I just got a new Crochet book (Jan Eaton's 200 Crochet Blocks) and I found part of a pattern I don't understand.

The stitch is defined as follows:

dc2tog = work 2 double crochet stitches together to make cluster

I'm not sure I'm grasping what they want. In the pattern, it says things like "dc2tog inserting hook into same sp for first leg and into next ch 7 sp for second leg." Can someone explain? Thanks!

dc2tog means double crochet two together (in same space).

This is how I understand it

yo insert hook in stitch yo pull up a loop, yo pull through 2 loops, yo insert hook in same stitch yo and pull up a loop yo pull through 2 loops yo pull though 3 loops

Yep, Mandy is right in her description of dc2tog. (It's not just two dc in the same space.)
