Welcome to the new Sky CAL
The purpose of this group is to get all those UFO’s completed and get more organized .
We will work on a point system , one month at a time .
Each month, we will start with a clean slate and clear all points awarded for the past month .
The winner of the first month will receive a small item as a prize (price $ 2- $ 3 )
If you are the winner for that month, it will be up to you to send a prize to the winner of the next month, etc. That way, one person will not have to send all prizes .
What you work on each day will be your decision .As long as you are working on ANY project, you will get points for that day, based on the scale below .
Good luck and have fun !
Point System
One point a day for POSTING .
One point a day if you answer the question of the day .
One point for each small granny square .
One point for each row or round completed on a medium project ,such as a baby afghan, shawl or sweater .
One point a day for keeping and WRITING in a crochet journal .
One point for each separate Photo you share on Photo Friday.
Rainbow points- if you are making a scrap project, one point for each color used on it that week .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Five points for each row on an adult sized afghan .
Five points - Small items completed (dishcloths ,squares over 5 rounds ,small toys, hats ,scarves ,etc )
Five points if get a thank you in the mail from someone you made an item for .
Five points for a Flat Stanley Photo
( a photo of you crocheting in an unusual spot )
5 points if you change your avatar weekly, based on the theme that week. The new theme will be announced on Friday.
You also get an extra 5 bonus points each time you change your avatar again during the week, as long as it is still in the theme we are going with that week. You can only get points for one change a day , though .
Five points if you recruit a new member to join the group .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Ten points for a preemie afghan completed .
Ten points if you give the item to someone and have a photo of them WITH the item .
Ten points if you design a new pattern to share .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
25 points for a completed afghan .
Added Bonus points – Each morning, I’ll choose a secret post number for the day . Whoever posts on that number will get 5 bonus points .
Each morning I will also write down a color of yarn. If that is the color you are using that day you get 5 bonus points.
****New & Improved ******
THE DEAD ZONE
-- if you pick ONE HOUR A DAY as your CROCHET hour-- that means no cleaning, cooking,laundry, or POSTING in here -- and dedicate that one hour to CROCHET -- give yourself 5 bonus points for that hour.
QUestion regarding yarn: Isnt 8 ply in Australia called 4 ply here in the USA?
JulieKay
December 22, 2007, 07:18 AM
Wow, guys-- I'm so behind, so will try starting here and catching up -
Cara- hope you are feeling better today .
Judy- the lilac shawl is so pretty ! Your friend will love it .
Jeannie - well, I guess I'm sort-of an Ohio State fan. Sam likes watching them more than I do, I like NFL football better ,so dont get much into the college teams, but it is kinda neat having a college in our state with such a good record in football .
are you sure??? :think
cause i have 4 ply
but she said it is nearly like the peaches and cream
ive never used neither peaches and crem nor suger and crem
but in here i have 4 ply 100% cotton, 150 mtrs per skein and it is 3,5$ only
but once i wanted to buy cotton yarn from the net it was 85 mtrs and more than 5$ so it was a shock :eek
December 22, 2007, 07:23 AM
Judy Im not sure, its very confusing isnt it. I know the 8ply acrylic yarn we use is thinner than Red heart yarn.
Athba I thought the 3ply yarn was pretty thick, is it very thick with 2 strands together, cant you use it on its own. What brand of cotton do you have there. I know the ply differs in each country so yours might be different from Australia and America.
I see that several of you aren't feeling well this week. ( or have family that are sick ) .
I hope you are all on the mend by Christmas- I was sick one year on Christmas day-- no fun at all !
I'm glad those of you that are in KnitWits are learning and enjoying knitting. I think it had helped me too, when we get people that are good at it to come give us tips about the really simple questions-- I know it helps me out too .
Meg- no wonder you want to keep the RR , it IS very pretty !
Cindy- have fun on vacation next week !
Cara- I know what you mean about the gabbing and how the 'ville is helping to keep our hubsters from listening to us QUITE as much. I still need LIVE ears to listen ,though .
We all have our crosses to bear ,and that is Sam's .
This yarn thing can get confusing - and now that I have thoroughly confused all of you - I'll be logging out for now:D
My suggestion is to always make a swatch before using patterns...and I need to take my own advice!
Julie - thanks - my friend will be surprised since I told her I was swamped and she's likely have to wait for the shawl:lol
Oh hang on we have 4 ply here too and yes it is very thin and yes you would need to use 2 strands to get it thick like Peaches and Cream. I didnt know what you were using. Most of our cotton is between $3.5-$5 each. Its not cheap
i don`t know where it came from
but for that yarn i use 3,5mm hook to get perfect looking of the project
i thought of 2 strands an 5mm hook :think
it is better to be thicker cause it is pot holder you need something protects your hands from heat :lol
Kathy- have a good time on your trip ~
Krystal- a few HUNDRED pierogies ! WOW ~~~~~ Who are you feeding, an Army Base ?
Wendy- wow, you have turned out some more really pretty items !
Shelly- thanks for the pointers on stress management - that is definitely something I need work on. My Dr tells me EVERY visit that stress is killing me, and I believe it. Need to find a way to manage situations better that are not fixable. I have the tendency to think I can fix ANYTHING if I think about it long enough, but I am finding that some things are beyond fixing, so I have to accept them as is .
Tab- I have a question ---
You mentioned being unable to lift Jaden's bookbag that was only holding a folder and a snack . What was his snack, a 10 pound fruitcake ?
Welcome, Linda !
This is a loosely-run group as far as rules-- you can pretty much do whatever the heck you want . I will second Krystal's answer, but add one of my own :
It is greatly helpful if you are a fast reader and faster TYPER so you can keep up with the posts in here !
Krystal- forgot to mention, love the border you are using on the filet -- it is very pretty !
and Tab- all your items are pretty-- my favorite is the last scarf-- those colors are pretty together !
Shelly- we are so glad that your Christmas day will turn out to be a good one.
Like I always say-- this is the best gang of people on the entire internet, hands down !
And keep forgetting to mention to all of you that get a long vacation break on the holidays-- enjoy your time off !
December 22, 2007, 07:52 AM
Heather- great work on your latest projects !!!
Jeannie -nice job also on your afghan ~
Brenda- is your knit babydoll blanket the basketweave stich or something else ? It's very pretty !
Cara- wow, sounds like you hit the jackpot and must have been a good girl this year !
As for Cam being excited about Christmas, let's say he is WOUND UP .... you know how kids get at this time of year ?
Anyhow, I told him a long story yesterday about how good he's been this year and how Santa moves people UP on his list , the better you are, and that he is now the top name on the list. He asked where I was and I said the bottom slot. He asked what Sanata would give me, being on the bottom. I told him a STICK or ROCK .
You should have seen him laughing-- that kid is priceless ...
After 10 hours of sleep, I'm feeling a little bit better. My sinusses are still bothering me and my ears are bothering me and my throat is sore, but hopefully doc will just write me another prescription. Gonna call service later today..... A couple of years ago, I let a sinus infection go for awhile and blew out my eardrum, worse pain ever I thought.....well last year I had kidney stones.......That was the worse pain ever... Oh my!
Too many posts to comment on, but some lovely work by all....Those of you traveling good luck, have fun and be careful.....
Cara- congrats on the new baby ! How exciting and what a wonderful Christmas present !
Niya-- I wanna hang out with you someday -- you are my kind of people. I LIKE dressing funny just to get weird looks .
One night I went to the library in my PJ's . I asked if they minded me coming in dressed like that and they said "If you don't care ,we don't ! "
And last year for reunion Saturday night our dress theme was TACKY -- so, boy, did I have fun with that one-- I picked out the butt-ugliest colors of clothes I could find and did a mix and match -- I sure got some funny looks at the grocery store down there !
DH has several family members. Even a SMALL gathering is 15 people. Plus, we had to bag about a hundred up as gifts. We're the only ones crazy enough to make them, so they become Christmas presents, too.
What can I say ?
You are either a Glutton for Punishment or you make me look like a slouch .
I didn't even make any home-made cookies this year ..... :eek
I DID buy one of those sets in walmart bakeshop that has the sugar cookies and frosting and sprinkles so kids can decorate their own cookies. I let Cam work on them one night last week. He sure had fun with them, and ended up having a thicker layer of sprinkles than the cookie was ! :lol
Cara, congratulations on the new great nephew. Glad mom and baby are fine.
I need to get off my rear and get to work cleaning. I am having a family Christmas gathering tonight, and I know I'd enjoy it more if I at least cleaned the bathrooms.
I can hide the rest of the dirt by draping unfinished crocheted items everywhere. I've got enough of them!
Started working on DD's cardi again last night. Tried it on her this morning and it's rather snug. It was rather big when I started it. Not sure what I'll do now. Finish it and put it up in my etsy? Or :frog and start over? I hate :frog my work, I really do. But I also would hate to finish it and then have it just sit in my shop for ever.
Heather, I'm using the dark pink that you sent me in the first holiday swap box. It's the best yarn I've ever used!
Good morning one & all. It is bright and sunny here, will be in the 50s today and a balmy 68 tomorrow.
Congrats, Cara, on the new little one in your family.
Sounds like everyone is finishing things up. I have just about finished the navy/gold RR, only 2 rounds and then the reverse sc round left. That will be today's endeavor. Hubby is working an extra-long shift today and tomorrow, so this is the quiet ME time I've needed for awhile. And another round of Hot Yoga at 4:30 today. :yes:clap
Will post a pic of the RR when it's done. Oh, and my boss and colleague LOVED their handbags.
My challenge for 2008 - we know a family with 4 teenage boys that are adopting another family of 4 children in February (3 girls & a boy - 10, 8, 5, 3). So I have offered to make afghans for all 8 ... will probably be more lapghan size so I have a hope of completing them before summer!
And we all love ya, Julie. This place wouldn't be the same with you. :hug
Morning everyone
Cara congrats on the new great nephew. :hug
Julie I don't think the kids care if the cookies are home made or not they just love decorating them :yes
Can you believe I didn't do hardly anything yesterday. I didn't even pick up a hook :eek and I only did maybe 3 or 4 rows on my dishcloth. I'm trying something that looks a little more advance. I'm doing one of those picture dishcloths. I read the pattern and it's just a series of knits and purls so I don't think it should be too hard. If it turns out nice enough I might give it to my friend with her Christmas present.
Well cripe, you guys--
You all are giving ME the credit for such a successful CAL group . You all did every bit as much as me. I started the first post, and it took off from there, so I am no hero .
Wendy has also done a terrific job stepping in for me , so she gets a blue ribbon for that . :yes
The funny part of THIS group is that it was started as a way to get all our crochet projects completed ,but it has kinda turned into TALK CENTRAL STATION . :lol
* Not that I am complaining, I LOVE it when the boards stay so busy --- that is the secret to the success of these groups ... try to answer each person as much as possible, show interest in everyone and don't leave people out, especially the new ones who sign on .
I learned that many times in LOTS of other online groups-- they all seem to be real "cliquey" and already have bonds made with each other and they aren't real welcoming to new people .You may post and get a little response or none at all .
That is real discouraging if you are the new kid on the block and wanna feel like a part of the group and they ignore you .
Let me be the first to say that I have officially been "online" for probably about 12 years or so and have probably also signed up for pert near every crochet group ever invented on here .
I have to say, you guys are the absolute BEST . Donna and Amy have done a terrific job at keeping this place a clean friendly place to come ,and kept out the riff raff . They hold themselves to high standards, which in turn, we also do .
Now, I'll also be the first to admit, somedays I might SLIP a little and not exactly post a G-rated comment, but I don't think we have ever gotten out of line too badly . Most comments like that are made in jest and not intended to be crude or disgusting , just funny .
Anyhow, the thanks goes out to each and every one of you. You are all as big a part of this as I am . :manyheart
( I'll admit, with 8,000 posts, I am QUITE the GABSTER, but I have to have some feedback from you all, or I don't have anyone to GAB TO .) :D
Good evening ladies, hope you are all well and ready for xmas:lol
I have nearly completed my dad's afghan, have done 1 row of sc border, not sure if I should do another row or 2 and end with a row of colour?
Still have the ends to weave in, will work on it on Monday, working again tonight and off to my mums tomorrow.
Not had any sleep today, by the time I had been to the supermarket and feed the cats I just couldn't sleep, so tonight is gonna be hard at work.
Have ordered a takeaway as I can't be bothered to cook.
Boy I miss one day of reading posts and we hit 20,000.:yay:yay I must say this is the best group I have ever been apart of . Thanks for all making it so welcoming.:hug
Cara Congratulations on becoming a Grand Aunty:yay
Athba I have used 4 ply doubled to make potholders with a 5mm hook. I did it for thickness and because there is a better colour selection. Can't wait to see what you make.
Krystal Wow all those Perioga (sp?). I haven't tasted them in years. Must try making some.
Wendy Your granny ripple looks great. I love the colour scheme. Is your good weather still holding? We were suppose to get rain last night but nothing came. The humidity has been very high the last few days.
I haven't had chance to read all the posts. So forgive me if I have forgotten anyone.
Oh you can see my new glasses in that picture and some of my very gaudy Christmas clothing. I am very Christmas-y in December....forgot the picture of the snow. This is the school where I teach. My classroom is in the bottom left corner before the building arches out..... behind the bare tree...
Tammy- thanks for sharing the photos-- your school looks really neat with such a diverse population of kids ! It'd be so neat to attend a place like that and learn so many different things about different cultures and holidays .
Nothing wrong with your Christmas wardrobe, looks like you are in the spirit !
And all your items are pretty- the little sweater is really cute .
Shelly- you get a new title today - Speed Racer . You got a lot of things done in a short time.. go,Speed Racer, go !
G'Day everyone.
Its a overcast Sunday here, we have had loads of rain which is great, its supposed to fine up for xmas.
Tammy your projects are beautiful. Thanks for the photos of your classroom and the school. Love seeing snow photos. You sure have been busy.
Shelly Im glad you got everything done in time. Have fun at the party.
Athba the 8 pocket tote took me a few weeks and I lined it as well. If I did it again I would leave out the pockets. Are you thinking of making it.
Julie we could call this cal Sky Central. Hows that. I love how we all get together in here and see how everyone is going and comment on everyone's progress.
Well Im going to have some breakfast then later when the shops open at 11am I have to do some food shopping for xmas eve dinner. I also have to finish the xmas ripple. Its so big now it takes forever to do a row.
Yep, Julie..lots of diversity and that's why I teach there. I love working in such a diverse school. I was telling my teaching partner who teaches in Spanish, that Spanish is really seeping into me now. I was in my yarn room looking for something and in my head I am saying, Donde esta?? (Where is it?) So I really am learning also and I love being able to use my limited Spanish
I realized that there are no Caucasian kids in the pics, so I will load a couple more. Since our school is a magnet and Dual Language, we have kids from all over the district. 70% of our kids are free or reduced lunch, but we have a good deal that are middle-class or slightly above. In the Dual program, we try to have 50 dominant English and 50% Dominant Spanish, so our kids are Caucasian, African-American, lots of Puerto Rican and alot of kids from South American countries and Mexico. This year I have kids whose families come from Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, El Salvador, and Puerto Rico, among the Spanish speaking kids....
Some of the kids in the pics are from my class and some from fourth grade (my class last year)
I also included a pic of the classroom, we are reading "How Santa Lost His Job"
Tammy, the pictures are fantastic! Thanks for sharing them. I, too, love those place mats and the sweater is very nice.
Our teachers here always amazed me with their holiday clothing. They would be so decked out in many beautiful sweatshirts, sweaters, vests, turtlenecks, etc., in Halloween and Christmas themes. Some of them had the electronic stuff in 'em so that the teacher was blinking and flashing lights. I know the kids love to see their teachers being such a part of it all.
We just got home... I'm beat but it's the good kind of tired... the kids all loved their gifts... several of them were wearing their scarves around all evening inside and out... the little girls purses came out so cute... i have orders for 2 purses from one of my SIL's she is even going to pay me for them... they are the shell purse I made for one of my little nieces... I didn't get pictures.. started taken them as the kids were opening them and the camera died... and noone had an extra battery... The kids are so funny my Mom got big bath towels (I picked them up for her the day after Thanksgiving at 5/$10) and she sewed their initials, which she had cut out of material, on them for all her grandkids and great-grands... she did 27 in all with spouses and significant others... you would think she gave them a million dollars they were hugging the towels... Angel said " Oh thanks big gramma I can use it when I'm done with my bath... and it's all mine..." then gave Mom a big hug and kiss..
Cara I don't want you to feel alone...my niece is in the Hospital in labor as we speak... so we are just waiting word... it will be my 2nd great nephew... to go along with the 4 great nieces... it will be my Mom's 8th great-grand... and there is another one due in Feb...
Well I need to get my feet up my left leg is about twice as big as my right... 'til tomarrow...
Wendy the christmas RR is beautiful..
Well I have a new great nephew... Isaac William Young arrived at 1:11 AM... he weighed in at 8 lbs 11 1/2 ounces... my sister was so excited she called me at 3:15 when she got home from the hospital... she e-mailed the others--- me she woke up... I guess that's what big sisters are for.. that's ok I'm glad she woke me to share her excitement... It is her first biological grandchild... the man she married a few years back has several grandkids so she has been a step- gramma.. but it's not the same as being there when the child you gave birth to gives birth ... it is the most amazing thing you can be part of after having your own... (the only downfall is seeing your child in pain--- even though you know the outcome is worth it) I was there for the birth of both of my grandgirls and I wouldn't trade it for the world... Isaac gets to be a "birthday buddy" to his cousin Mandy (she is turning 29 today)... we have several of those in the family ... one niece was born on my older Broth's b-day, another niece was born on one of my SIL's b-day, Angel was born on her cousins b-day... so they are "birthday buddies"
Well I need to try to get back to sleep... so I'm signing off... see ya all later...
Good morning ladies!
We're getting ready to go to a christmas party in a few hours. DD decided that she wanted to wear her "pretty dress" I made her a minnie mouse dress for halloween. So I just took the poka-dots off and re-washed it to get the stitches to lay right again. Older pictures here (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63547). Hubby STILL hasn't found our camera :angry I had to add 2 rows to the neck line, as it was still slipping off her shoulders. Now it fits her perfect. And next spring, I can just take the extra neck rows off and it should still fit her. Now she just has a pretty pink dress!
I'm making a quick cardi to go over her dress for today. Just 2 strands of white simply soft with a K hook. Just my regular square yoke like the dress. Then it will have a shell bottom. It's turning out pretty cute. And I'm almost done with the sweater part. Then it will just be the sleeves. I have 2 hours till we leave for the party so I better quick gabbin! :lol
Happy Holidays everyone!:hug
Cara I walked through Home Depot today looking for that nonslip stuff for the bottom of DS's slippers. Everyone looked at me like I had snakes growing out of my head. Could you please tell me the name brand and specific kind of container that you were talking about? A picture would be even better if you have some laying around.
Gotta go -lots to do.
Hunky Buns... Big Daddy... Man Toy... OH MY what is this site coming to...
had a fun day today... the girls and I decided we needed to make a gift for one of our neighbors.. when our water was out they let us get all the water we needed from them.. so Haley (10) made a big batch of Brownies[ thank goodness for box mixes] with gramma supervision and the only assistance from me had to do with putting them in and taking them out of the oven... she put sprinkles on before we baked them and after they were done the girls used cookie cutters and cut them into shapes... I made scarves for the little boy and girl... the boy is in Haleys grade and the little girl is in Angel's pre K class... the brownies melt in your mouth YUMMMM now we just have to wait until they are home to deliver them... I put them in a basket that we decorated with ribbons... and Haley made a card...
I'm off to see the Wizard.. the Wizard of OZ just came on and I'm watching it again for the umpteenth time... I can't help it ... it reminds me when I was young we would pop a big bowl of popcorn and sit around watching it as a family...
Hey I have over 500 posts yippee....
see ya later...
Thanks, everyone, for the compliments on the scarves...I'd have loved to have had natural light to take the pics - but the weather has been awful today, rain (no snow, TG) but now gale force winds! The rest of the week will be good, though.
Happy Christmas, Wendy! Enjoy your family tonight and I'll bet you strained a muscle in your back...it's such a crazy and bust time of the year! Feel better, my friend:hug
Cara The baby is just adorable!
Hubby found the camera!!! so I'll be taking pictures tonight of a few things. The round ripple is already wrapped but I'll snap a picture as soon as it's opened up tomorrow. I did end up finishing Madison's cardi/bolero. It's sooo adorable. And then the little stinker didn't want to wear it. She doesn't know it yet, but she will end up wearing it SOON! It's sooo adorable.
Tried my best to read everyone's post for the day, but will probably just have to leave it at my skimming. We leave tomorrow after the mail comes for my parents. And only because I'm waiting for something to finish off a present for my dad. *his pepsi hat. I don't have his patch yet... :eek* As soon as mail comes we'll be off. Then I probably won't be back online till tuesday night or wednesday morning. So just in case...
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Judy thanks, it should be a great night with the family, I cant wait. I hope my back pain just a strain but it really hurts especially if I lean on my right leg. Its a constant ache as well.
Wendy - here are two things that might help you. First of all : ICE!!! Put an ice pack on your back over the area that hurts. Keep it on for 15-20 mins. You can do this every hour. I use a bag of frozen peas if I can't find the pack. Second thing, if you can stretch your back and/or legs without immense pain, that is a good thing. Much back pain is muscle-spasm, and stretching and ice help that out.
Cara, that is excellent! Because there is an ACE hardware 10 mins from my house, but Home Depot is 45 minutes! Yippee!
Athba, the Christian holiday is on the 25th, but many ethnic cultures (Polish, for one) have a "fasting night" the night before. Our fasting has traditionally focused around meatless dishes. In Polish tradition, the whole family gathers for seven meatless dishes on the evening before Christmas (pierogi, vegetables, fish, potato pancakes, etc.) and prays together. They also share large wafers of unleavened break called "Oplatek" (don't know how to spell it in Polish) that have been blessed by a priest. You break a piece off of someone else's, make a wish for them, and then eat the bread. They then do the same for you. My husband's family does this, and also exchanges Christmas gives on the eve.
Just taking a break, having something to eat and taking some painkiller, my head is throbbing.
Looks like BF is gonna be right, Iam not gonna get this finished by tomorrow, have deceided to do a border row of hdc in the varigated blue and finish with either a sc or reverse sc. That will take a few hours for me to do, the last time I measured the ghan it was about 50" X 75"
BF is still at the pub, so he is gonna be difficult to cope with when he gets baack, he was only supposed to be gone an hour:lol
I miss that tradition...it's what I grew up with....we never got into one of our own..
....and what I get is trigeminal neuralgia, not Bell's palsy, which I've heard of. In my case it's not chronic, tg. I get acute attacks on various parts of the right hemisphere of my head and face. Last year I didn't have it much, but this year it's hit me several times already...triggered by the cool, damp weather/stress. Usually lasts only part of a day. It's fading a bit, but it's already been 24 hours.
Once cooked leave to cool and dust with icing sugar. Yummo.
Oooh, yummy!! Ollie Bollen is how I think it's spelled. I am of Dutch background and these are a New Years Eve tradition in my family, although I've never made them. We'll be visiting my mom and dad for New Years, maybe my mom will make some this year. They are sort of like a deep fried yeast raised donut, very good, (but not so good for you!)
Merry Christmas all :hug
I have been busy with getting organized here and finishing up the semester (still have a batch of final exams to grade but it can wait :devil ) I've been lurking and not writing much. All is ready for Christmas here - we are keeping it quiet - only the two of us. We are going over to a friends for a bit this evening and then tomorrow it is just us relaxing and enjoying the day together. We are heading away in the New Year instead (off to New Orleans for a conference and then on to Arizona to visit my Mom and her hubby - we'll be gone from Jan 3rd to 13th - and are looking forward to it!!!)
But here is what else is news with us:
Hubby went to a get together with some people he was working with on a church project and a huge pile of snow slid off the church roof and landed on the car. He was still in the car and he wasn't hurt - but the car now has a dented hood, a chunk of paint missing and cracked windshield (and the passenger side washer fluid squirter (that is the technical name I do believe :lol) is wonky (spritzes up into the air now). Now we wait for the insurance adjuster to come and look at it...
The dent on the hood:
Judy (and everyone else not up to par) feel better soon!
SarahJane's stitch abcess is draining, so no vet needed. I know what to do, and have antibiotic cream for the spot.
That's the good news. The bad is we ran out of gas (propane) for cooking, so our roast isn't roasted. I TOLD them to order a load of gas last week, but NO...they all swore there was enough. So, no cooking except electric appliances until Wed. Oh well, we'll survive.
Have fixed the problem with the squares, I cut the yarn too close and the middle started to unravel, managed to pick up the stitches and secure the squares.
Still have loads more to do, getting really tired now, might have a rest for a bit and do some more later.
It's getting late, but Iam determined to get it finished.
BF got back from the pub, has been sick and been in bed for most of the evening. At least he is not asking every 5 mins when I will finish the blanket.
Morning everyone, A Merry Xmas day and A Merry Xmas Eve to you all whichever applies.
The girls woke up at 5am this morning but at least they stayed in their rooms watching movies on their computers. I got up at 6am and we then opened presents. Kelly and Emma loved their presents which is great. We will be getting ready to go to Mum and Dad's place for lunch and open up presents there.
Kathy Im glad Sarahjane is improving.
Karen wow that was a close call. Im glad hubby is ok. Its annoying for you though to get it fixed especially at this time of year. Can you still drive it.
Roxy hope you can fix it up. Its annoying when that happens
Well Im off to mum's place now. You all have a great night.
Oh my.. what a way to end the day.
I'm just wrapping some last special presents this evening, only to find that the company sent me the WRONG item. Not the wrong size, color, etc. The whole wrong toy that can't be used in our situation. The one ordered was a larger size to accomodate the distance between our trees - this one isn't long enough to work here. I can't even use it! So now I have to figure out how to give it to the kids but not let them inspect it enough to realize that the one I will receive (in about four weeks according to the return form) is a different color! It's the ONLY special present that I bought, as they are going to share it (big $ item). I am distraught!
Howdy. I have just come home from mum and dad's place. We had a great lunch and we all got some nice things. I got a few reading books and a doughnut maker and yarn of course.
Mum absolutely loved her bedspread and just couldnt believe how big it was.
Now the only bad thing that happened was that my Aunt accidently tipped over a half a cup of coffee over Mum's bedspread. I carried it straight to the bathroom and soaked it in the bath and its now hanging on the line. I just hope we got the coffee stains out.
Well off to make a coffee.
Wendy, how awful about the Amish! I'll bet the spill went right in the middle, too...but I just had a thought...crochet a decoration over it if it doesn't come out??
I have a sick doggie here...he started on Sunday with "intestinal" problems. The books say that if there's not improvement in a couple of days see the vet...well, after 2 days of chicken and rice and pepto, this morning he threw up and wouldn't come to his bowl when I said the magic word (chick-chick). He sometimes won't rush to eat in the morning like the old lady does, but the vomiting is a new twist - and I'm assuming the pink tinge present is the pepto I gave him 10 hours ago and nothing more...
TG the big vet practice I've been supporting has 24/7 vets on duty. Have to see what to do about with this when Phil wakes up shortly. We might give it a few more hours...dinner can be made and served up by everyone else if Sparkie needs me....I don't care.:(
Merry Christmas everyone. The presents have been opened and now everyone is in the "what do we do now" mode.:lol Hubby is wandering around looking lost because he's bored and the girls are settled with a movie for now. I think when the movie is over I'll throw them in the tub so we can start getting ready to head over to our friends house.
I got a crochet a day calendar for Christmas and two gift cards for a total of $80 of course I want to spend most of that on yarn. So ladies I need some advice on what kinds and colors I should get. I of course will be getting some for the groovy peace ghan and probably enough to finish my 63 squares ghan (yes it's still sitting here in it's bag:blush) I know I want to try felting so I have to get at least one thing of wool. I want some Vanna's yarn and some I love this yarn too. Any other ideas? And how many of each color do you think I should get? It will be my first time every buying just to buy it so I have no idea how to do that :think :lol
Well I better go check on everyone and make sure the girls aren't getting into anything. I was working on a knit dishcloth to make as a gift but I seriously doubt it'll be ready in time. So I'll save it for another time. I am bringing my scarf I'm testing for katchkan with me to our friends house to work on. Tomorrow I think I'm going to try knitting a scarf.
Judy, I'm so glad Sparkie is better. SarahJane is too, and she said to tell your babies to feel better soon. She got a new chewie toy and a set of booties from SantaPaws, so she is very happy.
Oh, a word from experience, Judy. Don't try to take those vet bills as medical deductions. One year dad was sorting the checks for tax time, and threw the one from Dr. Osterheld in the med. pile without thinking. Sure enough, he got audited that year, and it was endorsed on the back Matawan Animal Hospital, so they disallowed that one.
The rest of the medical expenses held up, so he was ok with the IRS.
Judy Im glad that your son and his girlfriend liked their presents and wow you can buy some nice books with your present. What books do you like to read. I like reading Patricia Cornwell, Martina Cole, Danielle Steele, Barbara Taylor Bradford and Jackie Collins. I would like to get involved in some other authors but not sure who.
The girls were very excited about getting the Nintendo WII last night. We left the present to be opened until after we came back from Mum and Dad's place.
The games are quite good, just love the tennis game and it sure must look weird to be seen holding a controller and doing the tennis actions in front of the tv. Only thing wrong is one of the controllers doesnt work so will have to take it back tomorrow to Target, that sure will be fun... not.... I will have to get there early to get in line.
Good evening, all. I'm totally beat, but thought I'd say hello!
Let's see... I got a new vanity for the bathroom - DH got the matching sink and faucet :lol . I also got some great dress boots that I've been eyeing. I got the CPAD and a couple afghan books (I already have them, so will be exchanging them for some I really want). I got a gift card to Hobby Lobby (don't have them here, so will have to check online), as well as a few skeins of yarn from a secret santa. I did NOT get the viceroy done, but my Mother oooooohed and aaaaaahed over it anyway (I was only missing a few sides of the border). Now to finish it.
Did I mention I was tired? Time to go to sleep!
Evening all - sounds like everyone had a good day and I'm glad the pups are doing okay.
Came back from inlaws about 3:00 and have been sewing squares together. Have 6 strips now to sew together, but dang I'm tired!!! And I did not do any running around and I took a nap before we went to the inlaws.....
Wendy - I'm a Cornwell fan and I discovered Kathy Reichs whom I love. Similiar to Cornwell. And so glad there was no permanent damage to the Amish. Oh and on the 26th, Kwanzaa starts here, but it does not affect the stores or anything.
I'm thinking about going out tomorrow, just don't know if I want to brave it. I would only go to the mall and I just don't know....
Hi, Wendy, Tammy, Krystal and everyone!
As far as books go...I went through a period of reading romances, then Tom Clancy, then paranormal...now...not sure. I have read some great "cozy mysteries" (where the murder takes place off-stage, so to speak...those are good. Along this line I've read Laurien Berenson, who has dogs and dog shows as a background in her stories (have the latest:)) and I think the author is Wiggs...no, that's not right...I have to ask my Spring SP - I should have written th authors name down. She's very good, and all the titles of the mysteries deal with food or spices...
Ahhhh....books and hooks does life get any sweeter? :c9
I read primarily fantasy, myself. Which brings to mind a question I've been meaning to ask Jeannie.
Jeannie - I know that you are a huge Terry Goodkind fan. Is Wizards First Rule the place to start? Time I gave him a try :yes
I love books and so does hubby - he has been on me lately cause I haven't been reading the way I used to (notice I joined 50 book, but didn't get very far) In my defence I read LOADS of kids books to see if they will work for lessons and such..... I'm actually going to be reading some on the Holocaust, because I've decided to do an after-school enrichment program on it....
I love historical romances, although I watch mostly sci-fi, don't read as much and trying to get into it. Love mystery/thrillers - Cornwell, Reichs, Kellerman. Love Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Robert McCameron for scary books. Also a fan of reading books about history and biographies.
One of the best books I've ever read was The Kite Runner, but it took awhile for me to get into it....
Only thing I don't read are modern day romances (I've read one Danielle Steel) or self help type books, oh and cookbooks, cuz I don't cook! :D
I have a heap of Kathy Reich books but the tv show put me off reading them. So they are just sitting on the shelf at the moment. I also have a few Stephen King books, I love his movies. What are Kellerman books like Tammy.
Yeah - I don't watch the tv series because of that. I had read her books before the tv series started and I HATE that it is the same character (name) and nothing is similiar to the books. I love her books. Kellerman is Jonathan Kellerman - he is not for everyone. He was a child pyschologist who turned to writing, and he uses that background. Many of his stories deal with children and how they can turn out....His wife also writes books, Faye Kellerman, she's pretty decent. My husband and I have read most of her books too. They also have a son who has also started writing books...
Hubby recommends John Sandford (but he can be a little sexist), older Mary Higgens Clark, and Robert Parker (can be pulpy, but are funny to read) and he also says James Patterson, can be good, but gets redundant(I love his women's mystery murder club books, which they also just started a tv series about)
Ooh books my other favorite topic. :D I usually love reading romance, mystery, fantasy and a good true crime every once in a while. Sometimes I get lucky and get a couple of them all in one book :lol I'm actually planning on heading to the library in the next day or two since I've run out of books to read here at home.
I think I'm going to head off. I just got home and got the kids to bed. My head has been throbbing most of the day. Not enough to put me out of commission but enough to be a bother. So I'm going to head off and watch a movie then it will be off to bed for me. I'll more than likely be around tomorrow though.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
I got the hooded scarf finished for Chris's brother's gf. She loved it...and she said she'd use it because she lives in NY. I was a bit upset that the pattern didn't say anything about the edging, so I made it up. It turned out nice. I got a pic, but have no energy to put them on my computer at the moment.
I didn't finish the flag ghan....no way that was going to get finished, but I better get started on it soon for next year :lol
I also haven't finished the 8-pocket tote for my mom, but maybe I can get most of it done by Sunday when we have another party.
Ok, time to relax.
Hope everyone had a great day and has a pleasant evening!
Ooh I love to read too though I haven't read much this year. :( Too busy crocheting :lol I have listened to a few on tape though so I could crochet and read :lol
I don't watch Bones either since it's nothing like the books and I love her books. Lisa Scottoline is a pretty good one too and I've heard good things about Linda Fairstein but haven't gotten to read any of hers yet.
I'm reading now instead of crocheting. I brought tons of yarn, but haven't even brought it indoors (between pets and smokers I have second thoughts about working on much). But I know I will bring something in sooner or later so I don't get my fingers too stiff.
Niya-nice job !
How did you do the afghan, it almost looks like you made 4 big squares, put them together, then added triangle-type designs on each corner, or did you do it all in one piece ?
I realy like it, however it was done !
Morning ladies :yawn
Well I've already been up for almost 2 hours now. It's taken that long to get my head cleared. Seems my cold has gone full blown now :sick And on my favorite day of the year, too!! :thair And, and, AND it's RAINING!! Probably why my little nose is all messed up :( If it wasn't raining I'd hit the stores now. I think they are reopening at 6 (read: 5 minutes from now). Getting out might help. Plus, I do have to get some cold medicine you know and if some clearance goodies just happen to jump in my buggy.....:D
Big Daddy is still awake too because Tuon's been crying all night. Wonder if he'd like to drive me :think Probably not :lol
