see all the talent in this group.:) I just saw the dress link. Very pretty.
Shelly congratulations on the digital camera. I'm sort of a point and shoot gal myself too. I do play around with my pictures once they're on the computer but I don't do much playing on the camera. I can't wait to start seeing pics :hook
Heather your daughter is so cute.
Cara, well that's the trick. I will have to change my page setting. Although then I can't tell hubby that I have 5-10 pages to catch up on :lol
Athba, thank you for sharing your marriage traditions. It's so neat to learn about other cultures.
Ashley, welcome to the group. This is a great group of ladies and everyone is always willing to help if you need any.
Jeannie, I've heard that about when people are mean too. Although I was in school and the way I heard it was when someone said something mean you just smile at them and it will drive them nuts. I have about 6 months unless something else happens here. This is the first big thing in over 2 years so we're hoping that nothing else will happen. I love packing and moving too. I know I'm weird :lol
Diane, I hope you feel better soon. :hug
Glad to see I'm not the only one that has to share their food with a cat. Misa doesn't want anything to do with treats or human food. But what she lacks Tuon makes up for. DH says we should've named her Hoover
:rofl
Well I'm finally caught up. It only took me an hour. Now to check out what I missed in the other CALs.
Jeannie sorry your having problems with the tote. Did you keep a marker where the row started each time. I havent done the pattern yet so cant really help you.Wendy, thank you! I remember reading in the pattern in the beginning about the markers and I haven't used them. Gonna try to work it up again with a light yarn (been using black and Cherry Chip variegated) and a larger hook so I can see better how the stitches work out.
yup wendy but every work has an efford my time is made og gold :lol
tell me what kind of stuff do you like
no more afghans somday you will be drawn in your tiny squares
you don`t like ponchos
maybe you should desighn your own bag that looks nice and decorated plus it contain space for your yarns and hooks some personal stuff and a book in case you took the girls for a place and you wanted to crochet in the same time
or maybe wearables!!! shrug or jacket
maybe slippers socks shawl pillow to put it behind your back while sitting in front of the TV and crocheting
hook case , sun glass or eye glass case
maybey a small throw
those stuff that came in my mind for now :think
Aussie
October 27, 2007, 01:59 AM
Thanks Athba for the suggestions.
I cant wear ponchos as I get too hot. ITs very rare that I wear a jacket or jumper. I just finished the 8 pocket tote so dont really want to make another bag at the moment.
Im thinking that if I cant find something to make with my caron brites yarn then I will make my round xmas ripple with the candy cane yarn I got this week. The thing is because its a xmas ripple I would want to try and get it done for xmas and I really dont need another item that has a deadline on it. I know there is always xmas next year but I know what Im like. I would be pushing for it to be done by this year.
Wow!! I finally got to the end of the posts!
Jeannie~ We have 3 peony plants like that peony you have in your avatar. The one in my avatar is the other type peony we have. Later this week I'll put up one of those peonies in my avatar. I've got my posts per page set on 40 so I was real bad off with 6 to 8 pages to catch up on :lol
I'll get to check out the ME CAL tomorrow.
:welcome Valarie and Ashley! This is a real fun place!
While trying to catch up on posts and do a little crochet I'm trying to find a chalet for our Vacation in Gatlinburg and fighting some kind of weird vertigo feeling.(have a dr. appt for it Tues unless it gets worse then I'm suppose to go to ER. :scared )
Krystal~ I need to send her photo in to Fisher Price then. That sounds neat. She is quite the salesman. I think she could sell snake oil :lol
I know there was other things I wanted to post about but can't remember them at all.
Here is the only 2 things I got finished this last week.
2 Lapghans for the Nursing Home project I've been doing.
Heather - I love those lapaghans. What is the pattern ???
I did some rows of the SUB. I will do much more when a friend come over. I am going to teach him how to finish up a scarf, weaving ends and understand about typos in the patterns.
Just half a hour ago, a friend call me and let me know that there is a big sale on yarn in BigaLot store, $1 per yarn - small balls of baby yarn and fancy yarns. I know I should trust my gut instinct when I passed by such store on my long walk earlier today. :lol I might do that tomorrow if the sale is still good.
Morning Miss Wendy
Good to see you so bright and early ,although it's not bright here, still pitch dark outside .
I am still trying to decide what pattern and colors to use for the ME CAL .I have it narrowed down, but not decided just yet .
Guess I'll make a run to the store and get the yarn. I think I have the colors picked. I have been eyeing them for a long time. They are pretty dull, but I like them together .
Now I need to decide on a pattern before getting them so I know how much I need .
Sorry you are having trouble choosing a pattern. Are you looking for something in pieces again that need assembled, or are you going for a one-piece type pattern ?
I thought you might be getting tired of the tiny squares and need something that is all one continuous pattern .
Aussie
Athba you probably ate too much. Most people think they should eat twice as much because they are pregnant but this is not the case. Have you had any cravings yet. Any food that you just have to eat.
Ok I think I can feel a QOD coming up
QOD - When you were pregnant what did you crave the most or what did you eat that was very strange to everyone else but you just couldnt get enough off. If you havent been pregnant yet you can still answer this question by telling us if you eat a combination of foods that is very strange.
I craved chocolate the most when I was pregnant and would eat 4 chocolate bars a day. When my mum was pregnant with me she ate a kilo of mandarins a day. Boy did she pay for that with lots of trips to the loo. Also my DH used to have Apple Juice on his cereal instead of milk.
Morning Donna !
Q o D
I ate CREAMSTICKS daily. I gained 48 pounds with the first one-- I think it was 40 pounds of creamsticks -
They have the best ones at the grocery the next town over- peanut butter frosting with peanuts on top and enough cream in them to fill a coffee cup .
My mom brought me a dozen of them in the hospital after I had the baby and the nurse chewed me out for eating them instead of the pressed-turkey and instant mashed potatoes and the grey green beans .
which would YOU have eaten ?
That's a great pattern. I can't wait to see it come together with the brights. I hope you have a nice night. See you in your morning.
Good Morning Ladies.
QOD~I ate subs & chips all the time with the twins. I also couldn't go without mountain dew which Doa's mom also loved with her pregnancy for Doa. I craved alot of chinese food with Darius & ate everything in site for Jaden. Who am I kidding, I ate everything in site for all 3 pregnancies. :lol It showed too, I gained 60 lbs. with the first 2 pregnancies & about 40-50 with Jaden. :eek :lol
My plans are just to chill out & work on my fall ghan today. Very rainy & dark here, I hope it improves but I doubt it. I also have to find a pattern & yarn for the ME CAL. That's it. What are you all up to today?
Judy - I know, I know, everyone I meet thinks my banana and mayo sandwiches are disgusting. My teacher partner was so grossed out when I first dunked my PB and J into my soup (so I didn't do it at lunch yesterday, but it was tempting!!)
I don't know about being pregnant if my tastes would have been worse, the funny thing is I am a very picky eater.....
Heather - Wow!! I love those two lapghans :yes Especially the one with the larger center square. Did you design those or was there a pattern? Really great :cheer
Wendy - Excellent choice on the ME ghan! That will look absolutely fabulous with the brites! :yes
Tammy - That's just disgusting :yuck :lol
Julie - Have fun yarn shopping :hug And they're not "dull" colors....they're "muted". Yes, I am the Queen of Spin and I don't mean yarn :D
Judy - Good morning hon :hug
QOD - With David I wanted nothing but enchiladas. Morning, noon and night. With Joshua I ate guacamole on just about everything but the most disgusting (yes no spin on this one...disgusting is the only word) thing I ate it on was hamburgers. I couldn't get enough of hamburgers with all the fixings and guacamole on top. They tasted so good! Tried one after he was born and about made myself sick. It was awful :lol
QOD -
I remember with my first one craving SALT. I loved the mashed potatoes at KFC - would order JUST those! With my daughter it was liver, bacon & onions. I remember with my third eating a LOT of ice cream. The fourth? Can't remember.... :lol I don't eat anything disgusting that I know of. My mother scoops vanilla ice cream on her potato chips... :yuck
QOD - I like banana and mayo sandwiches. I also like to dunk PB&J sandwiches into my chicken noodle soup.....
Oh my.. Double-:yuck !
Good morning ladies :flower
QOD - With David I wanted nothing but enchiladas. Morning, noon and night. With Joshua I ate guacamole on just about everything but the most disgusting (yes no spin on this one...disgusting is the only word) thing I ate it on was hamburgers. I couldn't get enough of hamburgers with all the fixings and guacamole on top. They tasted so good! Tried one after he was born and about made myself sick. It was awful :lol
Sounds fine to me! :yes
Dragonfly ends are about half done. I've got a little over an hour left, I think. :D
QOD - When you were pregnant what did you crave the most or what did you eat that was very strange to everyone else but you just couldnt get enough off. If you havent been pregnant yet you can still answer this question by telling us if you eat a combination of foods that is very strange.
With my oldest I only remember having a really bad craving once...It was the middle of Feb. snowing like anything... we had already got about a foot of snow... at 2 AM I wanted a hot fudge sundae so bad I could kill... my hubby tried using reason... it's snowing--- there are no stores open--- so I didn't get it.... the next day he went and bought all the fixings but I didn't want one anymore... With #2 daughter I ate a creamcycle twist icecream cone everyday.. of course that was summer so it wasn't too bad... besides #1 daughter was 3 1/2 and she loved it.
when#1 daughter was pregnant she use to put chicken gravy on everything... she use to dunk her sandwiches in chicken gravy..
well I finally caught up so now my grandAngel is standing over my shoulder.. I'm getting "Gramma I really need to go on the computer Please" so I'll check in later..
