OK Ladies I finally finished by WIPS and now I have yet another bug to scratch. I have tons of different yarn weights so it doesn't have to be specific to a certain type of yarn. I am looking for an easy jacket or coat or sweater. I have made ponchos, but never something like a jacket or with sleeves. So something easy would be great, but I don't know where to start. I am currently going through the loads of patterns at CPC, but can't find something that just pops out at me (an doesn't scare me!!!!)

Did you see the Sweet Tee CAL (via Crochet Pattern Central)? That one can easily be turned into a sweater and adapts for every body. It is more of a guideline than a specific "Pattern", but that is because it is so adaptable. It's really very easy, and works with any kind of thread or yarn or whatever you want. I would have had two tees by now, but I ran out of my cotton leftovers (dyelotted of course) before I had enough length. FIGURES. Now I'm using the same basic instructions to make DS and DD their annual sweaters. After that I make a winter sweater for me. I hope.
It can be almost as fitted as you want...changing hook sizes is what they use to add shaping to the design.
If it's a pattern that intrigues you, and you need a bit of help with it, PM me. :)

Many clothes patterns work in panels. You do each piece then sew it up. As long as you have the skill to work what's in the pieces and the patience for such a large project, you can make pretty much whatever strikes your fancy. If you honestly don't think you can handle the sleeve business, you could seek these kinds of patterns. (I know pattern books like them.) I did one—a button-up fancy sweater—as my second project after I learned to knit.

But why not try tackling the monster with a baby sweater? It'll give you a feel for working with the sleeves that worry you so. Here's an easy-looking pattern I found through CPC: http://debscrafts55.blogspot.com/2008/05/baby-bumpy-sweater.html.

A tip for making large chains that you need to join like in that pattern: I find that it works best if I grab the yarn to make a chain by grabbing the yarn from below (putting the hook in front of the yarn, then grabbing in a wrap-around—yarn going behind and over hook—rather than merely grabbing the yarn with the hook behind the yarn. Sorry if that didn't make sense; it's hard to verbally explain.

Don't forget to make a guage swatch! ;)

I am going to make a wearable too that will be a challenge but at the same time looks easy too. It has granny squares and ribbing to make it fitted. Check out this website from one of our members. I love this jacket!! http://******************** :c9
