Just waiting for the flame :hook
(OK, as the flame will probably be sometime between 10pm and midnight my time, and that is not really my best hour for working into a foundation chain for filet, I am waiting for the morning after :lol)

Ready here and I have started!!! Woohoo Go Team Filet.

August 8th, 2008, 11:13 AM
Now that I am sure I can start I am off to start. I want to get a good start on the name filet before I go to my Dr. app. After that I promised my son a picinic and time at the park if its not raining. So maybe I will have to bring it with to work on while he plays. We will see.

Good luck I am trying to get as much done this morning as I can. I have plans this afternoon and evening. Then I work twelve hours Sat/ SUn each, off Mon then back to work Tue/Wed so I want to get a decent start today. We can do this!!!

August 8th, 2008, 07:10 PM
As we were allowed to start at the beginning of the OPening Ceremonies, I did my foundation chain and half of my base row (base row = 60 blocks)... then I went to bed :sleep
Now it is Saturday morning here and hopefully I can get going on it today (around bed shopping for my 2 yo cot/crib escapee, etc.) - I reckon I need about 5 rows per day to complete...

Good luck to all your team members (and especially Marikamum the Mad Filetier) Is that a word? LOL
I know I'm not a member of your team but will be watching all your great projects as they progress. I always find the first couple of rows the hardest in filet. You'll be past that in no time!
Good luck!

That's me - 121 A, 121B, 121C, 122...
The best part about filet (well.. for me anyway ) is how much you look forward to doing the solid bits.
And then after doing lots of solid, how grateful you are to go back to the open stuff.
i'm nearly into the first solid on /off bit.

Congrats and best of luck to this team and all the teams!
I started yesterday afternoon on my wall hanging. I finished 12 rows of 80. I worked on it for about 6 hours total (I took the afternoon off work).
I'm going to try and post the pic later.

:manyheartHi guys! Just checking in on Team Filet!
I am almost done with my first motif in a filet survivor shawl - lime green for Lymphoma. The shawl takes 5 motifs that are large ribbon (awareness ribbons) worked in between the filet.
I feel badly I am not using thread as you all prolly are - but this pattern (from our own RoseRed) is for ww yarn.
I am also beginning a pink one with crosses (same pattern different version she offers as well) for someone who just got diagnosed with a breast cancer recurrence. That one isn't for the games but it still will be a challenge to do 2 at once :cheer
Good luck with all your projects ladies!

If you click on the link above it works to bring up the picture. I have photobucket too. I received a tip for how to post thumbnails (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41) (but the thumbnail size of picture no longer displays, just the actual size of the picture. Therefore, you may wish to resize to the max of 480 x 360 or 360 x 480 first.)

Well, I am quite pleased with my progress yesterday. WIth no stress or outlandishly obsessive crocheting I managed to complete through Row 7 (and I nearly had Row 8 done when I spotted a mistake on Row 7 that needed ripping out - I had skipped a stitch so my 2ch mesh was straddling an edc post taking up the space of an open mesh... oops!) :c9
Go filitiers! (Thanks, Nancy...even if it is not a real word, I LIKE it! :D)

Ah well, back in forward motion again :crocheting. I think that may put paid to my idea of getting ahead of my allotted 10 rows by tonight. :sigh
Hopefully I will at least catch back up :P

You can fix it and keep right on moving. :cheer:cheer I am now behind my letter a day that I wanted to do but I'm sure I can make that up this week. After 3 days of competition, it's time to show where I'm up to.
I started like this:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/frogrockr/startofgames.jpg
Altin Basak thread. I'm really in love with this thread. It's silkier than Cebelia. The coloured spools are for the border.
I shouldn't write patterns that involve "Chain 321" :bang and then call for a :eek HORRIBLE :eek number of DCs. I swear that row was the worst :irk .
After a couple of :frog:frog:frog I'm up to:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/frogrockr/eeyorebackingfilet.jpg
Which mean that I have less than 100 rows to go.
And, because I'm digging the varied stitches in the Filet, some corner detail:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/frogrockr/acorner.jpg
Doing the popcorns adds just a nice texture in the corners.
So OK :cheer :cheer :cheer Team Filet!! Let's GO!:hook

Yes - that would be from Vicki! Mailed to me whilst still in Nhulunbuy.
I'm sure she must roll her eyes :ohdear when I call but she has helped me out so many times!
I just wish they had a decent olivey-green. I described what I wanted in terms of the need to be "military" and she said she would get her husband (ex RAAF) to approve or veto! The Old Gold and the Red should work.
The one thing I have noticed is that it's actually much easier to work with the ecru rather than all white. I wonder if there's a scientific reason for that but I'm finding it quite ... *something*
:rofl I hear you! I was slogging away at half that many!
It hurt. Trust me on this.
318 DCs.
One after the other. :loco
Promising myself mesh.

Apologies to my friends on other teams :yawn... too sleepy to post any more comments before it will be time to go pick up my daughter from ballet.

I made a deal with myself - I had to finish the letters tonight.
The trade-off was that tomorrow, I will redesign the Emu feathers in the soldier's hat.
Oh - and that I got to eat the peppermints that have been sitting on the coffee table!:hook
It's a cunning plan I have developed but I need to work out which DCs need to be Back/Front Loops so I can put the extended stitches into.
I think I will need two copies of the pattern. One with the filet marked and then one with the quadtr stitches overlaid.
So... I would like to show you where I'm leaving it overnight!

I'm not sure I'm doing photobucket right. The choices are Email/IM; Direct Link; HTML; and IMG Code. This is Email/IM. Is that the one y'all use?
Anyway, click above to see where I ended on day 4 (Monday). I usually have the most time to work on it in the evenings, but mornings are better for posting pix, cuz the internet connection is so much faster. I guess cuz everyone else is sleeping.
I can't wait to see all of this team's progress. The descriptions sound beautiful.
I like the slogan - Fileters do it in rows -- if you are taking suggestions.
Soon we will all have the "winner" logos, right????
When I estimated my time, I thought the games only went for ten days, so I am going to add a border if I get done in time. Instead of trying to attach it as I go, I am going to make it frame style and then sew both finished pieces together. Any thoughts? Has anyone else done this?
Thanks for reading, and I apologize for the lengthy post.

:woo :woo Go Marika and Mari Allen Go! :woo :woo
Mari Allen I generally use Direct link or you can use Shells pictorial **Photobucket GUIDE** to adding clickable thumbnails listed here on the ville. I personally cannot get the little thumbnail picture to work here without resizing first. I generally resize and save a copy of the item. Then copy the resize and paste on my post. Go back to the big picture in photobucket and click on the direct link. It will say copied. Go back to my post here highlight the picture and click on the world with a chain. A pop up box comes up and I paste the direct link info into the pop up box and hit OK. It makes a clickable thumbsize picture here, but will click to the larger picture in photobucket. It's a long process, but works for me.

Hi Team Filet Members ~ Well here I am one week in on both my Survivor Shawls - one for a friend just rediagnosed with Breast Cancer and the other as a donation to our booth in the upcoming Fall Relay for Life in my area! Of course the pink is symbolic of Breast Cancer and the Lime Green for lymphoma. I have taken the pink one with me on the go to work on, the green one has been at home for working on in the eves, I may switch that around so I can catch up on the green one ;)
As I said in my previous post - although I am not doing a "threadie" filet project, the yarn filet for these Survivor Shawls is a pattern I was given by RoseRed here at the 'Ville :)
Hope you ALL are plugging away at your filet - the projects sure are looking great on this thread!!! WooHoo for Team Filet!!!:cheer

Mariallen - looking good :D. I pretty much follow Donna's instructions and get the clickable thumbnails from photobucket. It is NOT one of the choices directly under the photo in your album. You must click on the little box beneath your photo, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the rightmost button "Generate IMG and HTML Codes". That will take you to a page with 5 codes in boxes under their headings. You want the one that says IMG clickable thumbnails for bulletin boards - recommended (or something like that). It is the middle one. Copy the code from there (making sure you get it from the first bracket to the last) and paste it into your email.
Carla J - I don't know why it doesn't work for you!?! :mdust :magic :mdust :2magic COsmo and I may need to work together on this one! Thanks for the support :D
frogrockr - That is looking great! Definitely readable :D It says "ANZAC DAY", right? :devil Can't wait to see the soldier take shape!

:hi Marika!!!
Thanks, the tangle is gone. It was at the end of the skein near the end of the bag project.
I hope your project is going well. Here's some extra :mdust back to keep the :frog away from your project. :)
I am slowly working on a different tote adding to the 4 hidden angel squares (my design) that I had already done. I think I will need about 30 squares if I want the whole top part of the tote to be the squares. I know I need 24 minimum. The same with the other tote that I will do with the chains in the corners. I'll have to see. It is my own design so I am free to do as a want.
All the projects here are looking great! Go Filetiers Go! :cheer :cheer

Hey Team, how would we feel about inviting Smooth Fox to join us? She is doing an afghan, but didn't sign up for teams before the athlete thread was closed and hasn't received any response on her requests to join a team? I made the half way mark on day 5 (like I said, I thought the games were only going to last ten days), so at that rate, I am on track for gold). I feel bad for misjudging the challenge, though.

Lovely work :U It is kind of funny, I grew up going on holidays to a little island in Massachusetts called Cuttyhunk. For most of my childhood and youth, the hotel/inn/nice restaurant on island was called the Allen House... your filet reminds me of them :manyheart... ahhhh, nostalgia :D.

Hi, sorry I'm late checking in with y'all. I was out of town but took my crochet with me and was able to start durring the opening of the Olympics. Sure was not easy to start then so just stuck to crocheting durring comercials. I'm home now and have finished the small square filiet except weaving in the ends and blocking. I've almost finished the small round one and will block both of them before moving onto the big round florabunda doily. I sure hope to start that one soon because it will take longer. Great job Manda! Nice pic too. It's very nice to meet you.
I always think there should be an aid station for crocheters and knitters at the airport. We could hand in our sacrificial hooks and pick up another one at our destination. Kind of like a lending library only you can keep the last one you get till you fly again. Or maybe we could develop a chain of "Rent-a-hook" stores located in airports. Use in the terminal and return in a bin at security. Then we go collect the bin and do it all over again!
Happy crocheting,

Hello Filetiers. I found this neat idea about if you have a hard time holding the steel crochet hooks, http://www.crafthands.com/services.html. I already tested it out with an old size 11 Killarney hook that was my MIL's. I didn't use the gel grips as shown, I used a fat click pen that was out of ink. And to make sure the needle was study the I put the spring that goes on the out side of the ink (thing) around the hook before attaching the inserting the hook in the body of the pen and the bottom of the pen on to hold the hook in place. It actually works! So cool. (oops showing my age)
I wonder if the hook is in the dryed up inks place, if it would go thru the TSA? Especially since they have those new fancy metalic coated pens?
Now if there could be a fix for the eyes when looking through one of those magnifyers that go around your neck and make one sea sick from the movement of ones hands or for being slightly out of focus.... without Dramamine...

Marika~It is looking wonderful! very pretty! I think part of the challenge is to resist that urge to work on something else..:) I know your pain though. :lol
I am up to date on my filet. I have the last letter of the name and then to figure out the boarder. I am kinda nervious about it. I'm not sure why but I am. I think it looks complicated but I just need to remember to follow the directions step by step.

I want to switch at the end of a row, but I don't want too much left over... I'm not sure what I would be able to do with that quantity of thread...)

So the house is getting thrash cleaned as well with Mt Laundry being scaled and conquered - LOL
And I noticed on my calendar that one of my godson's bdays is Sat - I can't go so I have to give his present to his Mom on Thurs - which of course is a crocheted edged fleece panel - Yikes - so I made one start to finish last eve till the wee hours of the morn!
So my lime green filet survivor ribbon shawl is in good shape the 4th out of 5 ribbon motif's is in progress, the pink is coming good as well but I don't know if it will get finished - but the lime green one was my original goal set.

Death on a hook?
or to be technical, :think, let's see...
a quintuple-long front loop octuple-treble shell in Australian terms or a quintuple-long front loop heptuple-treble shell in American terms?
Insanity?
hopefully also pretty and/or striking and certainly we'll hope plume-like...

shuttlebuggy~way to go!!! You have been busy!
I have four and a half rounds left on my boarder. I am starting to doubt that I will finish as it seems to take me so long to do such a simple boarder but I will keep trying. I have the rest of today off and all of tomarrow. So I will be crocheting inbetween loads of laundry. :)
Don't give up you can do it. You go girl

Thanks for asking Carla, sadly, no... of course, I've been :sleeping since posting that :lol so I guess that is not surprising. I still need to excavate the couch and check in the car (I carry the project in my bag in a ziploc bag - I discovered the missing hook while planning on showing off to my friend at a school where I was subbing... luckily I am there again today, so I can check if it rolled somewhere in the staff room if all else fails :)...)
I won't have any time to :crocheting today until my daughter's swim lesson at 4.30 pm anyway...
GO TEAM FILET!
Go, Shuttlebuggy - I know what you mean about edging - for the final project in the Beginning FIlet class, I handled the filet portion of the doily quite handily, but the ^$*#&^@$^ edging kept tripping me up - it probably took me as long or longer to work out the edging as the whole filet portion of the doily! But... you can DO it!!!
Sounds great, jeanut!
GO, TEAM, GO!! :cheer

Today I'll block the other one and more good news I only have the edging to finish the big one. I almost went into panic attack last night I just did have enough thread to finish the main part of the doily and had to dig through my stash to find more. I found some that matched even though it's a dif brand it will work

Okay as promised pics of the completed filet Survivor Ribbon Shawl (pattern by our own RoseRed:hug)
This lime green one is the 5th of my long term goal of making 10 in time for the Relay for Life in October. We sell them or raffle them and all the proceeds to the American Cancer Society's Research for Cancer Cures and Treatment.
So without further adieu - here it is! I am now racing to finish a pink one for a friend of mine who has a recurrence of bc - but not to sure I can do that one extra - we'll see - my hook is still ready to churn up some yarn into a crochet storm! :hurricane:hurricane:hurricane:hurricane
