Official registration for the Crochet Games of Ancient Greece closed at 10 PM Eastern time on Thursday, August 7. However, we're having so much fun here that we don't want to leave anyone out.

If you changed your selected crochet challenge or learned about the games after the registration deadline had passed, this thread is for you! You can still work on a challenge of your choice :crocheting for the duration of the Crochet Games and post here to support and encourage each other along the way. :cheer

I'm very sorry, but unofficial participants are not eligible for medal status or to participate in the prize drawing, but other than that, you can participate in any threads you wish here in the Crochet Games of Ancient Greece! Drop in, check out what others are doing, leave notes of encouragement!

EDITED TO ADD: I'm very sorry, but we are unable to add a special prize category for unofficial participants in the games. We aren't trying to be mean or spoil anyone's fun, but we have to follow the rules that were publicized before this contest began. Adding another prize category could cause legal issues. Please don't ask us to expose this site to that type of risk.

If it's allright with Amy I'd like to donate 3 patterns (1 winner/pattern per unofficial medal) for prizes for the unofficial partcipants that way they get something for their hardwork too. The pattern will be winners choice.

If this is allright than cool, if not then just let me know and I'll delete this message.

Thanks

Julee

Hi all can I join this group as well?

Iam in the crochet games making 12 critters from Grourmet crochet, but also trying to complete my babette balnket as an unoffical project.

I wanted to do this, but wasn't sure if you could do WIP's for the games so chose the critters, then added the babette blanket after, but was too late.

I had 32 more squares left to make, sew up all squares, do border and weave in ends.

So far I have managed to complete all the squares, sew them all together and have started on the border.

Still working on the critters as well.

Super! I was feeling left out! I think the purple scarf I just started. With everything else on my plate, that WILL be a challenge.

Hi! This is wonderful! :cheer I wanted to join but found it to late so now I get to play anyway! I just (tonight) started the alphabet in granny squares for my two year old son so I think my challenge will be to complete A - E which will absolutely be a challenge since I work full time on overnights :eek and have five (wonderful) kids to take care of on my time off.

Thanks for this great idea!

I hope everyone gets lots done on your project. I'm thinking on one more thing to throw in for the prize, I'll let everyone know what it is when this gets officially okayed (the prize thing).

Hi Everybody! I am also officially Unofficial after changing my project too! I just didn't like the way the first pattern was written and I wasn't in the mood to try and work it out in my head. We have a new puppy (14 week old Alaskan Malamute!) and he's keeping me very busy...doesn't give me much time to sit and crochet or anything else! I am frustrated because I can't seem to get a answer from anyone who knows anything. Everyone just says go ahead and join their team. How do I join their team??????????????? I keep posting under Team Afghan because that's what I'm making but it still doesn't make sense where the sign up roster was or is to be on a team.

Thats beautiful hon.............. lovely color.. what stitch is that?
It's off of the Caron Simply Soft wrapper; they are calling it a "basket" stitch. It's pretty much just (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in same stitch, then sc in the middle dc of the next motif, then the stitch again. It's the first patterned stitch scarf I've made, so it is a little challenging. And of course, the fact that I have several other WIPs with deadlines makes it even more challenging! :lol
MissRach, that is pretty, love that colour. :yes
Me too! *sigh* And I want to keep it so badly, but no, it is intended for a gift. As soon as I have worked through my stash, you bet I'm gonna make myself one! :hook

Ok, my original challenge was going to be to make a 12 Square Ghan (12- 12"). Then I decided that's to much (which it really is for me at this time) so I decided to try for a box of crocheted items for a craft fair, well, no big progress on that. I think I have it a quarter of the way full, so I think I'm just gonna have to go for half full. We're really busy here getting ready for my sisters graduation party (a little late but hey. It will be kinda fun though) so it's kinda hard to keep focused. Lots to get done.

Anywho!! You all can do it!! Great job!!

I donated a Haekelbeutel bag that can be seen in the original prizes thread.

Unfortunately since Arizona doesn't observe daylight savings--we NEVER change our clocks here--I can never (ever) keep track of the difference between our time and EST since it changes different arts of the year and so it was August 7 to me when I changed my challenge to something more difficult for me--and it was apparently August 8 already EST and I didn't know so I'm out.

But the item is still donated of course. Since I'm out though honestly I'm feeling no pressure at all to finish the other half of what I started out competing with. I hope everyone here is having an awesome time. :)

And it IS finished! I am waiting for my mom to put the picture on the computer. *fidgets impatiently* :lol It ended up being about 54.5" long and 5.25" wide. And sooo pretty and snuggly.

And, since I have only a week until I need to have my other scarf done, I will try to finish IT in the remaining time. It is about 1/2 done.

I get to join you guys because I changed my pattern after the deadline. I specified a pattern for my project that was my downfall. Well, I am making a baby set with an afghan, the sweater is done and now I have to do the booties and the blanket is well on it's way to being done. Tracy has done good work I look forward to seeing everyones projects.

I guess I better get a move on for my project, I've only got the head done for my bagdelena bear... I have the body and skirt left to do thankfully, so if my boys take a nap today I might get it done... otherwise I'll be crocheting like mad Saturday in the truck while we help my mom move. Thankfully she lives 2 hours away, so we have to drive there and back, so I could have up to 4 hours right there, as long as I don't have to drive.

Just want to stop by and give Julee at quick :cheerYou go Girl!! :cheersince we have the same project of making a box of stuff to sell. I may not make the medal, but I am plugging away 2 1/2 hats completed last night. I'm not sure how full my box is, because I won't let myself put things in it until they are totally completed, and I need to work in a bunch of ends soon.

I'm not trying to stress anyone out. Someone just pointed out the notification bar for the time for the end of the games:
"The end is near for the 2008 Crochet Games of Ancient Greece!
The closing ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 8 AM Eastern time on August 24.
Official time to stop work on your crochet challenge is 11 AM Eastern time on August 24."

I didn't register for the games as I knew I would be very busy at work this month and I couldn't seem to seldom on one project from the many floating around in my head. However I'm very happy to report that I finished the 2nd of 2 personal 2008 crochet games projects last night while watching the men's high dive finals. :yay

Starting a personal 2008 games challenge is partially due to the fact that my first ever Knit Picks order arrived a day before the Beijing games started. I loved all the yarns I had ordered and just had to do something with them! :yes

My first event was a sprint. On the morning of the 9th I started a scarf with the Twist yarn I had ordered in Spumoni (see http://www.knitpicks.com/Twist%20Yarn_YD5420120.html). I was able to complete a 5.5" wide scarf in 2 days using a P hook in a trellis pattern using double crochet and chain stitches. I've already worn it twice since I finished it!

However I had immediately fallen in love with the Crayon Boucle Yarn I had ordered. You can see this 100% Pima cotton yarn at http://www.knitpicks.com/Crayon%20Boucle%20Yarn_YD5420121.html. I ordered the Kingfisher color (this time - I'm still eying the Beach Glass, Azure, and Cashew colors). Anyway I kept picking up the yarn and feeling it. On Tuesday the 12th I picked it up while watching the games and started a swatch and just didn't stop. :hook

Shortly after I started this 2nd event (a wrap) I decided I should try to do as much as I could during the span of the games. My best friend (a knitter) found it very humorous how I would crochet while listening to back stories, etc. and sometimes would even crochet between events while listening to commentary. :)

The wrap I completed is a 21" x 72" rectangular wrap (half-double crochet using an I hook) which has turned out very nice and soft and drapy. :c9

I will definitely be making other projects using this yarn! Sorry I don't have a picture right now. I sure do need to find that camera I misplaced somewhere in my apartment. Hmm ... perhaps it's hiding under my yarn stash!

Ok, I'm done. I did a whole box of crochet stuff. Not a big box, just one I had around. I'll get a pic whenever photobucket starts working for me.

Stayed up late last night, sitting out in my tent with crochet hook in hand and the portable dvd player going. Went to bed a little earlier than I wanted though. Got a little cold out. Luckily I had 2 quilts that were doubled and 3 other blankets covering me up so as soon as I got in bed I was like toasty warm and "Dreams of yarn and crochet hooks danced in my head".
Anywho, I'm claiming an unofficial official GOLD!!

I almost finish my bagdelna bear, I just noticed I'm missing part of the pattern, I was wondering why it didn't quite look like what was in the picture.
I was claiming I completed it, but now that I sit and compare my bear to the one in the picture I'm not quite done. I'll have to look around for the rest of the pattern. Darn!
I'm not sure how I medal now... I did everything I had for the pattern, and with the page that I'm missing, I'm not sure how much I haven't done.

I got the head, ears, muzzle body and skirt done, so that's most of it, I just noticed I'm missing the arms... for some reason it never occurred to me that she needed arms.
I did the ruffles, but I didn't like the look of them so I tore those out, anyway I'll claim either silver or bronze... I'm not sure which it should be. I'll leave that up to the judges.

I will post a pic when hubby gets home with the camera, he's gone out kayaking on the rivers again... I just hope this time he doesn't use up all the battery pack taking pictures out on the water (he did last time).
Here's where you can see what I got done:

I finished my babette blanket, as far as the games go, it's not really big enough so Iam gonna to frog the border and add some more sqaures to the bottom so that I can snuggle under it watching TV.

Will take some photo's and post later, off to bed now as worked last night.

Everyone did great and we all got things done that we never thought possible.:cheer

I did not finish my project. I had the booties to do and the blanket to finish. I was almost done with the blanket. I got sick friday evening and ended up at ER on saturday night. I finally got some sleep on sunday. It was a sinus infection that gave me a migraine. So no crocheting got done, just barely surviving got done, lol. Kids wanted dinner, I managed that then back to bed for two whole days just about. Everyone's pictures look great, everyone did a great job. LOL at the arms, I bet the bear was cute sans arms or not. I hope you find the pattern. ZSo is too late toclaim honerable mention?
