I signed up to do 2 lapghans. One will be a RR, the other will be SmoothFox's Heart of a Child square. Question for you lovely people. The squares I've started are kinda a wedgewood blue and cream. What do you suggest to go with it? I'm thinking maybe red or a pink. I have one square that's yellow and cream. But while I like how it looks, I think it blends a little too much. Thoughts?

what is the smoothfox's square?
I was a tester for her Heart of a Child square and I love it! It takes me roughly an hour to do one, it's about 8". Super cute and super easy! She has it listed on her Etsy page, so it might be worth buying.
Here's one of the squares (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=82010) I did and here's (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=82037) another. I got one done tonight while waiting on my friend before DBF and I gave up and headed to dinner. I'm going to need to stop by Joann's tomorrow and pick up some red I think. I think I'm going with a nice bright red to go w/ the kinda wedgewood blue. I thought about starting my RR tonight, but that'll probably be tomorrow night while working. I'm thinking 2 strands with a larger hook for that one.

Morning everyone! I'm getting a late start getting up this morning, guess I was really tired. I need to run to the bank and get a copy of a cancelled check for an issue I'm dealing with, then it's over to Joann's :cheer ! The bank is in the parking lot of the strip mall Joann's is in. Is that convienant or what? :lol
Sissie, I'm going to be using Aggie May's Round Ripple pattern. I love it, it's so easy to do. I did my first one for a baby blanket and it took me just over a week to do. This one I plan on doing using 2 or 3 strands held together and I'm hoping it'll take just as long. As for Donna's square, I highly recommend it. It's so easy I have the pattern memorized! And I actually managed to make another one before going to bed last night.
Happy :crocheting everyone! :cheer

Way to go Joyce! I'm gonna have to head over to HYH and see it again.
I headed to Joann's today and picked up 2 RHSS Burgandy to go with the blue for my squares. I also had to pick up another Caron pounder in Cream and find something to go with the Poppy Yellow I have for the RR. I decided on RHSS Cornmeal. So I got one red square done today. Then I started the RR tonight and I love how it's looking so far! I have Caron SS in Off White first, and painted in the Cornmeal. 9 rounds done on that! :cheer

HYH is Happy Yellow House. It's run by Cara - username here is Misa. She's taken a lot of quilt designs and made them into afghans with most using saltines - 2 round grannies. I try to stay away from her site, there's too many on there that I want to do and I have wayyyy too much on my plate right now. :lol

It's peach and I think it's a really pretty and easy pattern but boy do you have to watch the end stitches, it's been so easy for me to mess up that I have had to frog again last night :blush so I'm being very careful this morning:eek. I'm still not sure if I want to do a regular ripple or a round ripple for the second one. I bought the yarn to do a regular ripple in pale green but I'm just not sure yet. Like Sissie, I'm only working on one at a time.
Ok Ladies, that's it for now back to work:crocheting.

Cool I am using Peach in mine also!! and it is pretty!!

:lol
I'm going to tell DBF I want to go to the beach today. I'm going to take Flat Brooke with and take some pictures of her there. And maybe sometime this week we'll head up to Downtown Disney and get some pictures of her there. We haven't been to the beach yet this year. So it really does seem like a good idea today. Have fun everyone!
oh ok I know that site. my sister Shaylen has done quit a few of her patterns
I so miss going to Daytona Beach:(:( I use to go every Aug with my sisters family and sense we have move up here to WV I have not been:(
hope you got to go and had a great day

HYH is Happy Yellow House. There's a CAL dedicated to these crochet quilt patterns. Cara, a member here, has some gorgeous patterns there. Here's the Windwalker (http://www.happyyellowhouse.com/htm/windwalker.html).
I'm doing mine in Claret, Rose and Off White

That is so pretty! can't wait to see a picture:clap
Guess how many squares I got done on the way to and from the beach? C'mon, take a guess! Anyone? Ok. I'll tell you. None! Yeah, because it helps to have a hook to crochet with. I brought my scissors and the yarn. But no hook. Oops.
:rofl I always have a hook in my purse plus a tote bag that I kep in the truck for anytime I leave this house :lol

We went to St. Pete Beach. And even though I used sunblock, I'm still oddly suburned. There's light patches in the burnt patches. It's strange. But thankfully just the back of my calves and my shoulders.
I've got 15 rounds of the RR done so far! I actually started on the last paint (planned last paint :lol), so it's cornmeal and poppy yellow. And I did a square tonight. So I have 2 of the 12ish red I need to do done! I'm not sure where I am with the blue, I'll have to see.

I got the 9 scrap grannies sewn together & a round started around them. Also did 1 round on the rr. I am afraid I might run out of yarn. I got 4 rows to go before I add the last points. I will have to take pictures soon. I also designed a square last night (hahahaha Im a doofus). And that Vannas Choice yarn feels nice but is so not worth the money! One 12" out of a skein. That is a crime to me. Someone I admire greatly will benefit from the 2 skeins I bought though. I also plan on working on sewing the boys blankets together that I got from cville.

Sissie, thanks for asking about my vacation. Girlfriend and I went to the World's Longest Yard Sale along route 127. It runs from the OH-MI border to somewhere in AL. We were in the Greeenville area for a day and spent another day along the Lincoln Highway/Buyway Sale, which happened to run the same week. I never saw any crochet hooks for sale, but did pick up a couple unusual sets of knitting needles. We had great weather, but after two days of searching for bargains, we were burned out and very happy to be home again.
Thanks again to Tammy for the avatar!

I am going to frog the pattern. Unless you want to test it & give me ideas how to make it not ripple like it does. Maybe it is just the yarn. Vannas yarn is nice but to expensive to warrant making a whole blanket. And I did have enough but the boys grew so I had to make them bigger. I need 10 more am gunna make them after the games.

As soon as I stop avoiding my photo program :lol I'm cheap. I don't want to go buy a decent program. So I use the HP Image thing that came with my computer. And it's tempermental. Everytime I try to open it, I keep getting a pop up stating it can't load HPProduct Assistant :think
So my computer at work got moved yesterday. And apparently as a by product it's now named something different. And I have no clue what, 'cause I'm working at home and the last thing I want to do is actually put real clothes on and go into work. So I'm waiting on the help desk to get that info for me. Evening ladies, have you missed me? :)) sorry I have not been here the last couple of days but my Fibro is really messing with my head again:(
anyway I have my squares finished now for the first lapghan! all I have to do is sew it together and I am still not sure if I like it or not:think very confusing to me this one is!
I had anoth pattern picked out for my second one but think I better go with one that is in my head as I am running behind alittle bit here it looks like! what do we have till sunday I think?
Love that
Just stopped in to report that I finished the first block of the ghan tonight. I am more and more optimistic.

I'm done with the rr! I was trying a rsc for the border but it looked nappy. So I added tassels to the points. The cats liked to help. Glad you were able to get the cats to help you with it :rofl it sure did turn out pretty!!
5 more squares to go! I have 3 red and 2 blue! :cheer:cheerGO GIRL GO:cheer:cheer
I have all my squares done and sewed together. Just need to put enough border on to make it about 3'x4'. I'd better pick up the pace since it's already Friday and I have to finish this one and make a second one to earn my medal. :yes sounds like me :))

Pat and Sissie, I highly recommend a RR with a larger hook. They go by much faster :D
Sissie, I didn't know you had Fibro. I hope you're doing well overall. I've heard it's not a fun one to have, not that any of them are. I told DBF tonight I have a feeling my neurologist may decide I need an MRI after my visit with him next month :( I don't mind them so much, it's the patient cost I hate.
I don't know if you do any exercising. I LOVE yoga. It definitely helps keep my muscles stretched, especially on days they've tightened up again. My quarterly MS magazine, Momentum, had an article/review in it today on the book "Yoga and Multiple Sclerosis". It can probably help with other issues, it covers poses adapted for wheelchair uses, done on a chair and other methods of adaptations.

Prism, I'm definitely doing the RR with a large hook. My problem is I wonder what it will look like in all one color:worried. I guess I'll find out. If it doesn't I guess I'll add another color as I go. I was thinking of just doing the center different. I have to think about this for a little but just a little since I'm behind.

Ohh it looks so pretty!
I'm on the home stretch! I'm working on my border for the second lapghan as I type! And that's after a minor issue :D I didn't think I had enough of the blue to do a round of border. I thought I remembered that it was Red Heart, so I checked and they had the blue I thought it was still in existance. So I headed to Joann's and they not only didn't have the Red Heart in the blue, but nothing that matched. So over to Michael's we went. No Red Heart, BUT, I did find a Bernat Worsted in Royal Blue that is soooo close to being an exact match. And it's not that the two shades of blue will be together, so it doesn't matter that it doesn't match.

Announcer: Ladies and Gentleman, crocheters and supporters of all ages! We have a new Gold Medal winner! Introducing....PRISZM :cheer Priszm, tell us, how long did it take you to complete your challenge:
Priszm: Well, Pat, I managed to amaze even myself this time! I managed to complete one round ripple and one lapghan made up of squares in exactly one week! I actually had 7 of the 24 squares needed for the lapghan completed going into the games, and I was able to make the remaining 17, join them and put on a border in record time! I started the Saturday after the games and finished last night at about 11:15 EST. :hook
Announcer: I heard you'd had some supply problems? Is that true?
Priszm: Sadly yes! I decided at the last minute to join the games and signed up Thursday evening. I knew what I wanted to do for the RR, but I wanted a third color for it and I wasn't quite content with the colors I had on hand to go with the blue for the lapghan squares. So I had to make a mad dash to Joann's on Saturday to stock up on supplies and I was very grateful to find colors and yarns that fit in with my vision. Not only that, but I knew I wouldn't have enough of the blue to do a complete round of the border. This skein I had gotten from someone off of Craigslist, and was part of a bunch of other yarn brands that haven't been in existance for years and years. Again, I was very lucky to find an almost perfect match to what I was using!
Announcer: Now that you're finished, what's next for you?
Priszm: I need to finish the pink ribbon afghan I designed, someone won the bidding on that and I hope to have it to her within a month. I also want to have more squares done and sent to Sissie by October. I'm thinking of at least one other RR for her as well. I still have plenty of the yellow, red and blue from my games projects which should make a great RR. And after all of that, I have hotpads to complete for Christmas gifts. And, from the Every Happy House needs CAL, someone had to point out Irish Chain quilts and now I really really wanna make some of those with saltines. I'll definitely be a busy :crocheting er. But what a good thing to be :D

Well, I'm afraid at this point I do not see gold in my future. I have frogged the entire RR for the 3rd time. First time it was coming out all lumpy, bumpy and I hated it so I frogged it. Then this morning I used the N hook and the holes are coming out way to big so I frogged it again and the last time it just wasn't coming out. So I have to start the 2nd ghan tonight and keep my fingers crossed it works out. I've done several round ripples and never had all the problems. I'm going to use the smaller hook and hopefully it will work out.
Congratulations to you ladies.

As promised, here's a pick of my lapghan so far. I started on a third block tonight. It takes me 1/2 hour to put together one strip of each block, which means each block takes four hours (still thinking I can complete the challenge)

It is one from those free leaflets they out by the yarn. It is a lap throw that is supposed to use only 16 oz of yarn. My mom used 21 oz to make it. I use scraps a lot because when I was growing up you got yarn where you could & used what you had. We did not have money for blankets that we needed (we did not have gas most of my childhood years once we left San Diego). SO when my mom had extra money she would walk to local yard sales & thrift stores & get all the yarn she could. Anyhow enough with my sob story lol.

I don't think it is a sob story. I think it is a great memory of how to be frugal with things and use them. We need some more of that with gas prices the way they are. I appreciate you sharing.
As a side note my grandmother used thread mostly because that was the cheapest and you could get the most out of a 500 yard big ball by coats and clark. She would especially look for seconds to get them cheaper...
